There's a place here that does a Baked Potato pizza. It has thin slices of potato, sour cream instead of marinara sauce, chives, bacon, cheddar cheese, the usual baked potato toppings. It's pretty good, actually.
A Japanese variation is potatoes, corn (yes, corn), and mayonnaise. Might sound and look strange, but it tastes pretty decent.

Only three? Well, that will always depend on my mood, but here are three which come to mind now:
- "La Villa Strangiato" - Rush
- "Don Quixote" - Gordon Lightfoot
- "The Boxer" - Simon & Garfunkel
On another day it might be songs by Soundgarden, Dave Brubeck, and Elton John. Or Patsy Cline, Blue Öyster Cult, and Steely Dan. Or... or... or...

To varying degrees 1, 2, 5, 6 & 8 (although 5 & 6 are more predominant) - but Pariah's #10 would actually be my first choice!

In the Coldspring, TX situation I mentioned back in the 1980s, the local government was happy because of the incoming money. What shut down Humpy Parker & co. was the FBI, entering in force one day and arresting the entirety of the sheriff's department en bloc on federal civil rights violations. I assume that perhaps multiple someones of importance who lived in nearby Houston (or the someones' family members, because Parker's crew preferentially pulled over cars with Houston rock radio station stickers on them) got victimized, and that caused the attention of the federal authorities in the big city to be engaged.
Something along those lines in Brookside would be pretty good, too !

Policing for Profit. Another reason not to visit Alabama.
My thoughts keep coming back to this, and the situation really makes my blood boil. I sure hope that both the police chief and mayor get shown the door after the next round of local elections.

Okay, I get where you're coming from - and I don't disagree. More guidance for using the tools in the toolbox would always be good, with true examples of why decisions could be made and what the impacts would be. Many people have pointed out that some sort of practical, hands-on, with lots of actual, detailed examples, GM's guide for using HERO to make a setting and using all those dials and switches would be awesome. Just saying "yup, there are some options" isn't enough in and of itself.

Duke, I apologize up-front if I've misinterpreted any of your statements about the lack of what I'll call "toolboxing" for Skills in 6E, and I also want to state that I'm largely in agreement about the "skill bloat" seen particularly in Superheroic games. That said, I do want to point out that 6E does discuss - at least a little - how to change Skills to make them better fit a particular game's needs:
- 6E1 p54: Toolkitting: Skill Combinations (take several skills and lump them together into one umbrella skill)
- 6E2 pp300-301: Creating New Skills
- 6E Hero System Skills pp6-10: Pretty much the whole "Buying Skills" section (discusses eliminating skill sub-categories, further sub-dividing skills, more depth on the 6E1 "Skill Combinations" idea, etc.)
Don't get me wrong: I'm not setting myself up to die on the hill of "there's just so much guidance and it's all presented in an up-front-and-easy-to-find-manner" - but while it may not be perfect, a discussion of alternatives IS there.

Apropos of anniversaries, it's worth noting that, while I couldn't find the exact date, it's now over forty years since the publication of the first edition of Champions.
My notes on this sort of thing include a reference to a mention in Different Worlds magazine #23 that Champions was debuted at Origins Game Fair 1981. This was held July 3-5, 1981 in San Mateo, California.

For #1: biscuits and gravy - I don't truly dislike them, but for me they can't hold a candle to pancakes, bacon, and eggs.
For #2: pizza and steak are must-stays, but it's a tough call whether wings or shrimp gets the boot... probably shrimp.

Darn it, Duke, now that music is going through my head...

Yup, I know of whom you speak I figured it was a pretty safe assumption that you'd have worked through those little typos and mistakes a long time ago, though - so still leaving it as a historical thing and not an "OMG, we've been playing it wrong for 40 years!" deal

I've uploaded a PDF file with errata for Champions 2nd edition:
https://www.herogames.com/files/file/573-champions-2nd-edition-errata/
I've had this back-burnered for a long time now, but it wasn't until recently - after finally getting my hands on a copy of the fourth printing of the 2E rules - that I was able to dust it off and complete it.
Undoubtedly it's not more than a historical curiosity at this point, but I hope those with an interest will enjoy this smallest of Christmas presents

Original FH allowed monsters to be built using a "Monster Ability" called Noncorporeal for 50 Character Points. This is essentially Desolid, but allows for the Noncorporeal being to be affected by spells or magic items and also to affect the regular corporeal world through spells; Noncorporeal also eliminated the creature's base Running, forcing the purchase of Levitate or Haste for movement. The later Spell Book supplement presented a different version of Noncorporeal as a spell effect (not only purchasable by monsters) that hews a bit closer to standard Desolid.
So, THAT'S the meaning
