Greetings fellow HERO System fans! I know these updates should happen more often; and I’ll try to improve upon that. But for now, here’s what’s going on with Hero Games and the HERO System at the end of 2022. 1) First of all, if you haven’t joined our Patreon account (https://www.patreon.com/hero_games), please consider doing so. By becoming patron you will not only help fund the creation of of new books, but also gain the ability to review and comment upon unreleased material before it becomes available to the public. Right now we have a little more than fifty patrons; but I envision Hero Games having more like one hundred in 2023. Then we would be really “co…

Unfortunately we have some terrible news to report. Darren Watts, who used to be one of our business partners in DOJ Inc./Hero Games and has also worked for many other companies in the RPG industry, suffered a very serious heart attack last Thursday (December 22, 2022). It appears that his brain was without oxygen for an as yet unknown period. Darren's currently under sedation at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. While he isn't conscious, his wife Diane tells me he can receive visitors. We'll keep the forum posted as the situation warrants. In the meantime, please keep Darren in your thoughts and prayers.

Greetings everyone! We have a new Champions organization book available, first on Amazon but shortly in the Hero Store, on DriveThruRPG, and at Indie Press Revolution. The Institute for Human Advancement is one of the most insidious villain organizations in the Champions Universe. Any super mutant who has a positive public image has had to defend it, and themselves, from the IHA at some point. And anyone would develop a hatred for an organization if they had to routinely fend off the combination of frivolous lawsuits, hostile "newsmen," hate websites, front groups, lethal poisons, and occasional armed assassins created by it! However, most…

Out of all the Dark Champions books, this one has gotta be my favorite. I thought the villains especially had interesting themes and unique write-ups, including their gadgets, what their henchmen dress like, and the types of crimes they commit. Really hope we can see a revival of this one day.

This might be better directed to @Jason S.Walters, but does anyone know of any Champions posters in the world? I know I'd love to see a poster of the Perez 4th ed Champions and Hero Systems books. Does the art exist in such a way that posters could be made from them? Are there hi-res images that don't have the trade dress in the same manner as the book?

In a topic that drifted to how new players learn the game. I realized that we don't have crosslinks between the Discord and this site. Would it be possible to establish these links?

I'm aware Hero Games will likely never release any part of the HERO System under any kind of open license, and I'm okay with that. But, is there any way Hero Games could support the effort by Paizo, Kobold Press, and others, with the ORC?

In light of the success of Baldur's Gate 3, similar success for Pathfinder in video games, Games Workshop, R Talsorian(CP 2077), Mechwarrior, etc., I am a little saddened that Hero Games' IP lies fallow in this area. Would it be possible, at least hypothetically, for Hero Games to "buy back" its IP/licensing rights from Cryptic or whomever, so that Hero could be free to negotiate with a major game developer for a long term project to bring a AAA title into being. I believe that the Hero Games mechanics and approach to RPGs, if successfully adapted, would absolutely revolutionize the CRPG and Console RPG industry and keep Hero in the black for a very long time. Has ther…

This is something I'd been wondering about for a long time, and finally figured I may as well go ahead and ask... The previous incarnation of the Hero Games website included a clear and thorough Online Licensing and Policies page delineating what was and wasn't permitted in terms of fan creations and distribution of free Hero Games materials—as seen here on archive.org. Among other things, the page said the following: I can't find any similar guidelines on the current Hero Games site, and since that was ten years ago it's probably not necessarily safe to assume the same policies are still in effect if they're not posted anywhere (especially sin…

I'm planning to produce a series of short Fantasy HERO 6e for kids mini-adventures and I'd like to use some of the optional rules from Skills and the Advanced Players Guides. How do I annotate those within the text? Is a short paragraph stating rules A, B, and C from Sourcebooks X, Y, and Z, at the beginning of the products sufficient?

I am, curious, who owns the rights to the rules and mechanics presented in Fuzion? Are they still avaiable for license (Like Sendoku and Victoriana) or are they locked away forever?Specifically the Fuzion rules presented in Champions New Millenium with all the plug ins, but not the setting (which I assume is now owned by Cryptic Studios).

Something I have wanted for years is miniatures for champions based on the characters from the game. With 3d printing and kickstarter, this looks like something that could be a viable product.

