  2. Re: Space the final frontier Also, how about security teams who remember our extensive years of CQB doctrine?
  3. Re: Hit Locations Um. Markdoc..... what do you do for a living? The reason I ask is that you said you were wearing jeans during the shrapnel bit....not BDUs.....
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... That's beautiful, right there. Gotta remember that....
  5. Re: Half Life 2 for Hero Thank you, sorry I missed that. I didn't know there were different STR charts. I'm pretty sure I disapprove.
  6. Re: Half Life 2 for Hero Well, in the games, you look up and shoot them before you get drawn into their mouths. I'm sorry, but what is this "superheroic/heroic" STR differentiation? I never play Champs, so perhaps I'm missing something...
  7. Re: Game Effects of Dying I wouldn't usually increase Bleeding due to exertion (note: usually), but I definitely would impose negatives to any effort to STOP the Bleeding if the PC refused to cease exerting himself, and make that PC make rolls to see if they resumed Bleeding due to their continued efforts.
  8. Re: AoE attack damage inside the backpack Or if it has NND, then it should almost definitely cut through the backpack as well.
  9. Re: Shoule NASA be nixed? Also, isn't deep underwater often more dangerous than space, from an engineering perspective?

    Dueling

Re: Dueling I'd like to point out that the OP has only two posts to his name, both of which are in this thread. So a more general introduction to HERO and explanation of combat and "cinematic" experiences might be more conducive to his goal. For instance, no list of maneuvers is inherently cinematic. It's how the GM narrates, how the PCs chose to use their abilities, etc.

  12. Re: Personal Companion Bots. and a months long voyage.... ...why does this bot have a refractory period?

  14. Re: ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II -- What Do *You* Want To See?
  15. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses Hm. Of course. DCV itself isn't a Power and can't be used as such. Same for DMCV. This makes sense. If you're asking me, well, I'd say yes you can, especially based on this conversation.
  16. Re: ...If I End Up In an Urban Fantasy Novel Wait, what? Can you explain the simple, physical steps to me? If you pour less vodka into... what? How do you determine what was "the level of when you started?" Why am I pouring into vodka rather than pouring vodka into me? Huh?
  17. Re: Guards and Soldiers Oh, oops. I forgot the description of that unit. Just saw the name. Loved The Wire.
  18. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses Not sure what you are saying here. Absolutely true. Unless I could build some sort of Aid or UBO or Naked Adder that gives DCV to the hex I suppose.... heh. Sort of. The subpoint of that example is that it's a Focus, and has the weaknesses of Focus. Thus, until it explodes, my DCV is ENTIRELY relevant. You throw it at my face, I just Dodge it and it goes sailing past me (depending on its timer of course). No, what I'm doing there is turning the reasoning of your dismissal of the notion around on itself using its own reasoning. Drawing implications based upon the image of someone complaining that they couldn't think a bullet into missing them (and therefore implying that the ability is somehow inappropriate based upon that image) is just as nonsensical and invalid as my other examples. Pretty much everything discussed in these boards is ridiculous. All I'm REALLY interested in, at this juncture, is an analysis of why we can modify OMCV so that it goes against DCV (and OCV if you want to, I guess) but we apparently can't modify DMCV to go against OCV. I've suggested that Hugh's examples suggest you SHOULD be able to, according the reasoning provided. I hope he returns to clarify or reconsider, depending on what his analysis is. Feel free to offer your reasons, of course, as to why it's ok (or not!) to use OMCV vs DCV but NOT DMCV vs. OCV.
  19. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses As opposed to a guy using colored light trying to stop an object with actual mass? Or perhaps a guy in a spandex suit expecting it to just bounce off his chest? Or the guy trying to "think" a baseball/grenade towards someone else, and then complaining that the object didn't move? This is a valid point that I had forgotten and addresses one of my questions. All the others remain, however.
  20. Re: Half-Life 2 HERO? Very good stuff.
  21. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses
  22. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses Then how do you reconcile this with your earlier suggestion? If Greg the Psi-Grenadier can lob a grenade against Professor X using the powers of his mind, by targeting with his mind, by using OMCV......why can't Professor X "nudge" the grenade (not as a Block, but as a SFX of "dodging" [note the lowercase, so not the Maneuver you can Abort to but that could also be appropriate: a "psychic Dodge"] that is often attributed to regular DCV) aside using his DMCV? Or perhaps DMCV could be justified in this case as an intuitive form of limited precognition, which helps the character anticipate the attack. I'm mulling over the idea that certain Characteristics have inherent SFX beyond simply being Characteristics. OMCV/DMCV seem to be, by default, connected to MENTAL SFX. So if I want to build a capable mentalist who can't shoot or fight hand to hand worth anything, I could consider just buying OMCV and DMCV (with appropriate modifiers), and recognize that if I ever step into something that targets mentalism SFX (a psi-dampening field), that it all goes away, including by base 3 OM/DMCV. Rather than buying Limited OCV/DCV. Might be... cleaner. But is it appropriate/balanced?
  23. Re: Guards and Soldiers Probably the Buffalo Soldiers. Just a guess.
  24. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses Did you get these backwards, perhaps? Or misunderstand my question? I don't want to use OCV at all. I don't go against DMCV. I'm asking about USING DMCV against OCV. I honestly don't understand that example.
  25. Re: Mages & Psychics and Alternate Combat Value uses Hm. Hugh's analysis makes me wonder.... Can I buy DMCV against OCV?
