  1. Re: 1905: The New Century Campaign ** rise from the dead oh thread of yore*** So what happened in this campaign? It looked like it had fantastic promise.

Re: Unity How is the multiple character thing working out? I always thought that it would be pretty cool to play in a campaign where each player had multiple characters (potentially at different point levels). For each adventure, the GM and/or Player would choose the team assigned to a given mission. I have never tried it, but I always thought that it would be a way to get that Avenger vibe (i.e. Black Panther teaming up with Thor). If every character got a little play and the GM was careful to choose low point players with pertinent skills it would mean that every character would get some limelight. I also thought that the UNITY concept would be great for that because the large scale that the team would allow and the thought that it would be mission oriented. Has anyone done something like that in a UNITY or non-UNITY context? Has it worked?

    Unity

I was going through some old threads and came across teh bunneh's UNITY campaign (which incidently was fantastic, much like his other campaigns). I have always thought that UNITY had great potential for a world spanning game. I had a short lived online game (that was actually an excuse to practice teamwork in combat for our main campaign) in which I used the UNITY / UN concept (i.e. excuse to have battles in all sorts of cities). However, I never have managed to get into a long standing game around that concept. Has anyone else run a successful UNITY / UN based game? If so, please share stories. For those that have not, what has stopped you?
  4. Re: Whoo-Hoo! Atlantean Age Is Mine! Has anyone done a full review of Atlantean Age? I did not find one with a quick search. If not, is anyone who has a copy willing to step up and write one up? Thanks in advance.
  5. Re: Classic Champions: VIPER's Nest I like the adventure timeline. Are your players experienced in the system? If so, I am sure the sessions will have that extra retro vibe to it.
  6. Re: Going from Champions to Mutants and Masterminds I played in an online game where we had a sister campaign in MNM. I thought that the system was perfectly viable and had a couple of very nice genre elements. Specifically, I loved the Hero Point system. I thought it did a nice job of mirroring certain aspects of the comics (i.e. get trounced in fight one, but turn the tide a the climax (after you accrue some HPs)). We actually tried to replicate that concept in Hero. In addition, I thought that Freedom City was a fantastic setting. The NPCs all had a sense of life and were very in genre. We actually used this setting for our Champions game. However, in the end, I prefer Hero. I think it has more granularity. Further, the dice system creates greater certainty for certain outcomes (on d20, a 1 has 5% chance of occurring, whereas on 3D6 a 3 has a much smaller chance). In other words, outlier events are less likely (while not impossible) in Champions. To a large extent, this is also a product of familiarity with the system. Also, I own Herodesigner. The fact that I own that app made character creation and storage infinitely easier than having to go back to pens and paper. (yes, I am that lazy) In short, I can understand the appeal of MNM, but it was not for me. I am interested to hear other comments.
  7. Re: Theron's Bay City Mash-Up Sounds like a fun story. Keep 'em coming. How have you found dealing with Oracle? I have always found multiform characters (I assume Oracle is based on MF) to be tough in practice as they tend to rob other characters of their role.
  8. Re: Special Effects VS Rules I think the answer is that if one character paid for the Fire (i.e. EB), than another would need to pay points to stop it (i.e. suppress). However, if the fire is just that -- some kindling, a spark and oxygen -- than anyone with a SFX that could impact on it (i.e. Treb's FW, sandman, water lad, or someone with an NND based on sucking the oxygen out), should be able to put the fire out. YMMV
  9. Re: Absorption to an Endurance Reserve I think someone should check this in the book or FAQ as my memory was that it was at the END, not END BAT price. Conceptually that interpretation makes sense as it treats END and END BAT as equivalents.
  10. Re: Absorption to an Endurance Reserve It is a two step calculations. First, look at the body from the attack (10) which is absorbed (assuming he rolled a sufficiently high number on his absorption). It is brought into his END Bat at the rate of END (2:1) not at the END Bat purchase rate (10:1). This absorption has no impact on the damage. Second, look at the damage including the additional defense only v. Electricity. 35 v. 40, no damage. That is how I understand that it works based on an old character I had. Hope that helps.

  12. Re: Your favorite Hero Codes of Honor I've had a couple of teammates who put this tobthe test. Occasionally they or I fail .
  13. Re: Strength and Dex Benchmarks I actually agree with you on that. What would you set his dex at? 23 with +speed and lightning reflexes, cost End as part of a Kryptonian Tricks MP?
  14. Re: Strength and Dex Benchmarks Ok, so building on some suggestions, here is a start: Note that the chart is built on the concept that 25 is the Max for a normal human (where I pegged Bats and Cap A) Strength: Superman = 100 Str Hulk (pre rage)= 90 Martian Manhunter = 80 Thing = 75 Colossus = 70 Wonder Woman = 70 (plus martial arts) Spiderman = 45 Captain America = 25 Batman = 25 Nighthawk = 20 Daredevil = 18 Flash = 15 Dex: Flash = 38 (though arguments could be made that flash is not that agile, just fast) Spiderman = 35 Superman = 30 Beast = 28 Captain America = 25 Daredevil = 23 Cyclops, Green Lantern = 18 Colossus, Thing = 15 Thoughts, corrections, additions?
  15. Re: Strength and Dex Benchmarks The game is aiming for a high power JLA type campaign. It looks like we will have people at the top end of the spectrum down to normal humans. I would love to see where people peg Supes all the way down. Thanks for your help.
  16. I pause at bringing up this topic as it often ends up in a never ending flame war. However, I have a need, so sanity for everyone goes out the window. Some of my group is discussing a new campaign. One issue is setting appropriate stat benchmarks for the world. I know I have seen various stat benchmarks that people have put together (i.e. Superman= Str 100, Thing = 85, etc.). I could not find them when I searched (my search fu is weak). Does anyone have a benchmark list for Strength and Dex using characters from DC and Marvel? Note: the power level of the benchmark matters less than the internal consistency. Thanks ahead of time for your help and apologies if this ends up as a flame war over whether Batman and Cap are Str 20, 25 or 30.
  17. Re: What Book Should I Buy Next? Not to derail this thread into a Bennie Appreciation Fest, but I must say that one of my particular favorite aspects of the book is when you break down how various items worked in your campaign. It did a lot to (a) provide some ideas, ( make me appreciate you as a GM and © reinforce the organic feel of the world.

  19. Re: The Third Reich's Diabolical Orbiting Superweapon Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
  20. Re: What Book Should I Buy Next? Nope. Not yet. I am still reviewing it and getting my hands around it. It is a large book and has tons of info. My hat is off to Scott for a great piece of work.
  21. Re: What Book Should I Buy Next? Based on some recommendations from here, and some from elsewhere, I opted for Gestalt. I'm very impressed with the book as it is very clearly a labor of love. There are lots of nuances in the world, good art and a neat concept. It is a bit darker at times than is my normal style, but overall I'm very happy with it.
  22. Re: Champion Bay's Silver Avenger If you are interested in tweaking the build beyond what was done in the 4th version, you may want to consider rolling up a lot of these into a weapon harness, gadget belt MP. ie. oif for the MP, oaf for the underlying ones. I would then add a couple of smoke grenades, etc.
  23. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. For what it is worth, I actually like the fact that Storn portrayed her as carrying a lighter saber and long dagger. She strikes me as no less lethal and almost more feral (claws) as a result. Thanks for sharing Storn.
  24. Re: [Campaign] DEFENDERS CONGREGATE!! Anything new on the Defenders front? aka bumpedy bump bump
  25. Re: Has anyone tried this? I would make it AOE, no range, with the SFX that is he flies in a circle covering the area of the AOE. i've done the same thing for speedster characters.
