  1. Tell us more about Void and Phlogiston. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary looks forward to spirited discussion
  2. What do you call an Ulronai criminal? Redundant. Lucius Alexander What do you call an Ulronai palindromedary?
  3. I know at least one backer that, last I checked, never DID get their product. Lucius Alexander Maybe the palindromedary ate it.
  4. Well, yes, it simulates making people not need food by giving them food to eat. That's the Special Effect. Hungry? Here, eat this. Now you're not hungry anymore. If I were building a device to supply oxygen so that a character can survive an environment without it (maybe by deriving oxygen from exhaled carbon dioxide) would you agree with Life Support for that, or would you say it should be Transform to create oxygen? In any case, if you think a spell that makes people not need food by giving them food to eat should cost more than a spell that makes people not need food in some other way, I have to say that I wonder why. I suppose I just don't understand that. Lucius Alexander Let them eat palindromedaries
  5. So if I snap my fingers he turns into a vile and powerful fiend, and if I snap my fingers again the fiend becomes a confused and cowering mortal, ordinary except for having been chosen as the unwilling vessel of this unholy power? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary doesn't like the sound of that
  6. It's an excellent point, and I only wish I had made it. Lucius Alexander Rolling low to get to the other side of the palindromedary
  7. I think you have the right level of Indirect, but I'm not sure if it should go on the Stretching or on the STRength. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary is in two minds about it
  8. I'm not sure what you mean by a statistical reason. I have not had much difficulty teaching anyone to low roll for success. In my experience people don't have a problem with that but do have an issue with the character creation. Something to bear in mind is that Hero success rolls are built around a bell curve in a way that D&D for example is not. If my chance to succeed is 8 or less that "looks like" about a 40% chance but is closer to 25%.If it's 12 or less, that looks like only 60% but is actually closer to 75%. If you will only fail on an 18, that's not a 5% chance of failure, it's not a 1% chance of failure, it is less than one half of one percent chance to fail. Another result of this is that bonuses and penalties, whether from Skill Levels, circumstances, or what have you, count for a lot if you're near the middle of the bell curve but much less if you're towards the extremes. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary predicts the mathematicians will be here soon enough.
  9. I think we have a case here of everyone agreeing in what they mean, but disagreeing in how to say it. Lucius Alexander Can we agree on a palindromedary tagline here?
  10. In the Turakian Age, everybody hates the Ulronai. It's a rule. If you have a group of people everyone hates, there will surely be jokes about them. I'd like to hear suggestions for Ulronai jokes. I'll start. Q: How many Ulronai does it take to light a candle? A: Why would they light a candle when they can sneak up on you in the dark? Q: Why did the evil wizard hire a bunch of Ulronai mercenaries? A: There are some things that Orcs just won't do. Q: Why did the baron hire all the Ulronai males in his realm to tend his flock of sheep? A; Hey, if they're flocking with the sheep they're not flocking their own women and making more Ulronai! Q: Why should you never make fun of Ulronai to their faces? A: I don't know about you but I don't want to be close enough to one to look them in the face. Q: Why did the chicken cross the road? A: He saw an Ulronai coming. Q: Why did the jester take off in such a hurry? A: He saw the Ulronai coming too! Lucius Alexander Why are there Ulronai in the tagline? They're probably trying to steal the palindromedary.
  11. "Usable Nearby" and "Recoverable Charge" both have some flexibility built into them, in my view. You could easily justify purifying more food than if you were just creating it. Lucius Alexander Purify palindromedary taglines
  12. I'll see your 30 man ship and raise you to 6 ship fleet of 30 man ships. Note the bolded words below. It would take some time and effort, but with this power I can feed the whole fleet. Each deckhand may get only one meal a day but it will be a filling meal. Lucius Alexander Create palindromedary tagline
  13. A sword is an Obvious Accessible Focus, and a sword can be sheathed. Or is the question, can it be sheathed and still function? Even then, I don't see a problem. If it is Obvious and Accessible when in use it meets the requirements even if it's not taking up "handspace." Lucius Alexander Obvious Inaccessible Palindromedary
  14. One of the Advanced Players Guides - pretty sure the first one - has a Possession Power. Otherwise, I'd suggest building it with Mind Control and perhaps Linked Telepathy. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary notes that Possession is 9/10 of the Loa.
