  1. Re: Why buy aid.... People seem to ignore what I think is the operative qualifier of this meta-rule. We are speaking about two equally valid ways to create a particular ability. Of course validity is determined by the GM, or by group consensus.
  2. Re: No damage from falling Ahh I was just having another brainspasm with thinking about density vs. drag... But then I thought that both density and drag are determined by using the volume of the object in question, of course then I thought, 'no, it's surface area, not actual volume' so again my brain hurts. So proportionally, the elephant's mass is greater than it's drag, moreso than the human's. Therefore it's terminal velocity is greater? Wiki had an interesting way of determining a very close approximation of terminal velocity. Of course that might be a little difficult to do with an elephant.
  3. Re: No damage from falling Ok, here's a part that really screwed with me 'ead. Seems like Drag/Air Resistance is one of the, if not the most important factor. Notice the freeflying human and the peregrine falcon both reach terminal velocity at 320kmph. The weight obviously doesn't affect it that much [in this example anyhow] - a peregrine falcon weighs in around 1 kg [Males weigh 570-710 grams; the noticeably larger females weigh 910-1190 grams] while a human weighs much more than that [female averaging 62kg, and men averaging 78kg].
  4. Re: No damage from falling So in game, using that oh so tasty Terminal Velocity Chart.... This number is actually just used for the damage inflicted, it doesn't change the actual speed at which they fall, does it? Somehow I am getting a headache reading this... lol Awesome stuff guys.
  5. Re: Help Requested: Name my Canadian team and it's members sweet. You'll have to wait for rep...
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Musings lol, my gf and I were on our way back from Vegas when the most amazing concept for a film evar came into my head... [we laughed most of the way home...] I dropped some crumbs to the floor while eating the oh so tasty snack mix the airline had deemed suitable fair... and I had a vision. For a Prequel. to Snakes on a Plane. Imagine a black screen, then in solid white letters... BEFORE THERE WERE SNAKES.... [fade out] [fade in] THERE WERE MICE ON A PLANE! Of course then there would be a great teaser montage of mice going crazy and eating passengers and such... and the lynchpin - a little girl singing [cause you KNOW how creepy that is...] - "She swallowed the spider to catch the fly, I don't know why she swallowed the fly, perhaps she'll die.." The movie ends with a young Sam Jackson lookalike turning to see the little girl singing, realizing that there's no hope against these rabid mice.... except for perhaps one thing.... [what eats mice?] "We need some mutha****ing SNAKES on this plane!"
  7. Re: All Scots don't have 17 str! Not to say they all had 17STR, but at the time we're talking about, the higher 'nobility' of Scots were the ones using the Claymores, and they were very large men. Men of 6ft+ being 'unremarkable' at the time - as the Fool says they were considered 'giants among men.' So yeah, they were very large men with high STR scores.
  8. Re: [Campaign] Champions of Vancouver *waits for news of QM's new position......*
  9. Re: What I learn playing a GM. At it's highest level, a game is art - it is a novel with you as the writer, and your troupe as the characters. As in any great novel, the story is important. The plot needs to be intriguing and well thought out. Always remember, however, that the players are playing the stars of the story. Always remember that you cannot write a great story without involving the characters in new, interesting, and challenging ways. The characters should drive the story as much as you do - make sure to set up scenarios that are challenging to the character (not just to his stats!) in ways that will elicit a response that will help drive the plot. Action on the GM's part should bring forth a reaction on the player's parts, which will then allow for a reaction on the GM's part.... A great story is a hero's journey. Ideally you can work multiple story arcs within the framework of the game, allowing for character arcs for each player. In this journey, each character should go through some sort of strife, usually because of a personal weakness of some sort. By going through this strife and conflict, he should learn to overcome his weakness and at the climax of the arc, be able to make a decision and take action according to his newfound knowledge. In example: A certain surly comic book artist character in my game stayed in the background and sulked and griped (which was in character). Through the course of a few adventures he began to stick up for himself more as he was challenged by NPCs in ways that would stimulate response, and therefore growth within him. In a climactic battle with a she-ghost who couldn't be affected by the party, he found a Katana (which he alone was proficient in) and realized that he needed to stand up for himself and his friends and face down the she-ghost. He did, realizing multiple things like: that he needed to pull his weight, that he could actually make a difference in something, that he cared for these others in the group, and that he could actually 'take the spotlight.' The character finally sending the she-ghost back to where she belonged was a climactic ending to the scene that all players enjoyed. It was hard fought, and deservedly won. Moments like that make a game great, not just fun. Of course if all you want is a comedic game that satisfies in the here and now, go for it. It's not the style I prefer, but I'm sure lots of people have fun doing just that.
  10. Re: [Campaign] Apocalypse Champions Vat is zis playingk you are talkingk about? I'd love to... sometime...
  11. Re: Adjusting Costs When STR is 2 points While I agree that "Weapons Training" has much to do with it and I really like your way of going about it, we should also look at the apparent size difference in humans from then til now... I don't know about you, but I certainly couldn't fit in the suits of armour I saw at the Armoury in London.
  12. Re: "Why'd you yell FIRE! when you fell into the chocolate?" Death by Chocolate is a reality here in Vancouver...
  13. Re: What I learn playing a GM. I think it's a great idea.
  14. Re: What I learn playing a GM. Most of the time the GM's vision of 'improvements to the character' is not the same as the player's vision...
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Poor Bazza...
  16. Re: Casual Survey: Age of players and Hero's utility vs. other games Yes, yes you have.
  17. Re: [Campaign] Champions of Vancouver Sounds like it was fun, sorry I had to miss!!!
  18. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game Looks like a fun line-up! snobs vs losers, lol, nice! Oh no worries about apologies, the characters you picked certainly give a sense of what the style will be, and not all characters will fit in that style.
  19. Re: How to build: instant learning Telepathy could certainly be one of the SFX that would explain this power.
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Ahh flaming sharks... is there ANYTHING they can't do?
  21. Re: How to build: instant learning I really like this one actually. Really now, what game would you need 1024 different skills for? This should cover it all for you. 38pts is not pricey to have all of those skills at hand. Should probably be some limitations on it like extra time and such.... whoch would make it even cheaper...
  22. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game Wow, no speedster? strange methinks... Actually I was thinking about putting together a speedster with a Magneto/Quicksilver legacy, but you know, I've spent enough time on Hero designer for a couple days at least then again....
  23. Re: [Online Game]New 'Marvel: Next Generation' game Yikes, I do not want to be in the shoes responsible for that choice... tough tough tough!

    x3

Re: x3 I enjoyed it, and I worked on it [just as a background performer, and no, you can't actually see me in any of it, though my gf can be seen in Magneto's forest speech, she's got huge red hair and orange under her eyes, she's in the first row at the left in the crowd.] I do have to say they cut out a lot of stuff that they filmed... but overall I liked the choices that were made... wow, ruthless with the characters in it... I wanted to see more of Angel, and of course the 'missing one'
