  1. Re: Susano's Song-Based DC NPCs Rereading Running Gun just made me realize it's essentially a song about the characters Disads. Neat.
  2. Re: Slow Space Elevator Why do I smell a reality TV show...
  3. Re: Susano's Song-Based DC NPCs I based a ton of NPC's off various Marty Robbins ballads once upon a time. They practically write themselves. Big Iron -Marty Robbins To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day Hardly spoke to folks around him didn't have too much to say No one dared to ask his business no one dared to make a slip For the stranger there amongst them had a big iron on his hip Big iron on his hip It was early in the morning when he rode into the town He came riding from the south side slowly lookin' all around He's an outlaw loose and running came the whisper from each lip And he's here to do some business with the big iron on his hip Big iron on his hip In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead He was vicious and a killer though a youth of twenty four And the notches on his pistol numbered one an nineteen more One and nineteen more Now the stranger started talking made it plain to folks around Was an Arizona ranger wouldn't be too long in town He came here to take an outlaw back alive or maybe dead And he said it didn't matter he was after Texas Red After Texas Red Wasn't long before the story was relayed to Texas Red But the outlaw didn't worry men that tried before were dead Twenty men had tried to take twenty men had made a slip Twenty one would be the ranger with the big iron on his hip Big iron on his hip The morning passed so quickly it was time for them to meet It was twenty past eleven when they walked out in the street Folks were watching from their windows every-body held their breath They knew this handsome ranger was about to meet his death About to meet his death There was forty feet between them when they stopped to make their play And the swiftness of the ranger is still talked about to-day Texas Red had not cleared leather when a bullet fairly ripped And the rangers aim was deadly with the big iron on his hip Big iron on his hip It was over in a moment and the folks had gathered round There before them lay the body of the outlaw on the ground Oh he might have gone on living but he made one fatal slip When he tried to match the ranger with the big iron on his hip Big iron on his hip Big iron Big iron When he tried to match the ranger with the big iron on his hip
  4. Re: Problem with Drain/Suppress. Explain please. You can also use Lingering Effect for this, I think... It's in FH.
  5. Re: Slow Space Elevator I was thinking about coffin ships, but more of the William Gibson nature rather than the Irish Migration. But yeah. Sleep in shifts, everyone has their own internet connection, and good interior design and folk would endure without much fuss.
  6. Re: Slow Space Elevator Recent material and power advances un-bonkered the idea. For the longest time the big hangup was the tether.... It needs to be strong enough to handle the workload while still being low mass enough not to act like a giant oribital velocity bullwhip if the tether was broken.

  9. Re: And the old shall swallow the new... Glowstick juice Nope, as in "You may be eaten by a Grue!", a Zork reference from the days of text based CRPG yore (link) Although I'd agree that there's far to little Groo love on here. Grue Repellant: Light Groo Attractant: Cheese dip
  10. Re: And the old shall swallow the new... Does this mean a Fantasy Hero: Adventure book on the horizon? Watch out for the dragons! (Or were they Drakes...they sure LOOKED like ducks...)
  11. Re: What are your HERO stats like? Yeah, these pop up every once in a while. They can be fun, but expect some long rambling arguments about what folk use as their benchmarks. Perhaps this time I'll get off my duff and finally put my awesomeness into character form
  12. Re: Triggered Weapon Takeaway Back to the original post here... Yeah, this works as one build option for this move (Naked Trigger for Takeaway), and yes, you costed it wrong. UMA has special rules for working out the cost of Advantaging Martial Maneuvers by determining sort of a "virtual AP" value for any given maneuver.
  13. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I just finished "A Lick of Frost" by Laurell K. Hamilton. OK, I admit it... her "Mary Sue the Faerie Princess" books are a guilty pleasure of mine. They remind me of the kinds of parties I used to throw back in the day, and a subculture I'm trying to rebuild. So sue me... *Ahem* Anyway... Good Book. Solid story, some action. The Faerie Porn content is down about 85%. Apparently Madame Hamilton is settling into her new lifestyle and is getting back around to little things like plots in her writing. I was pleasantly surprised, and am looking forward to the next book. I like the cast of characters she's assembled. What can I say? Cromm Cruiach as a fan of Film Noir tickles my fancy.
