Hello everyone! Hero Games publisher Jason Walters here with an update. But before I being telling you what we are up to at Hero Games this quarter, I thought I would take a moment to share my thoughts on where we are, what we are doing, and where we may go in the future. And, of course, to hear your thoughts as well. Because an RPG publishing company is at its core its fans. With them, it can accomplish a great many things. Without them, it can’t accomplish anything at all. As many of you know Hero Games is owned by a parent company called DOJ Inc, which also owns the small press RPG distributor and promoter Indie Press Revolution (or IPR). While serving as g…

I am, curious, who owns the rights to the rules and mechanics presented in Fuzion? Are they still avaiable for license (Like Sendoku and Victoriana) or are they locked away forever?Specifically the Fuzion rules presented in Champions New Millenium with all the plug ins, but not the setting (which I assume is now owned by Cryptic Studios).

Are there any plans for printing physical books again or ways to get the hardbacks? Over time I have lost my hardbacks of the Hero 6th edition volume 1 and 2. Looking around the only options I saw were paperback from Amazon.com or drivethrurpg.com. I have an old copy of the POD paperback version and the colors are washed out and not as vibrant as the hardback was.

FYI When adding "Sixth Edition Character Creation Summary PDF" to your cart what actually gets downloaded is "Sixth Edition Character Conversion Summary". This looks like a common mapping problem and I think it can be fixed pretty easily.

Fellow Hero System Fans- I’d like to take a moment to talk about our plans for Hero Games in 2022. I believe they’re both modest and realistic, in that they can be accomplished on time and using our limited resources. At the same time they are also ambitious, as I intend to release four projects in 2022; one each quarter of the year. They will be the following: (Quarter One) HERO2023 Champions Begins Created by a group who wish only to be known as “Hero Fans.” This high-quality free electronic product provides everything you need to play your first game of Champions! It’s designed to teach people new to Champions how to play the game, but isn’t a complete presenta…

Since some of the other classic games have gotten premium reprints in recent years, I've dreamed of having the option of buying a reprinted 4e Champions BBB hardcover that's not from page scans (other than of the artwork) but from a modern recreation of the original layout -- with all errata integrated. It would require paying someone for data entry, copy editing, and layout, at the least. Last time I knew anything about those costs was in the mid-90s. Does anyone have an idea of what getting such a project ready for printing would cost these days? It would be so great to have the BBB (and ideally all the 2e and 3e games) available agai…

We here at Hero Games are deeply saddened to announce that our long-time friend, and frequent Hero Games author, Scott Bennie passed away earlier this week from complications due to pneumonia. As many of you already know, Scott suffered from extensive health problems for most of his life, and unfortunately this was one last struggle he simply couldn't win. I personally met Scott in the early Nineties -- probably at one of the first DunDraCons I attended -- after I began writing for Hero myself and hitting the con circuit. In addition to being a talented writer and game designer -- perhaps best known to Hero gamers for his superb work on Classic Enemies and two…

He hasn’t answered any rules questions since the end of May, and his profile said he last visited the forums in late July. Is he all right?

(Not really a question, but this forum seemed like the best place to provide feedback.) To quote Popeye the Sailor, "Garsh... this is embarasskin'!" 😳 So, I uh... I was using Champions Complete last night, and happened to notice a not-inconsiderable error I made in it, lo those many years ago... On page 20, when describing Pushing in Heroic campaigns, it says, "Pushing in Heroic campaigns requires an EGO Roll ... The character gains 1 CP to the ability per 1 point he makes the roll by, to a maximum of +5 CP." That is just flat-out incorrect. That second sentence should read, "The character can add up to 5 CP to the ability i…

I've been a bit out of the loop regarding HERO, so it's only recently that I came across the Hall of Champions program. And I have to say that I really liked the concept, as I thought it was a neat way to get some content out there, reviving interest in HERO etc. But I have to say that I don't quite get the reason for some of the guidelines. As this might interest others, I thought I'll post this here and not just do it privately by email. If that's not appropriate, feel free to delete this (and hopefully respond via PM then ) So, if I'm reading the "Rules Variants" clause the right way, I'm not allowed at all to publish variant rules for the offic…

Believe it or not, it was 20 years ago today that Darren Watts, Jason Walters, the Secret Masters, and myself bought the HERO System (and its related IPs)! It's been a wonderful, amazing journey ever since -- one with its ups and downs, like any journey -- but still an awesome one. My deepest thanks to all the HERO fans out there who have made it possible!

Hello everyone! We have a variety of projects going on at Hero Games right now, both for quarter one of 2021 and for the year as a whole. I wanted to let you know about them, get your input, and ask if there is anything you would like to see created by Hero Games in the coming year. Of course, I can’t promise you we will act on those suggestions! Only that we will listen and do what we can, given the limited time and resources that we have. Please feel free to comment. UPCOMING NEW RELEASES The following three projects have been turned into us, have been approved, and are in various levels of production right now. (If you have submitted a project to us and don’t…

Question for Hero company. I had a question on a discord server for Hero System about military ranks and points. I thought I remembered seeing it in my dark champions book but it was in storage so I couldn’t check. I found the information online and took a screenshot of the chart in the book. Is sharing that screenshot allowed? I see people asking questions about rules and costs of points all the time. But wanted to make sure it was permitted.

First, I know nothing about how this works. Second, I have no hero system experience, so this is not me trying to make a buck. I was curious if the company has ever thought about sponsoring a group to play Hero system as a youtube , etc, group online. Someone already know as a way to get eyes on the game more. I have only found a couple video groups play and they are not the level of production that makes them an enjoyable watch. Maybe this is a thought that has been looked into and it is not feasible. Maybe times have changed and this is more feasible now. Just random thoughts as I sit though huddle at work.

Sorry if I am late to the party, but I couldn’t find this on the forums. As a long time fan of Champions, has there ever been any discussion of having a “Living Champions” (or “Living Hero Games” if you prefer) type campaign? I know the world is askew at the moment, but I hope and believe that conventions and (in-person) game days and such will eventually return. When that happens, I would love to see more Champions offered (which seems be a recurring sentiment on this board), and I thought a Living campaign might be a good way to promote that: I’m thinking of a lot of the previous living campaigns I’ve been involved in: Living City, Living Death (still my favorite), Livi…

Hero Games will be launching a fan-driven community content program on DriveThruRPG in about a month, similar to Dungeon Masters Guild and Storytellers Vault. It’s going to be called Hall of Champions, and it will allow you to publish your own work on DriveThru for profit under the banner of being a Hero Games product. (Though solely for commercial purposes on DriveThruRPG.) You’ll be allowed to publish using any version of the Hero System you like from 1st to 6th, including Champions Now. You will also be allowed to use both intellectual property that belongs to Hero Games, as well as the Champions Universe, which belongs to Cryptic Studios. The program will supply artwo…

I just bought the Print+PDF bundle for Champions Now but I already own the PDF from DTRPG. IS it possible for me to gift the PDF license to someone else, and how is that done?

Is there a file icon for HERO Games. This would be an .ico file. I am creating some database files that I will share and would like to use a HERO Games icon rather than the generic one.

Hi guys! I'm planning out our next Bundle of Holding project, and I wanted to pick your collective brains about something which involves the history of Hero Games. As many of you know, I've been working steadily with the help of Allen Varney of Bundle of Holding to get everything that has ever been created in print by Hero Games going all the way back to its beginnings scanned and made available in electronic form. The next step in this process involves the old Adventurers Club magazines. I envision of B of H project that includes all the issues of it, Digital Hero, maybe some issues of Steve Jackson Games' old magazine Space Gamer. (I've worked with SJG on B…
