  1. There is a used copy of Synnabar at my local used book store. Is it as bad as the legends say it is???
  2. Dice Pro is an EXCELLENT program. It can be made to quite easily do hero dice rolling of all types. There are times I like using a dice roller when I dont want my players to know I am rolling up something. as for the dex/stun tracker...simple is best. I do hope that someone writes a Palm usable version. Good luck on it. I think apps for PDA are a very untaped market.
  3. Steve nailed it right on the head. Deadlands Machanic of using a deck of cards and drawing poker hands for how well magic spells work in a given situation was genus. ShadowRun's Magic system has a great feel to it as well. It can be a little slow running a combat with it, but the results are worth it when you can get the system down.
  4. This is a great thread. You two should contact Dave Mattingly at Digital Hero and work this up as a article. I read a lot of good stuff here, but rarely do I actully save the post with the intention of using some thing in an excisting game. This will dovetail nicely with my Tunfaire game where silver is used as a magic source. Great going gang....
  5. mavnn, I like your ideas. I normally dont do "me too" posts, but that one really hit home for several ideas for me./ Keep up the good work. Great thread here everyone. Makes me really wish Fantasy Hero was out.
  6. I'm actully happy with the the system as is for now. Of course, Imostly run mid level normal games and such, so the powers is not as crital for me. That being said I feel most everything works decently well as is. My supers were usually of the basic Brick, Energy projector, Martial Artist, without a lot of the extra rules...Its just a style of play we do. Interesting comments though, great Thread
  7. Off topic here a bit, There have been a lot of gate travel books and stories thru the years, so I would mostly side with the good ole "great minds think alike" explanation. On the other hand, an good enteraiinment lawyer could make the case, if he could afford one. I would be interested in Steve's opinion. Just doing my job of p;utting you on the Spot ,, boss!!!!!! THAG
  8. Check out Gurps Cliffhangers for someof this info. Also check out Call of Chtulu source books. Keeper companion comes to mind, but there are others. Justice Inc is a great Hero game thats long out of print but shows up on Ebay every now and then. Also check your local libaray for time year books and Sears Catalog reprints.
  9. I have been thinking hard about you game, and I would almost have to set mine in the 80's Better music, and I know the era's movies better
  10. Yaa I qualify as one also. I have Strike Force, Circle and Mete and the first Adventures Club. I have a letter published in one of them... and I have the old greating card for xmas that was sent out around 85 86????? weird!!
  11. Gosh, all the games I have run under Hero rules.. two different SuperHero games. a Call of Cthulu game. three different DI games. ONe set was jewel theves. Another set was a group of security experts. Twilight 2000. we converted the entire books into Hero games. Star Trek Klingons game. Based on John FOrd Final Reflection book. Hero Shadow Run. Fantasy Hero based on Glen Cooks Randel Garret books. We did a All flesh must be eaten game. we also did a Weird War II game also. I ran a Ducktales/Darkwing Duck/Scrooge game. 20 years of games..how time flies

    Rifts HERO?

The rifts books have neat artwork though..... I tried playing a Rifts game, and just coulnd't sog thru the system.
  13. This is mostly a "me too" post. I think the Plug and Play approach is the way to go. Design the powers for the newbie players based on special effects and I think you will have a winner. I would also like to see some generic art work that could be customized by PS to make pictures of thier hero and villians, kinda like the old Character sheets. Thanks for the chance of input Steve
  14. I think I have about 90% of everything. I had first edition rules, but those were lot in a trade. I do have Mythic Greece, but not Egypt. I keep my eye out for older stuff, but I wont go crazy to pay lots of money for it. I do plan to collect everything Hero puts out. but as the books continue to come out more often, I suspect, I ll miss a few. Steve and Darren should be happy that they are getting 70 percent of my entertainment dollar.
  15. My house rule is "atta boys!!" My players keep track of those points I award for good role playing, making me laugh, bringing me pizza, pics of naked chicks, candy ect. Usually three points gets a re-roll of botched rolls, 5 give a session +1 for a skill and what ever else someone can talk me into. My wife has a badge she got a convention years ago "It's OK, I sleep with the GM"

    Pulp Hero

local libaries are great sources for this type of material. I am amazed that more players and GMs don't use this free resource. A lot of the books that have been listed in this thread are available at most public libaries. Actully use your tax dollars, visit there.
  17. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Ninja Hero, but I am not sure how much would be useful in a Historcial Japanese RPG thats all.
  18. I remember bushido as a fairly serious historical RPG. I do remember fantastic elements in it but it ws mostly played straight ans serious. Ninja Hero is mostly over the top in my opinion. I think using UMA and Fred would do Bushido quite nicely. I am sure there are elements of NH that would help, but I dont think you have to have NH to run the game. Just my 2 cents....

    Pulp Hero

I always loved the way the stunt men and women just thru themselfs in the fight scenes. No Wire work here , just huge men throwing anything they could get thier hands on and just duking it out... My wife reminded me to tell everyone one about J Men forever, and really funny send up of the old serials, the dialoge was redubbed and the finished product is killer funny.
  20. I have the HorseClans book. I think its a great book and could very easily be converted to Hero. I have not read the HorseClans books, but the informations seems complete and well presented. The artwork is a little stiff but not enough to ruin the book. Check Ebay as the book comes up a lot and usually not too expensive. I have not read the New Sun book, although its on my "to get" list.
  21. I just found a cheap used copy of Gurps Travaller and I think its excellent. Warehouse 23 is a blast And finally IOU is the funniest suppliment I have ever read. Hero will always be my home system. But for a long time, I thought the Gurps products were the best on the market for writing, reshearch, and layout. I think Hero is coming up very fast and will surpass them, but the well done gurps books are a standard that every publisher should strive for.

    Pulp Hero

Doh!!!! yep its G8, but I stand by my statement that its very pulpish in genre... I think Lee Falk wrote some Phantom books also, while I think they were written in the 50 ans 60s, I think they quailfy as pulp style reads. And lets not forget the insidious DR Fu Manchu!!!!!
  23. Actuly, I do buy books because Steve and Darren have thier names on them. Being a total Hero completist, I do plan on getting that I can, I am lucky enough to find the odd rule book at a used books store or the slightly damaged copies that GAMEBOARD puts on sale every now and then. That reminds me, gotta buy new book case for all of the books that are coming out the next couple of years..!!
  24. I would be running a Star Hero game or a Modern Horror Hero or that vein before I runa supers game again. I am leaning toward the The Ultimate Vehicle book, but if Terrian is a short print run I might take that instead.. I am not complaining that DOJ is putting out too much stuff, its just that I am saving for A: a used laptop computer B Digital Camera C: DragonCon I really need to keep other costs down...like eating out a lot, buying books that collect dust on the shelve, that kinda thing.... Thanks THAG
  25. Does any Hero fans check out the gurps books like I do. I am not a Huge fan of the Gurps system, but the world books and setting are Fantasic. Does anyone else here in Hero land use the books for game setting or at least Ideas?? My favorites are Cabal, Arabian nights, Celtic Myth, Technomancy, Ogre, and the really cool Robin Hood book.
