  1. There are a number of states where it's legal to keep a (de-scented) skunk as a pet, but mine is not among them.
  2. The BBC's item title ("Milky Way: Manchester astronomers find mysterious object") makes one ask, "Were they looking in a Smarties tube?" (Haven't read a technical article on the discovery yet.)
  3. AI tool identifies hundreds of new possible psychedelic drugs That link is to a Nature commentary. New drug discovery is a problem, so this might not actually be making the world worse. But "AI-discovered psychedelics" sure sounds like an idea for a Champions or Dark Champions adventure. EDIT: The item reminds me the premise behind a number of things in @Drhoz's Edge City items in the "Quote from the gaming table" thread in the Champions forums, too.
  4. Seen for sale at Costco this morning The author's surname is"Eldritch", supposedly. Better than Al-Hazred, I guess.
  5. I've been working on a campaign in Asia and the Indian Ocean, starting about 780 AD, with an emphasis on maritime trade. In medieval Europe ... I'd probably do North Germany (only because I've lived there), and I would again go for early-ish Middle ages. That's Charlemagne's era in nearby what is now called France, and includes the conquest of Saxony, but I would want to include land east of there out to Brandenburg or so, and maybe as far south as the Harz mountains, but that makes the area bigger than I'd want. The lower tech includes agriculture still on the two-field system, fewer kinds of hardware.
  6. I saw his live performance back in the 1980s. It was brilliant.
  7. Fraknoi's materials are pretty solid for astronomy education stuff, but some of those items will be geared toward young audiences, and sci-fi from the early '60s now seems pretty archaic, I'll agree.
  8. From the astronomy education mailing list I'm on. Haven't looked in that link, but the guy who sent this out is a significant name in the astro ed racket.
  9. It's be fun to know if that was real.
  10. Certainly the right spirit, though for real accuracy I think the word "speculation" ought to be replaced with "making s--t up".
  11. One Seattle fan's perspective on Pete Carroll's sojourn with the Seahawks I disagree with one subtitle ("The greatest tenure in Seattle sports history") ... the writer is a product of his generation, and too mainstream to have any awareness of soccer, so he omits Lenny Wilkens' Sonics and Don James' Huskies and the brilliant Clint Dempsey/Obafemi Martins Sounders years, but due to his callow youth I'll forgive him. He does convey the seething underlying rage of all fans here in South Alaska at how the city, its teams, and its fans are invariably dismissed by media in the rest of the country, a burning anger that makes us watch the gif of Kam Chancellor annihilating Vernon Davis raptly, wishing only that a couple of vital organs had gone bouncing away along with the football. Lots of gifs (several from SB XLVIII, beware).
  12. The Fleet at Flood Tide (2016)
  13. I see "goblin" is the new word for "4-year-old".
  14. Q: What's that booth, Tsar Vladimir's World-Winning Borscht? A: Try their polonium tea!
  15. Yea, brother! Preach the Word! Death to the plutocrats!
  16. evil spirits corporate executives
  17. Haven't had time to look into how this leaked into the mainstream press what the science actually is here. Been busy with things like tracking down the dolt minions who let this out hospice care and narcotics.
  18. If you make him angry enough, Death Tribble vomits forth fresh, sweet posies.
  19. There's an extra interpreter, providing translation into Klingonese.
  20. Made for great suspense while playing TREK, though.
