  1. Re: "Super Heroes" vs. "Superheroes" I enjoy both types as long as I know what to expect before character creation. Interestingly, your description reminded me of good times playing low level D&D characters (from 1-7th level). This was always the most exciting and gritty time to play any class as you have to be really careful or just about anything could wear you down and kill you. Once past this level you had much more breathing room for the minor stuff but the game tended to hit overdrive in the power escalation department. high powered superheroes with multipowers are a good analogy for this as well just by adding slots or increasing the pool size.
  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER yep!!! which thread is that? taking an ice-cream inventory in mean time....
  3. Re: Whats your favorite Attack? does that go for bouncies too? :bounce:
  4. Re: Doing The Almost Done Dance (Hero Helper v2) thanks for the update. even v1.5 looks very useful so I eagerly await v2.0
  5. Re: What the heck is BODY anyways? To paraphrase "Princess Bride" "To the Death!" "No!! To the Pain!!" Pain is a forced concept in just about every other system besides HERO. HERO has this as an intregal characteristic called STUN (not an endorsement on whether it should be figured or not btw). BODY is the more lethal flip side of the coin that is not used nearly as often on player characters in most HERO games IMO. This is a GOOD thing since character creation for ANY game is an investiment of creativity and it stings to have all that work go to waste if the character gets killed due to the basic/intrinisic/default lethality setting of one game system vs. another. Not to say that D20/D&D don't have ways to adjust this, I am sure they do but they are not as easy to change between as HERO.
  6. Re: Whats your favorite Attack? Trick or flanking manuever attacks can be fun and win style points but a good solid punch or a good straight energy blast are still the most consistently useful and therefore my favorite attacks. I personaly like choosing powers that allow variance of the delivery method (telekinesis, desol, invisibility) rather than going for esoteric attack powers like mental, drains, transforms and such since these tend to have the effect of escalating the power race in campaigns with majority of less experienced players that may have not designed the most 'perfect' characters with ALL the appropriate defenses that their concepts easily could have supported.
  7. Re: What the heck is BODY anyways? One additional point, besides not being coupled to CON or STR, BODY is also not coupled to fighting skill the way hit points in other systems usually are (not sure if this has changed much).
  8. Re: Disavowed comic book - anyone run a game similar to this? I'm not familiar with the comic but the Secret Worlds game you described sounds very similar to a game I played in several years ago using the Stalking the Night Fantastic/Bureau 13 rules with a totally GM created setting that had characters with all manner of abilities: PSI, Magic, and normal gun users. The game mechanics were attrocious but the game was fun because the GM pulled it all together with a engaging storyline. This is the gameworld I want to revisit and GM someday using HERO system heroic rules. You should have no problems selling this type of game if your talent to jump around every part of the hero forums translates to your GM'ing skill!
  9. Re: How would you design this with FREd? your question appears to imply that the transformer is to be used in relation to a character or device that has an end reserve that only recharges using a certain type of current. I'm just not so sure how big a deal in game terms this is since it at best would be worth a 1/4 limitation above and beyond only being recharged by any type of electricity. If the character has gadgets that make it easy to bypass voltage requirements it wouldn't really be a limitation so therefore shouldn't be worth any point savings. please clarify if I am missing some important point.
  10. Re: Haiku Hero Pie beating Taco Taco's right's violated Pie loses in court
  11. Re: what non-fiction books have you read? please rate it ... Outside of gaming and sci-fi my favorite hobby reading subject is physics. Here are a couple of the more recent ones of note: The End of Time, by Julian Barbour. Presents a very unique perspective on time compared to more traditional fare. The Elegant Universe, by Brian Greene. The best entry point for interrested novices. A pbs special was inspired by this book. The book is far better than the tv special which was good considering the time constraints.
  12. Re: Help with team name how about MADD ? Many Against Dasterdly Dobadders "We are many and we are MADD!" *with all due respect to the other MADD Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.

  17. Re: accepting rules suggestions for 1st Annual Combat Wombat Steel Cage Grudge Match! Wow, yes you have! I thought that others would veiw this as a worthwhile exercise to see if a particular character type actually has a measurable advantage over other types using a small range of common situations as a measuring stick above and beyond the X vs. Y scenario. Accepting the validity of this type of experiment requires the use of 'playable' characters if we really want to see game relevant results.

  21. Re: Sonic Boom: Speedster SFX I remember reading about Flash's powers a while back. I can't remember if this was Barry Allen or Wally West but it was explained that the same 'speed-force' that keeps him from burning himself up when he runs so fast also keeps the air from creating a sonic boom as well. Otherwise, every time that he uses his superspeed to nearly stop time momentarily (from his perspective) he would be creating sonic booms continuously!
