  1. Thank you. Lucius Alexander Palindromedary, Costs END only to Activate
  2. That may be what I am looking FOR, but it is not what I am right now looking AT. Lucius Alexander Making the palindromedary happy
  3. I see the point about not taking damage. Why do you say 0 DCV when the rules say taking a recovery puts a character at half DCV? Obviously, And obviously no one can put an Advantage on an action. I can't put the Uncontrolled Advantage on the Strike maneuver, either. I CAN put an Uncontrolled Advantage on an Attack Power, such as STR, and then hit someone with it using the Strike maneuver. Lucius Alexander the palindromedary says I forgot someone
  4. Uncontrolled is an Advantage that lets me use a Power, including whatever requisites the Power has - expend a half phase and make an Attack roll for example for an Attack Power - and then get the benefit of the Power phase after phase, with the caveat that there is some way for someone else to "turn it off." Is there any reason I'm not seeing why I can't put Uncontrolled on RECovery, take a recovery, and then regain that REC value each phase thereafter? Lucius Alexander I already have the palindromedary's opinions
  5. This came up just recently in a game I was running, but as it was a case of someone being grabbed by a mastodon and held upside, I just used the standard Grab penalties - half OCV and half DCV. But that's a special case. Fighting upside down sounds awkward, but so does fighting someone who IS upside down. Perhaps a case should be made that as long as the character has a reasonable way to dangle that way, there should be no penalties at all? Especially if it has relevant Skills like Acrobatics. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary threatens to hang ME updside down if I don't get busy on that game I'm supposed to run tomorrow....
  6. I love the way you tie characters together. Lucius Alexander the palindromedary clarifies that was meant metaphorically
  7. Stormwalker: Create updrafts over the whole city drawing the mist up into the upper atmosphere and sucking clean air in from around the city. Upon finding the cauldron: "I can't be agreen' with this, you've mist the point of the holy day" and proceeds to summon rain to douse the fire then looks for a lid to the pot, dealing with any cultic resistance appropriately "You think you scare me? You should see my grandma. You should see my Dad. In fact, _I_ should see my Dad, but...drop that athame before someone gets hurt. See what I mean? now you got hurt..." Lucius Alexander Is this a real palindromedary or someone who was wearing a palindromedary costume?
  8. That's got to be some kind of joke....right? Lucius Alexander If that's the Joker, I'm a palindromedary
  9. Wish I could remember where I found that image Lucius Alexander God of palindromedaries
  10. Lucius Alexander Unlimited palindromedaries
  11. For reasons best known to himself, John Templar fights crime and otherwise seeks to do good as the costumed martial artist Freedomsong, but he is also called The Paladin of the Streets. He has saved the life of more than one critically injured person with apparently paranormal healing abilities, and escaped ambushes and deathtraps with miraculous good fortune. John knows that Somebody Up There Loves him. Somebody Up There Listens. And it terrifies him. He has a woman he's courting, he has dreams of fostering children from the orphanage he volunteers at, he likes taking a night off for beer and darts once in a while, he has a LIFE of his own. And that is why, so far, he has withheld his consent, his commitment - the one thing required to make him a perfect vessel of angelic power. For as far as he knows, it could be a one way transformation; once the Archangel manifests, once truly invoked rather than evoked, it will be "Thy will, not mine" that is done, and he may never get his own life back. Make me an instrument of Thy peace: Multiform (750 Character Points in the most expensive form) (150 Active Points); 1 Charge (Recovers Under Limited Circumstances (at the Will of a Higher Power); -3), Personality Loss First Roll After 1 Turn (-2), Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (New form has 150 pts of Complications; -2), Conditional Power Only in dire need (And cannot be OWN need; for example, not merely to save own life; -1), No Conscious Control (Only Effects cannot be controlled; -1), Concentration (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -3/4), Extra Time (Full Phase, Only to Activate, Delayed Phase, -1/2), Conditional Power Requires a state of Grace (-1/4) Real Cost: 13 Lucius Alexander Answering to a Higher Palindromedary
  12. What game was that? Wait...this isn't the gaming quotes thread is it....? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary whispers to me that the Professor has spent too many hours staring deeply into the infinite abyss of the outer spaces, seeking to pry into the secret mysteries of alien suns....
  13. Daredevil's Billy Club Lucius Alexander The palindromedary wants to join Billy's Daredevil Club
  14. Why's it so dead in here? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary still hopes someone will turn up with the lyrics to "Caravan"
  15. Ran into this while browsing around when I should be doing something useful, didn't remember seeing it linked here before, and thought if I posted it I might be doing something useful after all. http://www.terminally-incoherent.com/blog/2014/09/04/lets-have-a-serious-talk-about-gamer-culture/ Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says there are specific useful things I need to do, TODAY, that don't involve the internet, so I'm getting offline before it gets really testy with me.
  16. You're a hard act to follow, Doctor. Somewhat on the topic of limiting Healing, I have always been inclined to allow Regeneration based builds for "fast healer" or "cinematic healing." I just now checked the rules and if Regeneration takes the Charges Limitation, it apparently does NOT require the Charges to be "Continuing" to cover the time the Regeneration takes. But requiring that might be one way to allow Regeneration for heroically tough characters, but still keep it somewhat in check. I was interested in what you all might think of it. While I'm at it, how do you see Regeneration interacting with the Impairing and Disabling rules?
  17. As the more Human members of the team try to pump the pawnbroker for information, Can Opener (think something that looks a little like an R2D2 style robot) quietly humming to himself, trundles around, eventually wandering behind the counter, finding the safe, and of course opening it(having a compulsion to open things, and an ability to open ANYTHING.) "Hey neat can! What's this you keep inside it? What? No, no take contents, no damage can, see, it's made to open and close!" (Closes the safe again.) "If your can, why you not know it resealable? This can can re-can!" Lucius Alexander The palindromedary notes that to Can Opener anything that can be opened is a can, and sometimes it's a can of worms.
