  1. Re: Whattya call it? Have you thought about a name based on the town they are in or something even more abstract? One of the most enjoyable RPG experiences I ever had was using the "Stalking the Night Fantastic/Bureau 13" rules, but the game was universaly called by its nickname: Mortis Omega (Latin+Greek for Dead End guys which was the GM's Dad's name for the group of teenagers that always hung out at his house on Saturday instead of going out on dates with girls!). The GM was basically doing his own version
  2. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! that would not be allowed since it exceeds the stated Damage Class limit of 20 DC's. Actually, this should have instead read: Maximum Damage Class of 20 for attacks with manuevers except for Haymaker and *Movethrough. A Move By with max STR 100 and LEAP 108" would be 31DC with 20OCV, but if using flight or running instead it maxes at 19-20DC like everything else. I am tempted to allow the 30DC since a martial throw would pulverize the character but for the time being combined damage from a Move By has a max of 20 DC. *refers to max OCV 20 enforcement on a 6" Move Through.
  3. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! vehicles and followers are not going to be allowed for the same reasons that focus and duplication aren't either (too easy to abuse). 90 point cap on points spent so 100 STR, 55 CON, 40 DEX etc... reduced END on STR or any other naked advantages would count towards the point cap however.
  4. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! actually I had it right the first time, you guys made the mistake!
  5. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! I did not allow any Focus or OIHID, Instead of Banned limitatons I gave a list of Allowed ones instead. It seemed easier that way since there were fewer that seemed applicable to this format. Sorry for the confusion.
  6. Re: Whats your favorite Attack? Something is Rotton in this stated attack!
  7. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! Ok everyone, Here are the Welterweight Wombat character creation rules: Someone else can define the Heavyweight(unlimited) ones. Characters to built on 350 points maximum. Characters must have minimum of 50 points in disadvantages from the following categories: physical limitations susceptibility vulnerability [*]Maximum Combat Value of 20 (OCV or DCV) with levels and manuevers. [*]Maximum Damage Class of 20 for attacks with levels and manuevers(except Haymaker, Move By, and *Move Through). [*]Maximum of 8 speeds [*]Maximum of 90 active points in any one power or characteristic. Banned Powers Duplication END Reserve Extra Dimensional movement Find Weakness Luck Multiform Summon All characters with Desolidification are considered non-desolidified vs. other characters with Desolidification. No skills as powers. No Penalty skill levels (only combat levels can be used with Move Through and the maximum OCV for a 6" Move Through must be less than 21). No more than +2 worth of advantages or limitations allowed per power. Banned Advantages: Burnout Charges Delayed effect Megascale Transdimensional Usable on others as attack *NNDs and AVLD must have a FREd or 5th edition Champions suppliment example of the attack type. Allowed Limitations: Activation roll Concentration Extra time Gestures Incantations Increased endurance Range limitations Frameworks: Multipowers and EM's must have tight themes (FREd or 5th edition Champions suppliment example). No variable power pools Banned Maneuvers: Rapid fire All Wombats will be judged in a Poll voted on by our judges based on how the Wombat would do against the majority of all the other Wombats in the following scenarios. Combat Scenerios (5 points total): Oversized Football/Soccer Field (100"x50") Scenarios, 2 minute time limit for each, draws are worth half a point (3 possible points): Capture the Flag: The Wombats start at 1 hex size gates at opposite goal lines, put a golf-flagstick in middle of field. The goal is to get the Flag and then take it back through your starting gate. Half court or Offense/Defense version: One Wombat starts with flagstick in middle of field with goal of getting past the other Wombat who is defending a 1 hex gate on goal line. (This scenario is played twice). [*]Knockout the Wombat scenarios, No time-limit, NO draws (2 possible points): Knockout the other Wombat on a featureless 100"x50" field. Knockout the other Wombat on 100"x50" junkyard field (objects of various sizes available to throw and hide behind). Once we have enough Wombat entries I will start a poll that everyone can vote on. May the best Combat Wombat win!
  8. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! My appologies everyone. I didn't feel like I was doing a good job of gathering a good consensus on this so far so I had been ignoring it. I will go over everyone's posts to this thread in the next couple of days and will post my rules for both character creation and tournament judging soon after. At that point, everyone can begin submitting chacters here. Once we have enough variety and hopefully at least 10 submissions I will start another thread with a poll so everyone can judge which character is the real Wombat of the bunch for themselves. IMO, multiple submissions from one person (of different archtypes) are ok but remember we can only vote on a maximum of 10 different submissions so I think we might end up having each participant pick 1 of their submissions to this thread to then be included in the poll.
  9. Re: How would you design this with FREd? glad to be of help.
  10. Re: The cranky thread bad karma , but good humor the cranky rule: do cranky unto others before cranky they make you! cranky fu?
  11. Re: Paying END for Powers instant powers like attacks you pay each time you use them. constant powers like force fields and flight, you pay end every phase of your character's speed while the power is active. (this is one of the few drawbacks to high speeds, flash effects are another..)
  12. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Is that an Adam Hughes cover?
  13. Re: Robocop's Holster I like the idea of a specialized concealment and a fastdraw both built as a power with some common sense limitations; special concealment and bonus only works on items certain size or smaller. Another question is whether it can get an item by airport x-ray security? Good idea Dust Raven.
  14. Re: "Grond smash!" and other Grond plots Grond has a toothache, For anyone that has watched Justice Friends on Dexter's Lab you'll understand.
  15. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book I like it. I like it a lot!

  19. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I just finished reading Ringworld's Children by Larry Niven. This the fourth Ringworld book and Niven states in the preface that the story practicaly wrote itself based on conversations on a Larry Niven/Known Space discussion board! (makes you wonder how much of our stuff Steve Long pays attention to?) For a longtime fan like myself it was a refreshingly quick read and closed up loose story elements at the same time still leaving room for new stories with some of the best characters down the road. If you have never read Niven I strongly recommend the entire Known Space series of books as this is one of the most fleshed out future histories out there. Nivens collaborations with Jerry Pournelle and others also are great. See Lucifer's Hammer for one of the books that helped inspire the big rock hits planet hollywood movies of a few years ago. It was written in the 70's and most of the science still holds up.
  20. Re: How would you design this with FREd? The scaling effect you mentioned is really a GM control thing. The Backup Reserves Recovery I described above could have an additional limitation that the power source has to have a minimum "X" power output to reach the maximum Recovery value that you purchase. Another alternative would be to sidestep the whole Backup Reserve and just buy a massive Healing vs. END only usable to recharge the Primary END reserve (-?), only when attached to an electrical outlet (-2). This in turn could also be staggered. A Primary amount of Healing dice that operates on anything as small as typical house current and then a Secondary that only kicks in at much higher outputs (example: power transmission lines)
  21. Re: How would you design this with FREd? I think you are trying to make this more complicated than it is. What you are describing is not too different than what FRED has examples of for an End Reserve on pages 103+104. Just buy an Endurance Reserve (Primary) with a standard Recovery (based on solar cells or something) and then buy another Reserve (Backup) and Recovery with the -2 limitation can only recover END when plugged into an electrical socket. If you want the Backup (when charged up) to be able to help recharge the Primary you could also buy Healing (END) costs end (from Backup reserve) only to heal (recharge) the Primary END battery (-2?) If you want to limit what type of 'electrical sockets' your Backup Reserve can recharge from it might be worth an additional (-1/4 to -1/2) limitation (on top of the -2). hope this helps
  22. Re: The cranky thread Or better yet, you could follow the teachings of Mahatma Mightybec: eat some ice cream and touch yourself!
