  1. Re: Is Defender the new Seeker? I don't have Champion 6E yet nor Champions Universe 6E. How much has changed from 5E?
  2. Re: Photographic Reflexes While I agree with your analysis with respect to parasite, Taskmaster not liking to use Moon Knight's style is not a matter of taking on a complication. Rather it is a case that moon knight does not use any levels for DCV and his martial arts maneuvers are all items like offensive strike, etc. As such, when he attacks he has a very high OCV, but low DCV. This is simply reflective of the variety of styles that you can reflect with a small number of maneuvers plus different allocations of levels.
  3. Re: Which older modules are worth running? I LOOOOOVEEEEE To Serve And Protect. Great adventure with the possibility to add some great NPCs to your world and teach your PCs how to use tactics. What's not to love. Great supervillain contest is a bit silly, but I found it a blast (as a 15 year old). I suspect it would not hold up to well today.
  4. Re: Quick Question from a New Hero DNPC is a disad. As such, it is meant to me someone or something that creates complications or problems for your hero. It is not meant to be dependent in the legal or tax sense. Classic examples are that pesky, but plucky, reporter who always finds her/himself captured by aliens, etc. At the end of the day, ask yourself how you see Skeets being involved. Is he there to help Booster? If so, he is a Follower. If his primarily there to create issues for BG, he is a follower. That is not to suggest that your follower can't be put in danger so that they must be saved or that your DNPC can't be helpful. Rather, how do you want the GM to primarily use the character. My memory of skeets from the comic book (back in the day) is that he had more common sense than BG as well as a slew of powers. His role was more that of ally than source of problems. As such, I would make him a follower.
  5. Re: The best Superpet? Not good for your situation, but I've always been partial to Appah, a six legged giant flying bison type thingie...
  6. Re: Heat absorption Or, to keep it simple, a Change Environment with the sfx that he is pulling in heat. If you want to be generous to yourself, put a limitation on the other powers (only when have heat to absorb). the rest is SFX.
  7. Re: Duplication loophole? I don't care if you have 1 or 1000 normals hitting an average super with their mighty 2d6 attacks. They will be unable to do any damage to the average super with a 20def. That said, you will likely get lucky and be able to trip and knock over the super given enough shots. Remember, you are going to have 1 normal dup die each time they are hit with a 12d6 attack and many will be maimed with each 8d6 aoe attack. As someone said earlier, not very heroic.
  8. Re: Aquaman, Hawkman, Ant-Man - how would you run them? I had always assumed that it was a case of summon (only if inhabit area) + mind control. However, you make a very good point. It is probably a more elegant build to make the fish, etc. an SFX for a general power (AOE TK, Blast, etc.) with an activation roll and physical manifestation. If you fail the roll, there are no fish or other animals in the area. If someone blasts the whale they are blasting your physical manifestation. Rep to you for an interesting approach to that power.
  9. Re: How would I model this... If the effect is that the character appears to be a non-descript person that blends in, another way to model it is as invisability with the SFX that they are hiding in plain site because they look like an innocuous third party that the person watching is not worried about. I would add the general pool of limitations for things like Cannot Attack while invisible (i.e. it no longer works when you are being aggressive), etc. All the other stuff is just handwavium.
  10. Re: Female Master Villains Actually, wasn't the brains of the operation Medusa and Mindslayer was the muscle?
  11. Re: Best way to represent a Psionic Symbiote. Help! I think Ice's response about feedback was putting Feedback on a follower. I've never seen that before and, to be honest, had never considered it. One way to get that effect would be to give mind link with feedback to the follower and primary character.
  12. Re: My replacement for Find Weakness Elegant solution. I like it. Actually, I was never a fan of FW, so I actually like it more than the original. I never liked the stacking element of FW and this feels to be a better approximation of finding a soft spot... you do more damage, but it does not allow you to use a pencil to carve open a bank vault if you make your roll enough times. What value do you give the limitation that hitting the roll exactly is 2 levels, by 2, 4, etc.? Reminds me that I need to brush up on levels for DCs etc.
  13. Re: Best way to represent a Psionic Symbiote. Help! I actually agree with JMOZ on this one. Duplication (different characteristics) seems like it is the way to go. I would analogize it to the version they have of the hydra (multiple heads as independent duplicates), attached to the same body, just in this case the duplicates are radically different. I think that Killer Shrike had a luck based character that was done as a linked duplicate that can serve as a mechanical proxy for the idea (though the power set and personality are way off.
  14. Re: LETS DO IT AGAIN: Arguing over characteristics I don't have Champions 6E, but I shouldn't that be the first data point of the new era (other than Taurus, et al in the 6E book)... what do the dex and ocv / dcv spreads look like in it?
  15. Re: LETS DO IT AGAIN: Arguing over characteristics LOL.
  16. Re: LETS DO IT AGAIN: Arguing over characteristics The concept above is why I have grown to like the concept of damage negation (I haven't used it in a game yet, so I don't have a strong feeling if the mechanic works - but I love the concept). One concern with traditional defenses was that if you got hit by the cop / thug, you could lose the stun lotto and get knocked out. This means that you would jack Dex and Spd inorder to make sure that you had a DCV that would avoid getting hit. With damage negation, you can definitive know that certain attacks from normals will have no impact and therefore do not have the same DCV needs. As such, it would suggest that the Thing rocky hide, Colossus's steel body, and Sue Richard's forcefield were all a mix of rDef + Damage Negation. It also takes discipline on the part of the GM to not overly upgrade "normal" weapons. I was surprised when I read through the Viper source book how many ridiculously powerful weapons were available for Viper Squads and that even some of the standard weapons could put heros down. If you don't want the supers to fear agents and thugs, you have to accept lower DC standards.
  17. Re: The Bare Bones of the Beast 6th edition what is the sfx of your unified power on Dex OCV and DCV? I am not sure the dex calc is right... it would mean that your dex would go to 0 in the triggered stituation.

