  1. Re: When your superhero group became powerful enough to rule the world? Part of it was i went a little to iron age in the major opening sequence, and the characters was extremely good guy and a little too judgmental (think the bad paladin stories that you have heard). His background really fit the approach he was going to take (he was taking over for everyone's best interests). So it was me misreading the character, and because I knew a good chunk of what happened was because I screwed up, I just dropped it. I hadn't GMed in a while and was feeling a little insecure.
  2. Re: When your superhero group became powerful enough to rule the world? They actually pulled back from doing more active superheroing on earth... they still hit big stuff (Warlord, Istavha Vahn, Eurostar, Mechanon), but many of the things they did were in space. They basically turned into the JLA. I had one character who decided to try and take over the world (sorta turn villian, become a dictator in a banana republic for a while to build a power base and take everything over with huge high tech and a supers friendly set of laws). I shut the game down because of it. That just wasn't something I want to GM. Now part of the reason the character decided to do that was based on some stuff I did as a GM that was basically not very good - I rolled some 17s and 18s on GM roll. So the fault was as much mine as anything. I wanted the team to be the JLA, not the Authority, and made that clear up front.
  3. Re: Your Gaming Group's Jargon Some others we use (in addition to the post I made years ago).... Mach-stick. We had a speedster (named Mach) who had 36" of combat movement. We have Yardsticks with the range penalties marked on them. Anytime someone needs the yardstick, we call it the mach-stick.
  4. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? That was the song that made me fall in love with the band. I was 10 or 11, and I had an uncle play that for me. It got to the "Now I know" and it just circled the speakers and I was hooked. Night at the opera was the first adult record I ever bought (I bought some disney spoken word things before that). Queen was the first band I ever listened to, and remains my favorite band to this day. As for me - Ultrasonic Sound - Hive (from the Matrix Soundtrack)
  5. Re: The Joker Scenario For pretty much all of my characters for the first scenario - they'd drop him. He was created and a supernatural evil - that means no protection. He is an interloper in this world/dimension. Black Cat would not kill Caine. She was possessed by her powers a long time ago, and while in that state killed someone. When she was back to her right mind she turned herself in, and pleaded no contest. She doesn't kill because superheroes are not the legal authority to do such things. Breaking the law in that case is the same as murder. However, right now she works for an interdimensional agency, who are, in effect, the law in certain situations. If she ran into Caine on one of her missions for them, and it was within her parvenu to take him out, she would. The formal legalities here make a lot of difference to her - a person can be executed by the state, a person can be killed by an agent that has a license to kill by the government, but a private citizen can't (well, except in the case of extreme self defense) Ballstic would not kill him. He is an ex cop and feels a lot like Black Cat does. However if the DNPC tortured and killed was his fiance I really don't know what he would do - I'd actually have to play through and see what I felt the character would do. In the past he had a different fiance, and a superagency that worked for him - and they were all killed in a big invasion scenario. He fled to space for a couple of years to clear his mind. He came back, and wasn't expecting to find love again - if his new fiance was killed... he might go off the edge and kill the perp. Sift would not kill. She doesn't see that as part of the code. She might turn him over to her boyfriend (the Sorcerer Supreme to be of the planet). Meeb would probably be for killing the guy, depending on what the rest of the team would do. They have taken exetreme sanctions a few times. Terminal Velocity wouln't kill the dude, but would be really really torn up about it. When things like this happen, he doesn't really react with anger, he gets all depressed and goes and spends weeks dealing with it in solitude (although being a speeds the weeks usually only takes a few hours. )
  6. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Good Morning Girl - Shaun Cassidy
  7. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I've read Twilight and about 2/3 of the way through New Moon. Pretty decent. A nice light read, and interesting takes on Werewolves (her descriptions of the change is among the best I've read). For all the mocking the stuff gets for Sparkly Vampires, it's actually pretty good.
  8. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Shoot the Runner - Kasabian (from my "Songs I have in Rock Band" mix)
  9. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Good Girls Go to Heaven (Bad Girls go Everywhere) - Pandora's Box. Pandora's Box was a band with female vocalists put together by Jim Steinman. They had one album. It didn't go anywhere so the band folded. About half of the songs on it ended up on Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell by Meatloaf.
  10. Re: Quotes from Owlcon - part 5 We listen to it every Thanksgiving here at our house. I've been doing that since '85 or so.
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Is this question directed at me? Or the ongoing Alice's Resturant discussion (and Obie looked at his 8x10 color glossy pictures....)
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... The team has gotten some serious info on Viper, including the identity of the supreme serpent (using 4th ed rules). It is announced that the Supreme Serpent is an AI. Locomotive says "Can we Hack it to death?" (Cold fire has a "stroke of genius" spell put on her adding 25 int, and a telepath sharing his mind with the computer person - a succor Int of +29 in addition to the spell) - Coldfire, hacking the Viper database and shairng the above information: The Supreme Serpent is an Artificial Intelligence. To which Locomotive (who's player is in fine form tonight) responds "Aren't you?"
  13. Re: Monster Island Yeah. Those "computer game" moments were just a little annoying on reading it - the book itself is very very good. And Destroyer wasn't as bad (although I could see it there too).
  14. Re: Monster Island Good point. I really liked this book overall, but the thing I really didn't like was that it didn't feel like a normal sourcebook for an RPG, it felt like a sourcebook adapted from another source - nominally a video game. You have the different colors of the same creature each getting tougher, in the bases. You have specific locations to clean out - obvious locations or instances. It wasn't bad enough that it ruined the book by any means, but I could really feel a difference in style between it and non-adapted sourcebooks.
  15. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Girl U Want - Devo
  16. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Night world is the last book in the universe (aside from some loose ties to his Scifi stuff), so the author really lets things happen.
  17. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Sorry it took so long to respond - missed the post. Umm.... not exactly. It is changed though, drastically.
  18. Re: 6th Ed Champions Universe Well Steve has said in interviews (and / or podcasts) that he will kill figured characteristics, change movement to meters. So those are likely a done deal. I am waiting for 6th to see exactly what changes are made. But those two are fairly certain.
  19. Re: Jokes A band I really like from Scotland had, early in their career had a gig in LA, and a gig in Denver the next day, and figured they could drive it no problem, with extra time to setup..... Or to use the old saw "An American thinks 300 years is a long time, the British think 300 miles is a long way"
  20. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? YYZ - Rush (from my "the songs I have in Rock Band" mix)
  21. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? We Are Glass - Gary Numan. Off the Telekon Album (1980). I've been struggling with my depression of late, and I seem to listen to Gary when I get depressed. Especially this album. I know when I listen to him a lot my wife starts noticing and asking how I am feeling.
  22. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Things went badly. The restaurant was destroyed, and the targets escaped. That kind of thing happens with a despotic government who has control of the news. The spin was going to be something about evil un-licensed superpowered people wreaking havoc. It was a dystopian present alternate world game.
  23. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine That was the origin story of the campaign - I was going to have the heroes all there (for one reason or another) and the government forces detected multiple superpowered individuals. They attacked to either "recruit" or kill them (the Government tried to control all superhumans). That was the event that brought them together, set them up as fugitives, and set them on a course to do something about the government.
