  1. Re: Power Suit examples A focus that provides defenses has the DEF of whatever defense it gives. In the case of the Monolith armor, that would be 16/16 PD/ED from the armor and a total of 33/33 PD/ED if the force field is also running. Kelcyron

  4. Re: HCPD - The 13th District (Campaign Idea) Another similarly-themed TV show, though with a comedic bent, was Special Unit 2. Sci-Fi has been showing it recently. Kelcyron

  6. Re: Subspace Engine Design Help [HERO: Combat Evolved] I think the massive damage from Regret's slipspace jump was purely because it was initiated inside an atmosphere. Which is probably why the power FTL travel specifically says it can't be used inside an atmosphere. It seems like the jump from Earth to Installation 05 took very little time. Maybe it was because Regret generated the slipspace rupture and has much better engines than UNSC ships, or maybe the jumps take less time than we think. Or maybe, as JMS put it, they just move at "the speed of plot". Kelcyron
  7. Re: Characteristic Maxima thoughts While it has been proposed that for certain genres the "normal human" and "normal human max" might be lower, I'd also put forth the notion that anyone becoming "PC" grade is "special" (even if not superhuman) and thus not quite so subject to what "normal" is for the genre at hand. In other words, even if 'normal people' max out at 13, "special" people (PC's) still have the systemic characteristic max of 20. Kelcyron
  8. Re: Richest Man in the World Disease This may be off topic, but I'm confused by something. How does one character use another character's gadget pool without the character who has the pool knowing it? Sure, the character with the pool can hand out the Foci created with the pool, but he/she is the one who controls the pool and thus should be the only one able to change the pool configuration at all. 9. Re: Richest Man in the World Disease Except that this isn't a game about real life. It's a game about superheros, men and women with powers and abilities far beyond those of normal men, often even in their everyday lives. Clark Kent isn't "just a reporter", he's a world-famous pulitzer prize winning journalist. When people make their characters, they often want to live vicarously through their characters a little and have things that their normal lives don't include. People also frequently buy wealth so they don't have to deal with the minutae of their character's daily life (how do I justify saving the world without jepordizing my job?). My last character, Slipstream, was a power-armor wearer with a lot of tech skills. He went to Miskatonic U (yes, it was superheros with Mythos) and after a lab 'accident' he suddenly UNDERSTOOD things which gave him the knowledge of the power core for his armor. He worked for a large international company for a few years and developed a "production model" version of the armor for them (about 50+50 points) and his suit was the fully functional version. He had 5 points of wealth (basic millionaire status) living off the royalties for the armor from the company, and spent his time saving the world and doing the occasional guest lectures on dimensional physics at universities. 10. Re: Dark Champions Doom Patrol! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_Patrol Morrison's run was surreal, but great fun. I'm not familiar with the runs prior to his work on it, but it's similar material. Kelcyron
  11. Re: What would your inner geek pick? If we're talking purely about translating the real world me into a Champions character and I get to pick everything about it, I'd actually go with 250 + 30ish points in disads. I wouldn't choose to have the burdens that high-powered heros have (evil geniuses wanting to kill me, parents murdered in a dark alley, girlfriend murdered and stuffed in a refrigerator, etc), or to have the huge resposibilities that they have. I'd still want to live my life, just live it a bit better. I'd idealize myself somewhat (correcting the obvious physical issues), pump my stats to a high yet reasonable level, and pick up a bit of wealth to live comfortably. Kelcyron

