    The Event

Re: The Event Heck, if that is the case, I am in Los Angeles. Mind if I show up for my cameo?

  3. Re: Iron Age/Dark Champions Concept Sounds good. Why only a one shot though? It sounds like you could tell quite a few stories there.

    The Event

Some of us like them and some of us hate them, but we all have been subjected to them. I am talking about the 'summer' event in comics when they try to do something so big that it runs through most of the books on the shelf. Crisis on Infinite Earths, Secret Wars, Bloodlines and all the rest. In the Champions Universe, the Battle of Detroit would be one such event. I have plans to do something like this in my game. The first one will just involve the players as another team of people that are helping The Sentinels. Their part will be crucial but they will be pulled in by the more experienced team as part of their plan to defeat the threat. It should only run about 1 to 2 game sessions. I am getting them used to this idea because the next event will have them in the driver's seat and will run several game sessions. What I would like to know is have you ever participated in an event in your universe? Something that dragged in quite a few teams and what not.
  5. Re: Iconic Champions ( 4e ) That sounds like her former teammates should be disturbed by her. Plus word should have traveled far and wide that she gets people killed. Solitaitre would be avoided like the plague.
  6. Re: Supers & Media: Fatal Attraction. In one of my past games I had a player (Black Zero) reveal his secret identity on national television. The problem was that he did not bother to tell his government sponsored super agent wife that he was going to do that. Their apartment was surrounded by the media. When Black Zero came home they got into one hell of an argument and she flew out of the apartment at top speed. He, immediately telported her back to continue the argument ( not thinking about her velocity) and she crashed through their apartment wall and fell the four stories down into the crowd of reporters. The reporters got footage of her unconscious body and of Black Zero looking down from the hole in the apartment. Needless to say, it was one heck of a night for the evening news.
  7. Re: TV's Witchblace Man. I loved the first season of that show. The second season (shudder).
  8. Re: Tell me about you're JLA I am in the process of having to put one together. I decided to take the Freedom League from M&M and tranplant them into my game. I am renaming them The Sentinels and raising their power levels though.
  9. Re: need help with a character concept I am currently using Mordred myself but in my campaign he is called Mr. Derdrom. He is a shadowy character with a hidden agenda. He works mainly behind the scenes a lot and appears in Phantom Stranger style to get the players to do things that, generally, is mystic in nature. None of the players are aware of his true origins and that will play out in time as they learn more about his plans for the future. He might be a hero or he might be a villian, it will play out in time.
  10. Re: Reccomended Champions Library It is not bad to fall back on some classics, if you can get your hands on them. So, I would recommend Aaron Allston's Strike Force. It is a look into another GM's campaign, I have seen stuff I first read there referenced in many roleplaying books. Champions UK was not my favorite for characters but I liked the information on the location and read through it often. Conquerors, Killers, and Crooks is pretty darn good. UNTIL and Viper are major forces to deal with in The Champions Universe so they are really good to have. The Hero System Bestiary comes in a lot more handy than I had intially thought it would.
  11. Re: So Viper, huh. I am going to try and get that reaction from my players. I was just curious. I had a conversation with my old GM last night and told him my plans for Viper in my game. He remarked that he used to think of Viper as just kind of thuggish. He wished that he was in my game. heh
  12. Re: Healing Champions Actually, I did not even think about Regen Beds but they have not put together enough scratch for the base yet. (first adventure and all) Good idea. I can see that as more of a compromise between myself and the players. It will, also, stimulate them to think more about getting a base, instead of working out of the Italian Restaurant.
  13. I was interested in how Viper is used in your campaigns. Do your players (or youself) see them as a true threat or a bunch of guys that are just there to get pounded?
  14. Have you ever had players try to stretch for reason that they would have a power, even if the character concept does not support it? I had my players come up with concepts for my ' Millenium Blues' game. This was going to be their first time with this system. After everyone came up with their idea, they discovered that no one was playing a character that could heal for the group. Three players started to come up with ideas so that they can do that. They were reaching pretty hard. I listened to them and said that it just did not fit into the concept that they gave me. No one got a healing power, mainly because they could not justify why their character would have one beyond it being convient. Later (after four games sessions and close to the conclusion of the story arc that have been working on for all four sessions.) two of the characters take some Body damage and a player tries to take a dig at me. " If we had a healer, we could take care of this." I shrugged and let it pass. They finished the arc successfully and I did not need to point out that they had done so without a 'healer' in the group. Most of my players had come off of D&D and online games, so I can see where they believed a healer was essential. My question is (I know, I know, finally) how essential is someone that heals in your Champions campaigns.
  15. Re: Next Week: VIPER Sounds good. If you wanted, I see no reason why the pullout team could not be a mock PRIMUS or UNTIL team. Viper would know how those groups work and their procedures. Things like that could drive the players to become closer to the real organizations so that they would not be fooled again. Maybe even going so far as getting a liaison from one of those groups.
  16. Re: Iron Age Philosophies Yeah that brings up a good point. The 'Event' that might have sparked a new breed of man is a good starting point for the Iron Age. Take normal world and then add X. As people get empowered they do the things they believe they should with the power. You are going to have less capes and more street clothes. People called Jim instead of Power Lad. New laws spring up to work against new threats. Everyone looking to exploit these peoples and their abilities for profit.
  17. Re: Next Week: VIPER Is this an elaborate ploy by Viper against the characters or are the heroes going to stumble onto this by accident? What is the make up of the Hero team? If it is a simple bank job and all they are after is information stored in the computer, why are they attacking during the daytime (I think) instead of sending in the espionage team at night? Do not get me wrong, it sounds interesting right now but I need just a little more information. I am currently running a game with Viper involved, but none of the players know it. Right now, they are doing exactly what Viper wanted them to do. I am very interested in how others use Viper.
  18. Re: What would Dr. Destroyer *really* do?
  19. Re: Iron Age Philosophies They are discussing that very thing in 'Secret War' from Marvel.
  20. Re: zodiac gang I remember liking that group, mainly because of the color pictures inside. The group felt kind of unbalanced IMO but maybe that was the point. Had a character named Tony Striker that fought them mostly. (Through a lot of luck he would wind out beating the whole team by himself most the time.) Maybe my Hobby shop might be able to help as he has a lot of the old Champions stuff there. I will ask.
  21. Re: Iron Age Philosophies
  22. Re: Iron Age Philosophies Not really essential but helps a lot.
  23. Re: Iron Age Philosophies The government is never something to be taken lightly. Whether you see them as the true masterminds behind every plot or if they are just playing catch up to the villians. The government is a true force to be reckoned with. They might not intervene because the characters are already involved in the situation but make no mistake contigency plans are in place. Although the cure might be as bad as the ailment.
  24. Re: A cure for Drogen Lar. Deironing Ironclad, your opinions welcome Sounds like a great seed for stories. I had a GM that would have ran with that. As Storn wrote, this is your game and if it makes sense in your campaign world then do it. The published material can only take you so far. Also, slight changes to their personalities can occur because of experiences that they had. So while the Ironclad that started adventuring might be fine with being metal, he might slowly but surely grow tired of it, wishing of the simple pleasure of being able to hold anything in his hands without having to be amazingly careful that his casual strength would not destroy it. He might not be able to sleep in the same bed as a loved one because if he rolled over he could cripple them.