Hero Games will be launching a fan-driven community content program on DriveThruRPG in about a month, similar to Dungeon Masters Guild and Storytellers Vault. It’s going to be called Hall of Champions, and it will allow you to publish your own work on DriveThru for profit under the banner of being a Hero Games product. (Though solely for commercial purposes on DriveThruRPG.) You’ll be allowed to publish using any version of the Hero System you like from 1st to 6th, including Champions Now. You will also be allowed to use both intellectual property that belongs to Hero Games, as well as the Champions Universe, which belongs to Cryptic Studios. The program will supply artwo…

Hello everyone! Hero Games publisher Jason Walters here with an update. But before I being telling you what we are up to at Hero Games this quarter, I thought I would take a moment to share my thoughts on where we are, what we are doing, and where we may go in the future. And, of course, to hear your thoughts as well. Because an RPG publishing company is at its core its fans. With them, it can accomplish a great many things. Without them, it can’t accomplish anything at all. As many of you know Hero Games is owned by a parent company called DOJ Inc, which also owns the small press RPG distributor and promoter Indie Press Revolution (or IPR). While serving as g…

Are there any plans for printing physical books again or ways to get the hardbacks? Over time I have lost my hardbacks of the Hero 6th edition volume 1 and 2. Looking around the only options I saw were paperback from Amazon.com or drivethrurpg.com. I have an old copy of the POD paperback version and the colors are washed out and not as vibrant as the hardback was.

I was looking at Green Ronin's Mutants & Masterminds Reprint Extravaganza and More! kickstarter, and it got me thinking about Hero. It seems like so many books are OOP, and it'd be nice to see them back on the shelves, and I thought this might be a great way of bringing them back. Or even looking at revising them slightly...

Forum member Ruppert has pointed out to me that the PDF for Champions Presents #1 we have on the website is incomplete. So I need to acquire and scan another physical copy; but, alas, both Noble Knight and Amazon don't seem to have a copy. Do any of you have one? If so, I'm sure we can work something out. Jason

Fellow Hero System Fans- I’d like to take a moment to talk about our plans for Hero Games in 2022. I believe they’re both modest and realistic, in that they can be accomplished on time and using our limited resources. At the same time they are also ambitious, as I intend to release four projects in 2022; one each quarter of the year. They will be the following: (Quarter One) HERO2023 Champions Begins Created by a group who wish only to be known as “Hero Fans.” This high-quality free electronic product provides everything you need to play your first game of Champions! It’s designed to teach people new to Champions how to play the game, but isn’t a complete presenta…

Color Art?

I'm going back through some old 5e supplements and remember, at some point, seeing color versions of art which was published in black and white. In specific, I'm thinking of the color versions of the Conquerers Killers and Crooks art for Eurostar, Gigaton, Doc D, etc. Are the color versions available to view somewhere?

FYI When adding "Sixth Edition Character Creation Summary PDF" to your cart what actually gets downloaded is "Sixth Edition Character Conversion Summary". This looks like a common mapping problem and I think it can be fixed pretty easily.

Since some of the other classic games have gotten premium reprints in recent years, I've dreamed of having the option of buying a reprinted 4e Champions BBB hardcover that's not from page scans (other than of the artwork) but from a modern recreation of the original layout -- with all errata integrated. It would require paying someone for data entry, copy editing, and layout, at the least. Last time I knew anything about those costs was in the mid-90s. Does anyone have an idea of what getting such a project ready for printing would cost these days? It would be so great to have the BBB (and ideally all the 2e and 3e games) available agai…

We here at Hero Games are deeply saddened to announce that our long-time friend, and frequent Hero Games author, Scott Bennie passed away earlier this week from complications due to pneumonia. As many of you already know, Scott suffered from extensive health problems for most of his life, and unfortunately this was one last struggle he simply couldn't win. I personally met Scott in the early Nineties -- probably at one of the first DunDraCons I attended -- after I began writing for Hero myself and hitting the con circuit. In addition to being a talented writer and game designer -- perhaps best known to Hero gamers for his superb work on Classic Enemies and two…

He hasn’t answered any rules questions since the end of May, and his profile said he last visited the forums in late July. Is he all right?