  19. Re: Wouldnt want to meet that guy. I fall back on the perennial problem of the "pubic id"
  20. Re: Fox War Journal...Urban Champions game Out of curiousity, what is your motivation for breaking Dex into two stats? I do like MD as characteristic and agree with 25 as the NCM stat.

    Dice Roller

Re: Dice Roller I think the HD roller is good, but I think the To Hit function is a little off. When it comes to hit locations, it applies the OCV modifier to the to hit roll. As such, a -4 OCV roll, with a Die Roll of 14 is treated as if you rolled a 10 rather than an 18. However, this might be an old update.
  22. Re: Examples of Damage Negation I actually underestimated the cost benefit of Damage Negation. Because DN eliminates KB as well (KB is calculated on the post DN roll, not the pre-dice). This means that on average each DC of DN is worth an additional 1cp of KB. Note that this benefit only occurs for those DCs of DN that eliminate KB. In a standard CU campaign with 12DC attacks and a character that is standing, on average there should be 5" (or 10mm) of KB. This means that the player would, on average, get the KB benefit for the first 5 DCs of DN, but not for 6-12. Rapier - You could actually mirror the shunt concept by putting an additional limit on the DN to "only to 1/4 of DCs of attack", so with an 8dc attack, the DN would be 2DCs, at 12Dcs, 3, about 12Dcs it would stick at 3. All that said, I like the grounding sfx.
  23. Re: Examples of Damage Negation Thanks for your comments. Good food for thought. based on your comment, I did a quick back of the envelope calculation. I think that damage negation is pretty fairly priced at 5CP per DC. On average 1Dc will do 3.5 Stun and 1 body. 3.5 of resistant def costs 5.25CP (1.5 per 1 Def). This means that DN will always be better (on average) in dealing with Stun Damage. Where it falls down is on Body protection. For example, assume you spend 30 CP on def. That would buy either 6DC of DN or 20 Def. The 20 DEF will not take body until 20+Dcs of damage. The DN will start taking damage at 7DCs. As such, unless you have another layered defense or some regeneration, it could get bloody quickly. However, with the benefit for AVAD and some drains, it seems, after more analysis, like a pretty fair power. BTW, I really like the "immunity" type powers you both threw up.
  24. Re: Sonic Mesmerization power - a sonic mind control Have you thought about going with a different power to get to the effect that you want. My thought is that it sounds like what you want is +X Pre (only to distract). If you add that with images (Sound) only to enhance volume, it effectively creates the AOE that you are looking at and gets you to where you want to go. Just a thought.
  25. I have been reading through 6E and spending some time mulling over Damage Negation. Have any of you used in for your characters? What sort of effects are you focusing on? How effective / ineffective has it been in play? I like to concept, but am afraid that I am stuck in my 5E way of looking at things and keep jumping over it as an ability when building out characters. I would love to hear your examples of its use / lack of use.
