Jujitsuguy reacted to Doc Democracy in Use of Naked Advantage for Mental Powers to push through Opponent's Magic or Mental DefensesWhat I am not seeing is the "reasonably common and obvious set of defenses that cancels out the attack" required by any power bought as usable as an attack. The player should be rolling you directly how you bypass the effect.

Jujitsuguy reacted to LoneWolf in Use of Naked Advantage for Mental Powers to push through Opponent's Magic or Mental DefensesYou cannot have darkness that covers the unusual sense group as a whole. Each unusual sense is considered a completely different sense group. So, you can have darkness to detect souls (in the unusual sense group), but that does not block another sense in the unusual sense group. You would have to buy each unusual sense as a separate sense. This does mean when you build your enhanced sense you don’t get any sense groups modifiers for free. Just build a sense from the ground up to counter this darkness. It will probably be fairly expensive and if you want to use it to attack you will need at least ranged and targeting and probably sense.
Naked Advantage will not even work. All a Naked Advantage does is allow you to buy an advantage or adder for a power or group of powers. It does not allow you to create a power you could not create with the normal rules. If you can build the power with naked advantage, you can build it without it.
Something like this would work. Detect Souls (unusual) Discriminatory, Ranged, Sense, Targeting for 27 Points.

Jujitsuguy got a reaction from Duke Bushido in Use of Arcane(Power) Defense vs Magical-Based Shape Shift (A type of Illusion)Not really...I managed to get value out of this and will close it if need be...

Jujitsuguy got a reaction from Chris Goodwin in Mind Control - How to do an attack on Machines that do not have EGOChris thanks for the response...fortunately, I did find the same item in 6E1, P. 149, under Classes of Minds:
A character who wishes to have Mental Powers that affect, for example, computers and other machines must buy the Powers at full cost, defined as affecting that class of minds. He cannot buy Mental Powers that affect Human minds and take a Limitation on them (such as Only Affects Computers). When using Mental Powers on machines that have INT but not EGO, substitute INT for EGO as appropriate.
I best guessed it, just wanted RAW...

Jujitsuguy reacted to Simon in When you perform a Brace AND Set, after the attack is performed, must the character re-establish a Set again--with the full phase--to achieve the benefit?Your associate is correct - so long as the requirements for maintaining Set are met (as noted in the rules you cite) the character can maintain the bonus without spending another full phase to establish the Set. If they wish to continue to receive the bonus from Brace, they must continue to meet the requirements for that as well (1/2 DCV, etc.).

You associate the base/most expensive form. The feature is not intended to track all possible files, it's there for cost calculation.

Jujitsuguy reacted to Beast in Restrainable overload? For me that breaks megascale ,as it could also be done to any movement power and is a cheesy munchkin build
Megascale for me was never to be that accurate
And the scaling for me was implied as whole numbers

Jujitsuguy got a reaction from Hyper-Man in Not sure how to rule on this powerAll:
In the end, the player is admittedly, and HAS admitted to be a power player when it comes to First-Person games, and now also in RPGs....thus, trying to buy every bang for his buck...or attack point for character point, in this case.
The way it is written--thanks for pointing this out dsatow--is that it is a single attack, and if it hits the target, two individual damage rolls are done, suspect to each individually offset by defenses. I have gotten the player to admit that is what his intent was, and we are keeping it thus.
Now, for Cassandra and others on their suggestions, yes, all good, but that is not what the character was wanting to do...especially no NND-based attacks...he purposefully wants only Kllling Attacks...again, power-player thinking by my guess.
Anywho, this dead horse not only has been again beaten, but resurrected, killed by beating, and again as a dead horse beaten. :-p (Sorry Horse)

Jujitsuguy reacted to Hyper-Man in Not sure how to rule on this powerDid you see the 40ap cap mentioned in the original post?
-
Jujitsuguy reacted to Netzilla in Not sure how to rule on this powerThe campaign has a 40 Active Point / 8 Damage Class limit (with some exceptions allowing a 50AP/10DC attack). The player in question appears to be trying to circumvent the spirit, if not the letter, of that cap (thus 2x 7 DC attacks as one power).

In my opinion characters like this are best represented by a VPP - Multiform Only with some sort of time limit.
They also have great potential to slow the game down dramatically or obsolete team specialists - it depends on if they get to keep the sword after they find it and thus can multiform into the master swordsman at will or whether each 'read' is meant to be a dramatic and fairly unique thing (grab the sword while defending the museum, beat all the bad guys, give the sword back to the caretakers vs 'This might come in handy later)
The GM should be doing most of the work for this power and have multiforms ready to VPP into so the player doesn't need to either be told ahead to design a form to use in the session or try and build a whole new character in the midst of one just because he disarmed the bad guy and grabbed his Magic Sword.
That's a lot of trust between player and GM - but it's trust that could be rewarded by saving points by making the VPP not only multiform only with some sort of timed limit but also applying the full No Conscious Control (-2) so the GM decides entirely when an object is 'readable' and what happens when it is.
Complicated but rewarding (but complicated).

Clairsentience for object reading is established in the book but you have to ask yourself what the point behind the reading is?
If it's to get information about a situation that otherwise couldn't be gained *as well as* power the multiforms then it's Clairsentience. Could they read a carpet to find out the time of death of someone who was found dead on it vs touch the carpet and gain the knowledge needed to operate an industrial carpet loom?
If it's just to use the multiform I'd probably go with it's just a Limited or Conditional power "Must have appropriate object" on the pool or power. It could be disposable focus as well but focus implies something that sticks around or that can be acquired with various difficulties - I like conditionals better for temporary effects.

Cramming for skills but you shorten the time it takes from 6 Hours to 1 Phase. I used this with my build or Rogue a while back.
