  1. Re: Adrenal Control: Succor ? Or Aid ? Or Something Else ? Whereas I'm just the opposite. I had a very similar powerset for my Flagsuit character, but then again I like the uncertainty. In any case depending on build you can think of it as a boost equal to the maximum roll, with a bit of a run up time to get it up to full strength For that matter my Gadgeteer/Martial Artist has a lot of similar boosting powers through various combat serums. yeah, I'd play with it.
  2. Re: Sex and the Single Superhuman Brilliant!
  3. Re: Really quite crazy campaign idea.... Also check out some of the old Dreadstar & Starslayer graphic novels. A lost of the First titles had the whole superheroic multiversal theme going.
  4. Re: EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle Could'a swore the MONDOs out'ta Midville picked up one of these things a few years back...
  5. Re: A further question on Invisibilty It occurred to me that a vague thermal presence could be reflected as the special effect for a Fringe as well.
  6. Re: Mountains of Madness?!? Totally wicked cool
  7. Re: A further question on Invisibilty You know, it just occurred to me that IR touch is basically an Everyman sense. What they said. If you want to build your ghosts so they show up to IR vision, go ala carte with your Sight Invisibility instead of buying it for the Full Sight Group. Or take a small-to-insignificant limitation to reflect the flaw in the invisibility.
  8. Re: Have you ever built a powered armor character... my main PA character had enhanced stats outside of his armor as well as a couple of minor powers all related to his cybernetics. Basically this same idea, but he was wired rather than vatgrown. Basically he was a Street level Martial Artist without the armor and a fairly high powered flying weapons platform demi-brick in it (like so many PA characters)
  9. Re: Sword Oriented Martial Art Yep, can't study Ren period military history without hitting all those bits. My Gallowglaigh fulfilled the same "forlorn hope" role leading the Scottish schiltrons against mixed formations of English billmen, Landsknecht pikemen & mixed shot. We spent a lot of time hanging out with our German counterparts. While the Doppelsoldner and his arse big sword was always fun to engage, I have learned a deep abiding respect for both the katzbalger and dusaks as brutally efficient back up weapons. I have to say... even in fairly heavy armor and doing it for an audience rather than for blood, it still takes work to convince yourself to charge a bloody pikesquare, especially if you've seen a full speed "front rank to sidearms" drill.
  10. Re: Sword Oriented Martial Art I've fought with a variety of both types of greatswords, and you sum it up well. I have noticed a lot of blade grips among renaissance era martial techniques. They also seem to favor leather gauntlets as hand protection. Shifting grip from a traditional two handed grip to half sword is not without risk... I punched the fluke of my claymore straight through my palm one time executing a hard block (I have had "claymores" both with and without wrapped riccasso and/or flukes). Cutting pikeheads is HARD! Zwiehandler style 2 handers aren't my specialty, but after we acquired a couple we hauled out some old perimeter poles that were awaiting firewood duty and did our best to test out the whole "hacking off pikeheads" bit. 'S hard, man. Not, however impossible, and you can maul the hell out of a formation even if you don't snap off a single head. We practiced that move with axes, too
  11. Re: Focus - only to remove limitations Another elegant way I've seen it done is by using variable limitation with a set list of options.
  12. Re: Blasters in Dark Champions Nice! inspired use of Variable Advantage there. Although after long contemplation, I've grown to favor making mini-guns a non selective AOE and keeping autofire, with a bit of a house rule nudge to shift the way AF & AOE interact, because it really doesn't feel like a minigun to me unless it will chew apart anything that doesn't have enough DEF to avoid damage.
  13. Re: [PAH] Themed Characters I keep thinking that I should post "Captain MacAoidh's Traveling Medicine Show, Trading Post, and Saloon" on this thread, but I keep putting it off because it's gonna take a lot of typing....
  14. Re: Order of the Stick Maybe Banjo forbids it. I for one have no problems keeping Belkar around. He's a pretty classic archtype (playerwise)... the guy who's playing just to kill & loot stuff and doesn't care about the in game consequences or plot.
  15. Re: Portal to mythical Mayan underworld found in Mexico Cool find, tho I REALLY hope that the obstacles listed are mythological rather than historical, otherwise I feel bad for the old priesthood charged with tending the temple... River full of scorpions.... no problem. River of blood.... messy but do-able River of pus... ewwwwwwww. Just.... ewwwwwwwww
  16. Re: Sword Oriented Martial Art Swordfighting on page 91 of Fantasy Hero is essentially exactly the style you're asking about... it includes half-sword & clubbing techniques. A couple of my old fight partners both run schools based on the styles featured in that show, and the FH write-up is pretty close
  17. Re: Resurrection, my players dislike it Yeah, speaking from the POV of someone who played an (essentially) undead character, getting shoved to the bottom of several tons of formerly wet concrete sucks even if you do get "better".
  18. Re: Nanobot Cloud Well done on the part of your player. Give him mad props, he earned 'em
  19. Re: fantasy hero archtypes Not to continue the derail too far, but I see the Fellowship as 4 players, each playing a "Hero" character and a "Hobbit" character. Gandalf is the walking plot device/GMNPC, which is why he seldom ever really cuts loose with the magic.
  20. Re: Fallout 3: Postapocalyptica Very cool. They've finally implemented a "build stuff out of scavenged junk" element to the game (The modder community wrote one for Fallout 2). Woot!
  21. Re: Resurrection, my players dislike it OK, I'm not quite sure what's up with your players (though in truth I suspect KS hit the nail on the head)... You've NEVER killed a character in a game before. They don't like the fact that he's hanging a "kill me" sign off his character (in metagame terms, anyway)? He paid the points for a cool thing. In order for the points spent to have value to the character, they have to come into play. Ergo, he's expecting you to kill him. Probably repeatedly. Sounds like my kinda character, actually (I tend towards low defense damage sponges myself).
  22. Re: Fallout 3: Postapocalyptica Having a hardcoded morality system in place has always been a feature of the system, so your actions in all the games has affected how the world interacts with your main PC. This was extra prominent in 2, with a ton of reputations that could alter your reactions and sometimes impart bonuses or penalties (Porn star, Prize fighter, Grave robber, & Child killer all come to mind) The Fallout Collection is a totally Value Added option if you like Post Apoc settings and turn based Isometric RPG's. There's a whole lotta hours of gameplay in those 3 games, and the system it's built on is a pretty straight up PnP system called SPECIAL, which was created after SJG pulled their backing to have the Fallout games use GURPS... after the whole Secret Service raid thing, they got a bit gunshy about taking on controversial topics while still in company survival mode. SPECIAL is sort of a GURPS/BRP/ElderScrolls hybrid mechanically, but it works. The first 2 Fallout games can literally be played like an RPG... You can make a "face man" type and actually talk & sneak your way through the whole story if you're so inclined.... Or build the uber gunbunny... or the unarmed combat specialist, or the melee combatant... or... you get the idea. It's a good timesink, and let me get my turn based iso shooter on, which has been a genre I've loved since X-Com. Oh, and Scott Bennie did some of the design work on 1 back in the day. Not sure about 2 tho. Another good source for all kinds of Fallout goodness is the Fallout Wiki, The Vault
  23. Re: Fallout 3: Postapocalyptica No Mutants Allowed is the site that springs immediately to mind. I'll have to check which were the mods I liked & get back to ya.
