Logically speaking, I agree with this. In fact, had COM been a source of problems in any of the pre-6e games I played, I might have turned to a solution like Striking Appearance myself.
But since I really only ever played Champions, COM was never an issue (it was rarely ever used for anything). It was cheap enough that people could throw a few points into it "just for character concept sake" without feeling like they were entirely wasted points. But for the most part, COM was never a problem in need of a solution for me. The 6e change, while perfectly logical, fell into that category of "needless change for change's sake" for me, and I think I've objected to it strictly on that basis. However, I do acknowledge that the switch from COM to Striking Appearance probably does solve problems for others.

Yeah, I don't think IQ needs a direct correlation to INT. IQ seems like a fairly arbitrary number for gaming purposes -- you've just replaced one set of numbers that need examples with another set that also need examples. What does 150 IQ mean anyway?

massey reacted to Christopher R Taylor in Stat Benchmarks
Whatever you might think about the IQ test, it doesn't really have anything to do with Intelligence as Hero uses the term. At least, not as I understand it and can see it used. Its less how actually smart you are than how well you notice things and how good your memory is.
SO, I'll take a stab at this, to maybe get some specifics started. It seems to me that we don't really need stats beyond 30 or so with any but Strength, realistically.
DEX BENCHMARK EXAMPLE
1 Barely able to stand or hold objects Newborn baby, blind drunk
3 Cannot be trusted to carry objects Very clumsy or drunk person
5 Picked last for the team, awkward Clumsy non athlete or tipsy person
8 Untrained sedentary human Office worker, middle aged gaming supplement writer
10 Healthy, active human Jogger, gym membership
15 Able to compete at college level, agile Martial Arts training, low round pick for professional team, gymnast
good manual dexterity and reaction time
can catch a thrown ball easily
18 high eye-hand coordination, can juggle Professional athlete, very well trained martial artist, circus acrobat
multiple objects and catch a fly on the
wing
20 Catch thrown objects while juggling, use elite professional athlete (first round pick), world-famous acrobat and gymnast
feet as hands, can dodge arrows or
do extremely minute and specific detail work
25 Catch arrows out of the air, do multiple Legendary, gold-medal level athletes and acrobats, multiple gold medal winners, hall of fame level skill. Their name is synonymous with agility
tasks simultaneously, type while juggling
30 catch a bullet out of the air, throw a golf Superheroes, aliens, beyond potential human capacity
ball through a hole its size in a jet airplane
as it flies by, do brain surgery on two people
at once with your feet
Anyway, that's a start.

If he had particles left he would've returned through the device after 5 seconds. He is waiting on the bench because he has lived some portion of his life in this timeline.

I always figured that Cap was worthy, but intent also matters (unless you're Thor -- it is his hammer after all). Sure, Asgardians love getting drunk and flexing their muscles, and Odin would be happy with post-battle feats of strength, but it's not something that Cap is all that comfortable with. He's a humble guy, and gaining the powers of a pagan god just to prove he's better than everyone around him isn't exactly in his comfort zone. The hammer wiggles, but Steve is internally conflicted.
On the other hand, saving his planet from destruction? Saving Thor's life? Stopping the greatest mass murderer in the universe? Cap has no reservations about that. His mind and body are one.

Since he showed up in the same timeline he left (or at least a version of Cap showed up in the timeline that a version of Cap left), I think we've got to accept the possibility that he was always there.
In 2012, when one Cap is fighting an earlier version of Cap over Loki's scepter, somewhere there's a third version of Cap (much much older) who is holding Peggy's hand while she's in the hospital. When freshly thawed out Cap finds out that Peggy (not Sue) got married, he doesn't know that she's married to his future time traveling self.

I like spreading the stats out a bit because I want a little more separation between total normals and legendary athletes. It doesn't bother me if it doesn't quite match the real world.
I once saw a college football player break his own leg when he jumped in the air and chest-bumped a teammate. He didn't kick anything, he just landed funny. He came down on his leg a little awkwardly and snap -- a season ending injury. So does that mean he has a 0 PD? Vulnerability to failed Dex checks? Nah. Real life just doesn't get perfectly simulated by game mechanics. Giving a guy an 8 PD doesn't mean that you can beat on him all day with a baseball bat without cracking a rib. In game terms that might technically be true, but narratively it just means the guy is pretty darn tough. He can take a punch.
I don't want to see character sheets for Mike Tyson in his prime and see that somebody gave him a 16 Str. Nor do I think Lois Lane gets a 7 Str, even if she's only 5'6" and weighs 130 lbs. There's nothing wrong with leaving Lois with a 10, or giving Iron Mike a 25.

