  1. I doubt he has the guts to show up at their victory parade...
  2. President's day weekend next year, go to DunDraCon at the San Ramon Marriott (last year there, alas) and you will have an opportunity to meet and greet dozens of Hero Games fans, most of them local. Hero Games have long been a staple at DunDraCon.
  3. That's the thing about the Hero System. It's all about context. Unless you know the context (e.g. the campaign setting with benchmarks, averages, limits) the stats on the character sheet tell you NOTHING. Is this character weak? strong? average? Overpowered? Without a context, nobody can tell.
  4. I missed the opportunity to see this when it was first presented to the public - I was setting up in the artists alley at the time.
  5. If they had anywhere near the capabilities of a senior developer, they wouldn't be trainees then, would they?
  6. Being a Hero System fan, I can totally appreciate the concept of Quality vs Quantity...
  7. the smartest PLAYERS will look at tactics in the context of the action economy. Sure, in a world of multipowers, any PC can have a set of set-up powers like flash, entangle and the like - but it's far better that your second rank characters use such abilities to free up the heavy hitters to use their actions delivering the big hurt.
  8. Strongly Disagree. In order to be less powerful than the max only requires 1-2 DC downgrade at most. The net result is more than noticeable over the long haul. The game system is strongly calibrated to highlight small shifts of one or two dice, one or two combat levels, one point of SPD and so on. I would much rather play a PC that was a notch below the maximum than one that was defining the maximum. Not every Pc needs to be optimized for taking on the big bad. There is plenty of value in a PC that is better suited to mopping up the henchmen, saving the innocent bystanders, freeing the hostages, sabotaging the nefarious machinery or keeping the macguffin away from the bad guys. A better GM than you apparently encounter on the regular would create scenarios where every type of PC from Thor and Hulk to Black Widow and Hawkeye have a role to play and a share of the spotlight.
  9. This is an ad for Yamato delivery service, the company that actually holds the trademark for the japanese word for delivery service. When Studio Ghibli wanted to make the movie Kiki's delivery service, they had to ask permission from Yamato to be allowed to use that word in the japanese title. Another sneaky bit at 2:31 when the girls are playing badminton, the score is 9 to 6. The numbers 9 and 6 are associated with the syllables ku and ro which together form the japanese word for black. (Yamato's logo features a black cat)
  10. Face the downside and overcome it. How many compelling stories are told about a character who starts out as the strongest and just remains stagnant? The best stories all feature a character who we first meet as an underdog, a novice, an aspirant who is not strong yet - but is driven to become so. Which character do you want to play?
  11. To give some perspective to the violence inherent in the system, nearly all of the robots featured in this video weigh just shy of 250 lbs.
  12. Would it help if I got out and pushed? another nominee from the same songwriter.
  13. mostly onomatopoeia and sfx Kizuna Akari is both a vocaloid and a voiceroid. (so is Yuzuki Yukari, her intended audience)
  14. hex based mapping, 3d6 roll under, Armor subtracting from damage, one stat governing accuracy and another governing damage point build chargen, a la carte skill purchases, stat based skill systems - the design DNA fingerprint is unmistakable. Back to the illusion, does disbelieving it dispel the illusion completely or just for the one who disbelieves it? I forget.
  15. This was done for the 15th biannual MMD cup. The first character represents the Kongo - a Japanese battleship constructed by the British during WWI. The characters dressed as archers represent carriers.
  16. This year's season of Battlebots was pretty intense. Although a number of teams went to China to compete in a different show's contest, they still had most of their stars and a few new faces too. Some newcomers made a grand entrance, some sputtered. A few of them were utterly wrecked. I attended events almost twenty years ago and the amount of damage these machines produce has increased dramatically...very few of the machines I remember from back then still compete and few of them are still effective. I'm not sure if they are still going to be replayed on TV, but youtube has plenty of content.
  17. This video was made to promote a contest for users of an animation freeware package called MMD. It features some animations created by the userbase through the first two years.
  18. 30 years ago, the Loma Prieta earthquake rocked the bay area, interrupting the World Series, closing the Bay Bridge and collapsing numerous structures ranging from Oakland to Santa Cruz.
  19. If you build your character exactly to the maximum parameters allowed by the campaign, then you may become dissatisfied with your inability to grow until the rest of the campaign catches up. Scale back a bit and leave your character some room to grow.
  20. ok, perhaps there are too many Miku MMD models.
