  1. So, how much PD do you think you'd get if you strapped this book to your chest? My feel is about +3 PD for that area myself... Not only a reference source, but a handy dandy piece of armor as well...
  2. Quick edit note... On the Fantasy Hero Spell Form, the first spell category has a formatting issue and an 'f' of Effect is out of whack - at least it displays as such on my computer screen.
  3. When I created such a taser like device and decided not to go with an NND effect, I did it as a continuous Dex drain, so basically the person could keep struggling against the effect until he was immobilized.
  4. Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps I should just sit down and read FREd from cover to cover. Then again, I have some other plans for the next four days.
  5. Remember the old saying - the moment you have an original idea, over a dozen people across America had the same idea. This coming from a person who thought "Gold Rush" was a cool, unique speedster name.
  6. Flipping through the Star Hero Book, I came across an item on page 149. They are a pair of gloves that do the following: +5d6 HA - double knockback. As I had a character with this once and the GM asked for me to remove it because it didn't make sense, I thought I'd ask here for some clarification. If I have the above item, how does that affect me if I have a 15 Strength? I can't imagine that I get an additional +3d6 of double knockback - otherwise, that would be a real cheap way to add modifiers to strength. Figured I'd ask here before on the rules board as Steve has enough work.
  7. I am hoping to submit a list by next weekend. My only downside - I don't have the spacer's toolkit. Hope I don't simply remake existing items and waste Ben's time...
  8. Hey! What do you think I was working on this for??? Feel free to post it, as long as I get some recognition.
  9. Re: Re: Limitation doesn't limit character In that case, I wanted to make a general comment about the "Will not work under water" limitation. I had discussed this with another player who had flame powers and had "Cannot work underwater/In space & vacuum". My thought immediately was 'how often will the characters be exposed to the phenomenon?' For instance, they might be in a submarine or in a shuttle but they would rarely, if ever, be in the naked element itself. But still, it is a valid disadvantage in the book. However, I noticed that the character, if exposed to these environments, would drown/suffocate. So to me, I felt they wouldn't ever be in these situations and LIVE anyways. So I have a house rule - if you cannot survive in the environment that you are choosing for your powers not to work in (Extreme radiation, Under Water, In the Ground), then you do not get to apply the disadvantage of it not working there.
  10. As an FYI, the idea I had behind this is not to create an impenetrable mode of protection. It is suppose to be nothing more than a hi-tech tent. The reason I didn't go with just a Change Environment is because, well, I don't like to use CE for something this 'reality changing'. To warm up and/or dry out an area, sure. But to keep rain, snow and sleet from hitting you while sleeping - I dun like it. The idea of a FW is so that simple rain and so on can be kept out while warmth is kept in, however if the conditions become TOO violent (such as hail the size of basketballs) the thing will go down. It is meant as an emergency shelter type of thing so you wouldn't want to be invisible (normally).
  11. Re: Wow Can't wait to play in your campaign.
  12. Lorica Segmentata is one of the spelling/pronunciations of the 'standard' roman armor. There is also Loricus Sementanta and combintations of the two. And I think banded armor is any armor where metal strips are literally banded together.
  13. Armor names The thing that get's me is the over abundance use of the word "mail". To my historical searching, there is only one type of mail - chain mail. All other type of armor should be just the name - scale, plate, banded, ring, etc. Mail, I believe, refers to the weaving process of the metal wire to create the armor. It is more of another Gary Gygax creation to scale mail, banded mail, plate mail, ring mail and so on.
  14. I can't believe this! You seem to be right as I cannot locate anything on the web about this being in period. Dang, and I always thought it was. The closest I can find isn't really 'studded' but rings sewn onto the outside of the padded shirt. Something I also term lovingly as "Washer Armor".
  15. Don't worry Ben, if comparing it to other DoJ products - it is like saying you only have a 2 carat diamond instead of the 10 carats of the others.
  16. They all become super martial artists, each having a full body costume a single color, and can summon forth giant robotic vehicles. Power Rangers - The Islands.
  17. Thanks for the info guys. For some reason, I didn't think you could by PI with a Force Wall... I LOVE Force Walls and am working on a series of such items for Star Hero - nothing that is really combat related - more emergency and survival items.
  18. So, I wanted to build a Gamma World type of instant shelter device for Star Hero. The idea is that You create a force wall with a minimal amount of PD to keep out the elements, add in a Change environment to keep things warm and dry inside and you have an instant emergency shelter. My only thought to add to it would be some way to have people be able to walk in and out of the area without having to drop the Force Wall. Any ideas on how to do it? I was originally thinking having some sort of device (a wrist band) that could pass through it freely as well as allow anyone wearing it to pass through. Someone shows up, you toss him a wrist band and he walks in. Not suring how to do even that though... Of course, if this is already in TE or SH (Just got the books today) I'm just bein' silly...
  19. The trouble is not that the game is 'less lethal', but that damage is calculated differently than what most people are used to. In D&D, the game is set that it is an all or nothing attack. If your swing is low, you do no damage. If you hit, you do the same amount of damage whether it is against someone with plate or someone without armor. In Hero, if you hit, your potential of doing damage is based upon the type of armor they are wearing. I actually find this much more realistic than the typical hit point based system. In the times of plate, people would carry daggers to force the surrender or kill those wearing full plate. The reason being that you could bludgeon them onto the ground but you would still have to get on top of him, take a dagger and find a place to slip it past the armor in order to kill them. How many movies have you seen someone take a full on chest hit, only to be 'nursed' back to health later? You don't get that in the hit point system. If you have one hit point left, you are just as functional as if you were at full. In Hero, you get the stun/unconcious/bleeding out and all the other combinations to have a good, dramatic flair. There are so many modifiers in Hero (2x damage when stunned, etc) that fantasy combat can be a little more dramatic than "I have one hit point left, I'll still attack." Remember, it takes all of one phase after someone is unconcious to slit their throat.
  20. I once played an ancient Earth Elemental who wielded a light saber and was a Trekkie. Does that count as breaking the mold? As he had been 'asleep' for eons, the group decided that the best way to get him up to speed on the 20th century was to sit him in front of a TV. Unfortunately, there was a Star Trek marathon going on...
  21. A friend of mine found a copy in a LGS but they told him that they couldn't sell it until Monday. That was wierd. Also, my FLGS says that it isn't currently in their distributor's catalog so they can't order it yet. I'll get it though...
  22. "Why are you asking me? You're the one in tights!" -Normal NPC's response when questioned about what was going on. While attempting to free an item from a web, I pulled, tugged and eventually began chewing my way through. My intrepid team-mate looks over at me and says, "Dude! You know that came from a spider's butt?!!"
  23. Source material A friend of mine just handed me a rulebook for a fantasy game - it is called Riddle of Steel. Oh my gods. If you want to talk about gritty, life threatening combats and low magic realms, this is it. Reading it has given me so many ideas for a FH game. If you can pick up a copy just to peruse, you might be impressed. Sorry, didn't mean to 'push' another system, just that I have not seen a low fantasy game put together as well as this one. It makes combat LETHAL.
  24. The trouble with secret entrances, combination locks, etc. is that people who wish to visit cannot enter the base. From playing in the game, it seems that they'd like any non-villian type the ability to at least enter the foyer. The idea of an enchanted sphinx that asks for the oath that they are there for the good of the city and its inhabitants would be perfect. Especially if the sphinx then stood up to allow passage. Also, it would make a good guardian against those who wanted in for nefarious reasons. Go Scarab Sorceress!
