  1. I would say that's primarily up to the Final Four; the rest of us don't have much to do except hit vote buttons, switch vote buttons, post snarky remarks, hold out points as carrots, and otherwise make their lives a living Hades. I will say we seem to get more fan participation on weekdays, though.
  2. I know I voted for Kaine more than once and thought he deserved better treatment. But I guess he was just too. . . .icky. Congrats all; if I play again next season I will feel obligated to retain BB!
  3. Whoa - so horrendously hideous it almost works! And who knew standardized tests have their own covert cheating enforcers?
  4. I may be feeling masochistic today, but I went through my die rolls to see what was going on there. Not FrankL style analysis, but just a basic rundown: Started out well in week one, winning 4 of 5 with a total roll value of +18. Week two was very even, winning 2 of 5 but with a total value of +3 All downhill from there, in the final 3 weeks, won 3 of 15 rolls ( ) . Total value of the rolls left me at -50. Statistically, how improbable is that? Should I start buying more lottery tickets? Is there a supervillain called Polyhedron Man? Also, the majority of my matches (13 of 25) were decided by 5 or less points (surprising, considering the D12 hate). Trying to end on a bright note, in the final match of the season, with maximum points, near maximum roll, and a massive voting advantage, Black Bolt scored a total of 40. This appears to be the highest total any character scored in any match. He has (telepathically thru Medusa) asked for some kind of recognition, bonus point, prize or super-pet.
  5. I bought one copy - on my wish list anyways! Thanks for the heads up.
  6. The coloring is beautiful as always, but I don't think anybody can save that Atlas agent outfit. Sorta like Captain Planet, but even lamer. Interesting that this background, and one of the Viper/UNTIL plot hooks, toyed with the idea of a 'false dichtomy' between the evil and good global paramilitary spy organizations. And decades before Winter Soldier!
  7. Never saw Go On - looks a bit like Dear John. I know Seinfeld is not to everyone's taste (it was the #1 show on TV for a few consecutive years, though ). Give this a whirl: (If you're a comic book fan, surely worth at least a chuckle).
  8. I just meant that characters in those shows regularly refer to superheroes. That fact that either one is ten times funnier than Friends is, well, incidental!
  9. [uugh] I always hated Friends. Wouldn't Seinfeld or Big Bang Theory be more apropos?
  10. I happened across a thread with all sorts of enthusiasm for the project at rpg.net: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?756336-Hero-System-New-Strike-Force-Book-%28other-systems-too%29. A couple of (persumably younger) folks asked 'what's Strike Force?' but overall: Squeeee!
  11. I just think Hermit has already won the psychological battle - you can think of nothing but him!
  12. Lady Hermit? You will be taking flak in the near future (I know!)
  13. Same here, I went with characters I liked but many others didn't. The D12 really did seem to constantly tease me, consistently losing me the critical matches but throwing me a bone now and then after the week was decided. But the Knights who said Nietzsche fought the good fight, were never swept, never lost anybody. Somehow, we turned into a pseudo-League of Assassins - taking out (for now) Red Hulk, Ditto and Man-Bat. Congratulations to the four playoff placers! As a bottom-feeder, I will expect well-reasoned and tactically astute observations to sway the howling mob in the post-season.
  14. This is nothing new to say (in fact is blindingly obvious), but I can only imagine that SW and M&M outsell Hero in the superhero (and other) arenas due to the graphics and layout. I own products from all three lines, and M&M in particular simply drips superheroic action on every page, with visually interesting characters and use of color layout to make the reading easy on the eyes. I know in my heart it is not as good a system, but the bells and whistles get me enthused to play a supers rpg on a weird, instinctual level. Don't get me wrong, the 6ed books were a step in the right direction with quality color art, but Green Ronin has taken it up a notch or two. If we could just mix their chocolate with Hero's peanut butter. . . .
  15. Ok, ok, I was just venting. I've personally never beat one, but others have.
  16. I like that idea, a 'Power Nullifier' arena that pops up every so often.
  17. The kinda guy while not a villain, will tag along and cause all sorts of problems for a group. I guess I'll go ahead and say it: is that the Avengers logo on his chest? And if he's Uberman, shouldn't it be a 'U'?
  18. I kinda did this with my team of mostly monstrous misfits! And it has definitely been a challenge. Going all bad has occured to me and I even have a possible name: The Punishment Gluttons. Is it possible to win any matches when you never get the popular votes? Another rule: Winning Teams have at least one Martian or Kryptonian. Martians and Kryptonians never lose. Far from being considered ridiculous Munchkins with every power in the Champions rulebook, they are fan favorites. And a counter-intuitive one: do not pick popular characters with cinematic adaptations. They are considered tired and blase. Stick with heroic, handsome/beautiful second stringers. (although imho this makes for pretty boring teams).
  19. Growing up, I remember it was firmly stated that sauropods like apat lived primarily in water and used their long necks as snorkels or to bottom-feed. Decades ago, that theory was discarded as it became clear that they migrated in large herds across dry land. And the prevailing theory is that many dinos had metabolisms a lot closer to mammals than reptiles. I think there is even fossil evidence of large numbers of herbivorous dinosaurs drowning at river crossings a la wildebeasts. We can only assume there was some kind of panic? Hard to make a final determination; I might go with a swimming penalty but not that severe.
  20. A cool project I'm looking forward to! Updating one of the most influential books in rpg history has to be both exciting and daunting. I remember an early column of Aaron's in which he described a gaming group in Denton - and how munchkiny, kill and loot oriented they were - before eloquently outlining why this style of play simply didn't appeal and his character / story first philosophy.
  21. Same here, gives a little 'mid-season' break for forecasts and side bets, as Pariah indicated.
  22. Genetic Deviant X really is creepy! Combines elements of zombies, Swamp Thing and the old Star Trek salt creature.
  23. Thanks! Independent inspiration though, after posting I saw that similar ideas had been discussed in the 'introducing new players to Hero' thread. I did come up with a possible name for the as yet unrealized, spunky new team though. Since the Champions are the game universe's premier team, the new guys/gals could be: The Contenders. (that's right, Defender et al. - you have to retire sometime!)
  24. Ouch, almost sounds like a stomach virus/food poisoning. All our best, and we'll be here when you feel better.