  14. Re: Accesable ot Inaccesable focus? Only if you take "X charges total for reserve" on the reserve pool. You can take take charges on the individual slots and have each slot have it's own set of charges. Kelcyron
  15. Re: [Worst Ever...] Reasons to be a superhero This was actually used on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. After Sisko and some others went back in time to the Bell riots in 21st century earth, Gabriel Bell (leader of the riots and a very important historical figure) was killed in the riots and Sisko took his place. The 5 crew members who were there know what happened and know why Sisko's face appears in the history books as "Gabriel Bell" but no one else knows about the change. Kelcyron
  16. Re: Rationalize this.... You found something distateful and created a house rule of "don't do that". There's nothing in the actual rules that says it's illegal. As AmadanNaBriona pointed out, you can only put lims on 5 point levels or higher (probably due to wishing to avoid too much roundoff bonus). The device listed above from G&G use 8 point levels, making it perfectly legal. I've never bought levels through a focus myself as I prefer to have my characters be able to do something even without their toys, but if it's appropriate to the build then it is a valid construction. Kelcyron
  17. Re: Rationalize this.... Where on earth does it say that you shouldn't buy levels through a focus? Gadgets & Gear has the Combat Analyzer (p55) which includes, among other things, +2 with all combat, OIF. Kelcyron
  18. Re: Skinning cats 1) If you're refering to D&D wands crumbling when the last charge is used, I hadn't even considered that when I was writing that. I was refering to the VERY old joke of using a power lim to get a gross/humorous incidental benefit. 2) In that vein, it could just as easily have been written instead of OAF as being "Side effect, destroys the planetary body you're standing on" (whatever that limitation would be, probably -1/2 or -1).
  19. Re: Culmulative Entangle? As soon as the entangle hits, you get a casual strength roll to break out. Grond, with his STR of 90, gets to roll 9 dice against the 1def/1body entangle and breaks out without thinking about it. On average, Grond rolls 9 body with his 45 casual strength and breaks out of a 45 active (5def, 4d6) entangle without really even realizing he's been entangled. 45 strength, 45 active entangle. Nice symmetry. Kelcyron
  20. Re: Transformer's Spark From what I recall of Beast Wars (which I didn't see much of) sparks only leave/change bodies when the individual dies (they generally don't go body-hopping, Starscream notwithstanding). I'd almost say to use it as a plot device when a character dies to have the same personality/skills on the new character. Kelcyron
  21. Re: Does this make ANY sense? There are 2 reasons to buy 5-point skill levels with int (or pre) skills instead of just buying up the stat: 1) NCM (either due to heroic setting or taking the disad) 2) "Concept". If your character concept is someone who's not too bright (or charismatic) then buying up the stat isn't the right thing to do. Other than that, there's no reason not to buy up the stat instead of buying levels. Kelcyron
  22. Re: A new advantage for EGO attack Flipping about halfway through CKC looking at the ego and con scores, it looks like most non-mentalists are in the 20-40 range for con but only the 10-20 range for ego. I'd say that the "use ego instead of con for stunning" should probably be at least +3/4 (along the lines of double knockback) if not +1 (essentially another level of BOECV). I'm a player and not a GM, but I'd consider that to be fair ruling on it from the GM if I had wanted to use that ability. Kelcyron
  23. Re: Help with a design 1) Multiform to change into the person being possessed, -- plus -- 2) linked EDM UAA which sends them to some pocket dimension, side effect that they see/feel everything that you're doing with "their" body (-0); defense is not having a mind or more mental defense than the base points of the EDM {requiring the full active points of the UAA'ed EDM would be too harsh} You send them away and then "change into" them and they see and feel everything as if they were still actually there, which I believe what you were trying to do. Element 1 may require a multiform-only VPP, as you'll need a different multiform for each person you "possess" (or a generous GM who allows you to buy a large number of multiple forms and keep some of them "open") Kelcyron
  24. Re: Do PSL vs Hit Locations Unablance the Game? One thing we did in our supers game, and this can be applied to just about any tactic, is "what's good for the goose is good for the gander". If the PC's can do it, the monsters/villains/etc can do it too. The first time it came up in-game, the GM said that he would only have the villains use it if the PC's used it, and only against the PC that did it.. Something we always consider before trying something new/crazy/super-effective is "Do we want them to be able to do it too?" and if the answer is no we come up with something else. Kelcyron