  15. That's my preference. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary agrees
  16. My proposed build had Variable Special Effects specifically because it's one Power Build incorporating several possible "spells." Want to find edible food in the wilderness? Check. Want to slice a small loaf of bread so it feeds 16 even though there's only enough left for 8? Check. Want to purify food that's gone bad or is suspect? Check. Want to literally conjure a meal out of your hat? Check. You can define each of these feats as "separate spells" and still represent them as a single Power Build. Lucius Alexander Feeding a palindromedary
  17. Now I think of it, just use Multiform without Personality Loss, and just put Enraged as one of the Complications on the alternate character sheet. Lucius Alexander Invoking a palindromedary
  18. What do I think? I think you have expressed yourself so obscurely that after reading this several times I am still not sure I have understood what you are trying to say. I'm going to try restating what it is I think you said and you can tell me if I seem to understand. You have said (I think) "I want my character to have a spell that causes him to be possessed by, or to be in contact with and accessing some of the powers of, an Other Entity (God, ghost, spirit, demon, or just another aspect of himself that he experiences as separate from his normal waking consciousness.) While in this state the character may exercise certain powers and abilities otherwise unavailable, but must struggle with 'the Other' for control of his own actions, a struggle similar to the way someone using the Summon Power must engage in a contest of wills (EGO vs EGO) to compel the summoned being to perform a set of tasks. The character's Self and the Other are equal or near equal in terms of will (same EGO score.)When the Other is in control it may compel the character to commit violence." Assuming I have understood, here are some suggestions. The simplest, if you only want to have a few Powers involved, is to give the Powers a Required Roll (if you imagine an EGO vs EGO struggle between two equal EGOs then essentially you're imagining something close to a straight roll of 11 or less) and with Side Effects: Enraged/Berserk. Another option, if you are wanting Attack Powers, is to use Variable Limitation with one set of Limitations being extra END cost (the effort of will) plus a Roll of 11 or less, and if the roll fails default to the alternate Limitation of No Conscious Control at the -1 level, as the Power activates but does what the Other wants, not what the character wants. I also thought of the Limitation Only in Alternate ID. That Limitation requires there be something problematic or inconvenient about changing identities, and having to argue with yourself about what you're doing seems problematic to me. And finally, look at Multiform with the Limitation of Personality Loss, if you want your character to risk getting completely lost in and subsumed by the alternate personality. It might be a good idea in that case to also take Reversion, so you can revert to normal if knocked out, or give the alternate form some kind of Accidental Change Complication (perhaps when you are called by your True Name) or otherwise insure your character doesn't become an NPC permanently. If I haven't understood what you're talking about, none of this may apply. Lucius Alexander Invoking a palindromedary
  19. Something simple? Lucius Alexander But not palindromedaries
  20. Perhaps, instead of Aid, you can buy the Characteristics you want with a Limitation that they only become active after you have Drained someone and then only up to the amount Drained, and a Limitation that they fade as the Drained points fade. Lucius Alexander Fading out with a palindromedary
  21. You wouldn't. A Sense doesn't lift and control objects. But if you want to explore your immediate environment with a hundred invisible fingertips, even on the other side of a wall, I suggest buying Range and Penetrative with Touch. Lucius Alexander A hundred invisible palindromedaries
  22. .Create Food and Drink: (Total: 3 Active Cost, 1 Real Cost) Life Support (Eating: Character only has to eat once per week), Variable Special Effects (Any SFX; +1/2), Usable Nearby (+3/4), Grantor pays the END whenever the power is used (3 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Minute, Only to Activate, -3/4), Time Limit (1 Day; -1/4), Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4), Variable Limitations (requires -1/2 worth of Limitations; -1/4), 1 Recoverable Continuing Charge lasting 1 Day (+3/4) (Real Cost: 1) Lucius Alexander Create palindromedary tagline
  23. You can buy the Adjacent Sense Modifier for Normal Touch for 3 pts and for Touch Group for 5. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says this enables you to perceive from a point up to 2 meters from yourself.
  24. I had a vague idea of allowing it to do knockback damage instead of or in addition to STR damage. But it's probably better to trim that Advantage off as cruft. Throw: (Total: 9 Active Cost, 3 Real Cost) Flight 1m, Position Shift, Usable As Attack (+1/2), Grantor pays the END whenever the power is used, Grantor can only grant the power to others (9 Active Points); Cannot Use Targeting (-1/2), Instant (-1/2), Can Be Deflected (-1/4), no Noncombat movement (-1/4), Only In Contact With A Surface (-1/4) (Real Cost: 3) Lucius Alexander Feed it to the palindromedary
  25. There are a number of ways to do Throw. Remember, Trip is a standard maneuver now. So Throw: (Total: 2 Active Cost, 2 Real Cost) +1 with Trip (Real Cost: 2) But there are other ways Throw: (Total: 10 Active Cost, 3 Real Cost) Flight 1m, Position Shift, Does Knockback (+1/4), Usable As Attack (+1/2), Grantor pays the END whenever the power is used, Grantor can only grant the power to others (10 Active Points); Cannot Use Targeting (-1/2), Instant (-1/2), Can Be Blocked/Deflected (-1/4), no Noncombat movement (-1/4), Only In Contact With A Surface (-1/4), Cannot Hover (must move at least 2m per Phase; -1/4) (Real Cost: 3) Throw: (Total: 12 Active Cost, 4 Real Cost) Change Environment (-4 to Characteristic Roll or Skill Roll) (12 Active Points); Cannot Use Targeting (-1/2), No Range (-1/2), Instant (-1/2), Limited Power Target may choose between: STR roll, DEX roll, Breakfall, or Acrobatics (-1/2), Can Be Deflected (-1/4) (Real Cost: 4) And even a way to do STR damage with it. Throw Damage: (Total: 3 Active Cost, 2 Real Cost) Hand-To-Hand Attack +1 point, Trigger (Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action to reset; Trigger Condition: Successful Throw attack; +1/2) (3 Active Points); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/4) (Real Cost: 2) Lucius Alexander The palindromedary adds that there's also Grab and Throw