Warlock in the comics is so tied in to Thanos it's tough to see what they would do with him. No soul gem, no Thanos, he's just a blank slate. I suspect a "Warlock in Name Only" to accompany "Mantis in Name Only"

No, they weren't important to me. And they weren't important to anybody else either. You see, it's not their movie.
zslane's criticism was that the writers didn't want to spend any time thinking of things for Shuri and Mantis to do in the big battle. That's true, they didn't want to spend time thinking about it, or spend time showing it. They are minor supporting characters. They'll get to appear in later movies, the only thing we really needed to see in Endgame is that they're alive again.
What about Maria Hill? Should she have had a bigger part than just standing there at Tony Stark's funeral? What about Janet Van Dyne? What about Betty Ross? Isn't it time for a Liv Tyler reappearance? See, we can go through and pick out all sorts of supporting characters and demand that they get more screen time. The truth is, this movie is about the original six Avengers getting revenge on Thanos, correcting their one failure, and then riding off into the sunset. That's what it's about.

I go with a more heroic scale. 20 is "maximum" in that it's the max you're likely to encounter in the real world. It's not the max a human could possibly be. I reject that idea.
5-8: People of Wal-Mart
8-10: Average couch potato
10-12: Average healthy 30 year old in reasonably good shape
13-15: Top 10% of your high school (when grown up)
16-18: Top college performers
20-23: High performing professionals
25+: Best of the best
So let's say you've got an 18 Dex. You could be a scholarship athlete at a big Division 1 school. You could play basketball for Duke, or football at Alabama.
You've got a 15 Strength? You might have been a high school wrestler, and you've stayed in shape as you matured into your adult body.
20 Presence? You're a skilled trial lawyer in a large city, respected among your peers.
25 Dex? Nike makes commercials with you in them.

Come up with a generic name in English and slap it into Google Translate.
Der Amboss Korps -- the Anvil Corps, because the Fatherland's enemies will be smashed as if they were struck against an anvil. It sort of fits better with the Soviet hammer iconography, but the Germans have Thor, so they can use it too.

For fun, let's do the math on Cap's age:
For the record, I've seen the movie twice and, for me, everything (the car outside, the house, their clothes, the music, general ambience and a still young Peggy - looked like she had grey streaks in 1970 when she'd be 50+) points to the fact that he used the "return Pym particles" (already established by Tony & Cap's trip to 1970) to jump further into the past to 1946-ish.
In approx. 2013 (Winter Soldier) he declares himself to be 95.
Out of ice
1918 - 1945 = 27
2011? - 2023 (2018 + 5yrs after snap) = 12
1946 - 2023 = 77
On ice
1945 - 2011? = 65ish (trying not to count some years twice
Physical age = 116 (approximately)
Actual age = 181 (approximately)
If, for some reason, you believe he stayed in 1970, just subtract 24 from both of the above.

Steve Rogers didn't go back to the 1970s. He went back to the 1940s, to be with Peggy after WW II, picking up his life where he left off when he was frozen. That's clearly the era depicted when we see them dancing together at the end of the movie. For a man a hundred years old (born 1918), I thought he looked pretty good.
Cap's shield in the MCU isn't the unique alloy from the comics, it's "just" vibranium, and no more "indestructible" than any other vibranium. Granted, that's still very tough. MCU Cap has also been knocked flying before when his shield was hit with powerful explosions. Besides, the shield being shredded is a classic image of Avengers defeat, including during his fight with Thanos in the Infinity Gauntlet comic series; not to mention a callback to Tony Stark's vision in Age of Ultron.
True. However, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." Odin's own words during the first Thor movie.

Ideally I’d like to do several of these scene breakdowns, and eventually piece together some stats for these characters.
i think Iron Man, Quicksilver, and Thor all have a crapload of movement. If Cap has 9” or Running and an 8 Speed, that lets him run at about 50 mph, which might be pretty close to what we’ve seen him do. But Iron Man flies at jet fighter speed. He’s got lots more movement and higher non-combat multipliers.

Finally got to see Endgame.
It had a ton of great moments, all which have already been mentioned by folks here, but it leaned on time travel as the linchpin of the plot, and none of it made a lick of sense. For that alone, I have to dock the movie a full grade.
I also wasn't fond of Lebowski Thor. And it bugged me that they threw characters into the big battle at the end who had little to no battlefield capability and would have been torn to shreds in seconds (Mantis, Shuri). I mean, there's a shot where Mantis is just standing there doing nothing, and you know why? Because she has no powers that are suitable for that kind of combat environment. In the comics Mantis is one of the most lethal martial artists in the galaxy, but in the MCU all of that has been stripped from her.
The kids in the theater I was in were all kinds of bored and fussy during a lot of the first two hours of the film. There were times when even I was tempted to look at my watch, and I question the need for it to be three hours long. I was also unfortunate enough to see this movie in Los Angeles. I'm pretty sure that in every other city in the country, numerous moments in the movie were received with rousing cheers by the audience, but Angelinos are Too Cool for School and don't react to much of anything. There was some polite clapping at the end when the closing credits began, but that was about it. This only added to my overall sense that the movie was every-so-slightly a let-down (expectations were set way too high from reactions to the movie after the first weekend, and that didn't help either). But it's not the movie's fault that I live in a city that sucks arse when it comes to fellow audience members.
