  1. Re: Dune HERO not game related, but because I already have blue eyes all I need now are blue UV reactive full eye contacts and I can finally do my ultimate Fremen costume. I've already figured out how I want to build the stillsuit & crysknife mu'ad dib!
  2. Re: The cranky thread The latest... My job (not the leather working, the theater) is being investigated by the police for...... something. They won't say what, but they suspended all the upper management. One of said upper management, whom I've known and admired since I was 8, died last Friday from complications relating to his stomach cancer. I strongly suspect that the stress of the investigation was a contributing factor. Another of my role models, from ren faire, passed on about a week ago. At faire I played his great-nephew. He was a vet who was at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir as a Marine Corps medic. I was looking at a graphic of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and realized that my "needs" look like a game of Jenga just before everything collapses.
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Videos I hope, some distant day, to be half the stud he is....
  4. Re: Star Wars arms and armor On the topic of stormtroopers surviving being hit, I give you
  5. Re: Mental Defense for the Dead A thought/option that I haven't seen yet. In the same way EDM is used to "Go into the past" and Retrocognitive Clairsentience can be "perceive" the past, you could model this as Telepathy with the Extra/Transdimensional advantage (either reading the thoughts that were there at the time of death, or reading the thoughts of that persons spirit off in whatever afterlife options fit your campaign)
  6. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I just watched The House of Yes MAN, that was a f**ked up movie. *still shaking head*
  7. Re: Are Heroic Characteristics Realistic? I can dig it
  8. Re: Are Heroic Characteristics Realistic? There's something to be said for that approach, but I tend not to be as minimalistic with my approach to stats as you are Part of it is I do hang around with some very competent folks, and thus have a hard time seeing lower point characters as all that "heroic". I've seen and/or done enough stuff that I used to only read about in fiction that some of the mystery fades. I like 25+25 characters for a low, gritty game (Like Zombie Hero *Zombies Zombies Zombies*), but they're not going to be as competent as a lot of my friends. I honestly can't really remember Marv NOT pwning someone the moment he gets a hold on them, but it's been a while since I read Sin City, I'll admit. Tarzan (heck most of ERB's heroes) so regularly perform tricks of strength that it's probably easier to simply model them with an above NCM level STR (And probably Power skill: Strength Feats as well).
  9. Re: Are Heroic Characteristics Realistic? Yeah, Powerlifting records are mostly all up at 400 kg or greater And I tend to agree with what someone said above...Heroic doesn't have to mean realistic. Good arguments can be made that Conan, Tarzan and Marv are all 'heroic" level characters, and all of them perform staggeringly unrealistic feats of strength.
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Ego sum a lectus I am a couch.
  11. Re: You can't move! Ha ha ha! I've been using Speed Suppresses in FH as "Slow Person/Hold Person" style spells for a long time now. Don't find it horribly unbalancing, tho it is a LOT more effective against a single big opponent rather than a horde of smaller badguys
  12. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Come Sail Away- Styx
  13. Re: Building John Carter of Mars yeah, I realized that after posting it.
  14. Re: Return of the blimp/zepellin Honestly the role I see for Airships in the 21st century is as a luxury travel option, similar to cruise lines. A VERY green travel option, potentially. I've love to captain my own big arsed Carbon Nano-fiber solar powered Zeppelin around a circuit of major cities and resort town with a sort of "Moulin Rouge meets Hedonism III meets The Pirates of the Caribbean" vibe onboard. Who cares if it takes a few extra days to route around bad weather? We worry about schedules WAY to much in this modern era.
  15. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? All For Me Grog -The Black Irish Band
  16. Re: Capaign Theme: The Chase This sort of thing was the prime motivation in a lot of the David & Leigh Eddings books. the various heroes were always chasing off after one macguffin after the next, often with said macguffins being bad guys who were trying to get away.
  17. Re: Modeling world of "Girl Genius" you more or less just described my last 5 years...
  18. Re: Hello... nice write up bro. Too bad it costs the same real points as being a multimillionaire.
  19. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Forever -Dropkick Murphy's followed by Fanatic Heart -Black 47
  20. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Young Ned of the Hill -The Pogues "A curse upon you Oliver Cromwell..."
  21. Re: Most Obscure Reference You've Ever Worked Into a Game On the topic of direct theft from uncommon sources, many versions of the Red Redemption from the Lone Sloane comics have shown up in various parts of my personal gaming multiverse.
  22. Re: Discussion on costs of Characteristics One idea I've pondered to address the STR issue is to remove STR from the computations for REC and STUN and replace it with EGO. I've always felt EGO was underutilized for it's cost, and thus leads to many many characters being far weaker willed than representative examples from fiction.
