  1. I know much more about this sort of thing than I wish I did, and it has a very familiar sound to it. My condolences.
  2. Assuming one particular aspect of inheritance law is similar in my state as in Maryland, if Angelos sells while alive, then he gets taxed on the profits made over his entire ownership (that is, the raw dollars number of current value [price he sells at] minus basis value [price he bought at], with no adjustment for inflation or anything. Once the legally owning entity changes (i.e. it goes from Angelos to estate of Angelos) then the new owning entity gets the current value as a stepped-up basis and that profit-over-time tax is null.
  3. With my daughter having flown out this morning, it occurred to me that I am living alone for the first time since fall 1990. Well, no other humans; there are three cats in the house which wasn't true way back when.
  4. Hm. I'm not that big a fan of the medial-line triple stripe on helmets; the Seahawks have never had that.
  5. At times, the justice system does live up to its name.
  6. It's a side effect of them being the embodiment of Chill.
  7. Another superheroic mission ends. After rotor damage, Ingenuity helicopter mission on Mars is ended
  8. 26 January 1949: First light for the 200-inch Hale Telescope on Mt Palomar
  9. Another strike against me, I suppose, was that I was married to a former attorney so I had more than average insight into how the process was supposed to work.
  10. If NASA's Johnson Space Center wasn't in Houston, I would be much more enthusiastic about this option.
  11. Death Tribble's application for membership in the Evil Geniuses for a Better Tomorrow was rejected because he admitted he actually doesn't care about tomorrow.
  12. One town I lived in had an extra car which they would leave parked in various places with a manikin in it. The called him "Officer D. Coy".
  13. I've only been summed for jury duty once, and they seated no juries that day so I got off free. I may be on the "scientist" blacklist (no one wants intelligent, rational jurors who are smarter than the lawyers).
  14. Went to a city park here in Seattle, one that abuts the elementary/middle school my kids went to. I hadn't been there in several years, but my daughter goes there often (a friend lives nearby). It seems a beaver or two has taken up residence there, no more than 20 yards from where a creek flows through a culvert and under the railroad into the Sound. They've got a dam in place which we saw (though we saw no beavers), a pond building up behind it, and the area around is transforming into more of a meadow. Would be a fascinating place to do ecological monitoring as the invertebrate species shift with the changing environment.
  15. I think Mr. McGee is spot on, and it ought to be a real concern for those worried about the development of Canadian supers. Obviously the Russians are stealing the north pole to shift the aurorae and augment their own corps of supers in the long term! (This alone could be the foundation of a deeply tongue-in-cheek campaign.)