  14. Re: Musings on Random Musings Not far off my approach. They pretty much leave me alone these days. "Hi, I'm an Olamh of the Celtic Reconstructionist Faith, personally a Pantheiestic Scientific Gaian, an active member of the Interfaith Pagan Alliance, and yes, I've read your holy books. Count yourself lucky... right now I haven't the time to de-construct your myth cycles for you. Good luck in your path, it's not an easy one." Assuming of course I'm not in the mood for a debate. I once spent every day at work, 40 hours a week, partnered to an evangellical Biblical Literalist Four-Square Baptist. I shook his faith. I really do try and give them a chance to run...
  15. Re: New Disadvantage Idea: Phobia I almost feel ashamed to post this.... This kinda mechanic works well for a Fetish too... Heh... I just had an image of some Captain Courageous who goes all wonky whenever he encounters a villainess in thigh high boots....
  16. Re: Time Stop (its harder than it sounds) That was more or less the same conclusion we came to (i.e. that segmented movement represented the de facto "physics engine" for the system, which gives the universe an effective SPD of 12.). One possible way to easy the pain a reluctant GM might be feeling* would be to add the Trans-dimensional advantage to the Adjustment power used defined as Effects the "The Fourth Dimension", aka Duration aka Time. *"The night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting. That's pride f*cking with you. F*ck pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps." Marcellus Wallace, -Pulp Fiction
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Musings What a weird week. Opened the big Winter show, A Christmas Carol, natch, the same day one of our eldest cats died. We knew it was coming, as she was 18 years old, but her absence is felt. Bye Furball. Just sort of imploded with a cold over the weekend and slept a lot. Then found out one of my coworkers killed himself. He was a good kid. He'll be missed. I'm probably not going to his services. I suspect my distaste for hypocrisies would intrude on the families grieving needs, so I'm respectfully staying away. I can make my peace with him in private. It's been a weird week.
  18. Re: Time Stop (its harder than it sounds) Yeah, I tried to come up with something similar in 4th ed Champions for a friend who liked the power from "The Girl, The Gold Watch, and Everything" I was able to squeak an approximation together using a suite of various powers starting with enough AOE SPD Suppress to cancel out everyones ability to move and built up from there, but the power suite still took the lions share of a 400 point character and wasn't QUITE right. It's a bit easier now with Naked Advantages and Megascale, but still.... wicked evil high power ability.
  19. Re: BODY into STUN One semi common house rule I've seen and considered applying for this is simply to adopt a "Bruising" rule where a target takes 1 Body, passing all defenses (except possibly Damage Reduction), for every X Stun inflicted in a single attack, with X usually being 20, 25, or a value based on a Primary Stat... often CON, BODY, or EGO. Allows Bricks to do minor body damage to each other in slugging matches, and give a good simulation of the impact trauma passing through armor effect you get from soft body armor. Edit: I suppose this could also be used in conjunction with the Real Armor limit, or bought as a Minor Side Effect on the Defensive power construct.
  20. Re: Mountains of Madness?!? Maybe it's Ymir's scalp....
  21. Re: Musings on Random Musings While on one hand I totally agree with you, on the other I'm also the polar opposite. In general, by the time I'm dating someone I've become friends with them. If I live with them for years, that deepens things. If we break up.... We still have most of the "friend" program running in the background. Sometimes it resurfaces once the dust settles down. Sometimes not. It's never a thing to push, however. I'm still not speaking to my most recent ex. We've tried. I can't cope, and she usually ends up hostile. my prior before her, however, is still a very good friend. Her husband is one of the guys I'd call in the event of a Zombie outbreak, her son calls me Uncle. She keeps trying to find loose women to hook me up with So.... It depends. Mostly on how sour things went before the end.
  22. Re: Magic System You're most welcome, but dude... seriously consider taking KS up on his offer. He's one of the guru's, m'man. He groks the system at machine language level. If I was closer I'd be down there like a shot.