  18. Eagle Eye has two significant powers; "Eagle Eyes" is the ability to see clairvoyantly from several different perception points at once (and one is always focused on the place where Shibalba connects with this world) and "Wind Whisper" is the power to telepathically send a message to any known, identified person, which will usually be a member of the team. Eagle Eye is not a specific individual person; whoever dons the costume of the Kachina, Eagle Eye, becomes Eagle Eye, but there is always someone standing the vigil, except for the short times when one has stepped out of the role and the next is still assuming it (there are necessary ceremonies to ensure this happens safely and effectively.) The secret initiatory society that fulfills this role even takes care to vary the lengths of their "shifts" just in case the Hand ever figure out there are times when no one is watching and try to learn the schedule. Because the evil ones are stealthy and subtle, Eagle Eye must be alert or they will slip through unnoticed regardless, so no one is permitted to watch more than 24 hrs at a time. Even with the special teas they brew to improve alertness, no one can stand guard that long and remain sharp. Most of the Thunderbirds do not know where the Eagle Eye Kiva is, or who is in the secret society, and prefer it that way - safer for everyone. They do know that when Eagle Eye contacts them, it is not always the same person speaking, but is always the same Kachina speaking through them. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary thinks Louis L'amour may have gotten some ideas from Lovecraft's story "The Mound."
  19. This thread is bringing out some brilliant responses! Rose really helped me see into the implications of the power described. The Darkness has a really valuable insight - that the power as described means a MORE accurate character is LESS likely to hit this character, precisely because they are more likely to hit what they are aiming at - and what they are aiming at is not actually the character. To really simulate a displacer beast, you need Images or perhaps Images and Invisibility. Its opponents are probably at first going to think they're dealing with Desolidification, although they should figure out quickly it's not that once in melee (seeing the image strike where no one is, but feeling the blow that seemed to land over there in empty air, should be a clue.) Lucius Alexander Where'd it go? I seem to have displaced my palindromedary
  20. So after the vampire TELLS him "I'm a new Durkon" he finally figures out "Hey, it's not my old friend Durkon!" So is he now about to take the "Un" out of "Undead?" Lucius Alexander The palindromedary predicts that the vampire, the Godsmoot, and the plans of Hel, are about to be greenly Disrupted
  21. I put the Trigger condition in the Power description. If there's a place it's supposed to go in the Power build, I didn't see where Hero Designer asked for it. You may have a point about Incantations, but one could make a case that that is part of "setting up" the trigger, just as placing a trip wire for a more conventional trap doesn't mean you take "Gestures." On the other hand, setting a trigger is not something you usually do in combat....if I had it to do over I'd probably include the Incantations Limitation. And making it Area Effect may seem overkill, but I wanted it to reduce a healer's ability to heal and that pretty much requires the Radius - also, without it the curse needs to make an Attack Roll to work even on the victim. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary suggests finding a way to put the curse on a bow and fire accursed arrows
  22. Accursed Wounds of the Blades of Tharex: (Total: 65 Active Cost, 18 Real Cost) Drain BODY & REC & Regeneration & Healing 1d6, Attack Versus Alternate Defense (Being already accursed, undead, demonic, or unholy; All Or Nothing; +0), Area Of Effect (4m Radius; +1/4), Difficult To Dispel (x2 Active Points; +1/4), Trigger (Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger resets automatically, immediately after it activates, Trigger can expire (it has a time limit); +1/2), Cumulative (12 points; +3/4), Expanded Effect (x4 Characteristics or Powers simultaneously) (+1 1/2), Delayed Return Rate (points return at the rate of 5 per Day; +2 1/4) (65 Active Points); OAF (Specially cursed weapon; -1), No Range (-1/2), Conditional Power Must do BOD with weapon attack to set Trigger (-1/2), Requires A Roll (Attack roll, -1 per 20 Active Points modifier; -1/4), Incantations (-1/4) (Real Cost: 18) Those fearlessly evil enough to court the dangerous attention of Tharex, God of Curses, have been known to use this horrifying curse. First a weapon is ritually cursed to prepare it. If the weilder manages to 1) Make a to-hit roll by at least 3, and 2) inflict BODy damage, and 3) utter the appropriate malediction, then the wounded victim is afflicted with the curse, which will manifest when the victim is subject to magical healing, whether self administered, applied by an ally, or the effect of a magical item, potion, blessed place, etc. The victim, and everyone else within four meters, which usually includes the healer, loses 1 to 3 pts of BOD, REC, and Regeneration (1d6 halved because these are defensive abilities) and 1 to 6 pts of Healing. The Trigger automatically resets, so further healing activates the curse again, and it is Cumulative up to 12 pts. Hapless bystanders suffer apparent wounds mimicking the one originally inflicted on the main victim. Lost points return at the rate of 5 per day. The curse is Difficult to Dispel, but fortunately wears off with time; how much time depends on the power of the cursor. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says I should use this in my game now; my players will HATE it.
  23. What sort of city? It will be a City of Campaign People! Then you can start a Campaign of People City! It would? Lucius Alexander You're okay by me, I don't care what the palindromedary says
  24. I'd use the knockbackee's knockback damage and figure the velocity is whatever velocity would add that much damage to a Move Through. Lucius Alexander Excuse me, gotta run before the palindromedary does a Move Through on ME
  25. I was about to say that you need to be present to reset your own Trigger, but then it struck me that I probably don't know what I'm talking about. You might want to build a "Detect Magick Healing" Sense into the Power, unless you think Healing is obvious enough that it can't be done stealthily. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary buys Heal with Invisible Power Effects
