  1. The URL that Loki was talking about can be found at http://www.larping.net/Hero/Hexagon which is my campaign. I have been a little bit lax on things, part because of real life needs but also for in game reasons. The players started to ask me why there hadn't been any new articles from Nigel Peaks on the website (I even made a Yahoo account for him). I told them it was because Nigel hadn't been writing any. They began to do some research, call him up and finally found out about his quest for vengance. I love it when the seemingly unimportant becomes a plot hook. Nigel Peaks basically writes a column called the Hero Herald on the "super" community so I don't do any real newspaper formatting - just the paragraph.
  2. The one that caused me to slap my head... I was actually out for the session but when recounted to me, my character began to bang his head against the wall. Luckily, I was a Power Suit. We had been after this team of international mercenaries. They were young kids (18-24) but had some rather heavy powers. We had attempted multiple times to capture them but they always seemed to teleport and get away at the last moment. My character, in fact, was built to stop them - having a Force Wall that stopped teleportation. And we almost had them on the last session, but once again managed to just get away. However, this time one of them left behind his weapon's case that had his sword in it. Yay! Trophy. BTW, I should also mention that we were a new super team that was under constant scrutiny by law officials - to the point that we knew that the FBI was monitoring our base from a van parked nearby. So, at the next gaming session, the one that I was not at, the villain who's sword we had showed up at the front door to our base. He told them that he was there to pick up his sword. So, the heroes opened the door, let him in to get his weapon and then let him leave. With the FBI clickin' away with their cameras as we allowed a wanted fugative in and out without so much as a hard handshake. My teammates' reasoning? "We couldn't stop him before, we wouldn't have been able to stop him this time so we figured we try to get on his good side."
  3. I liked his line from this week's game. "Go ahead and target ol' tall, dark and grabbed"
  4. You could make the bone spurs OIF as I believe Tyr has had his removed.
  5. Don't forget Rescue Rangers Mmmmm Gadget. um, I mean... Actually, I thought that DWD had some real campaign appeal.
  6. If you have the powers already 'slotted' why not make the VPP into an MP? With the -1/2 lim and making three of the slots Ultras, you come out with the same point cost.
  7. Actually, I liked the writing of both of these this time. What was lacking in one, was abundant in the other so I felt that I got a good idea of the mindsets of both men. Usually, one or the other is far off the mark from what I believe is the character's personality. Both seemed to pull 'trick hat' endings but I liked Mister Matthew's subtlety a bit more. And the endline was rather cute as well.
  8. Sure. Anything I post here I expect to get ripped off, er, borrowed and used. That is why I keep my more 'important stuff' off the boards. Nah, I don't have an ego.
  9. Went with buttermilk today. It is goush to wear whole wheat after the fifth of May...
  10. Heh, in my world, there is a group called "Bases, Inc." which is actually a construction company that has 'supers' that aren't quite as high in the points as your average super hero group - so they took their slightly better than normal abilities and created a company that builds bases as well as repairs damage wrought by super encounters. Such people include a couple who just have clinging and nothing else - for high scaffolding work, a welder with uber-hot hands, tunneler and some people who can work magic with metal.
  11. Re: Persistent Powers and Knockback All powers are considered 'up' until the end of the segment. So the person would still have his FF up when he hit the wall, even if unconcious.
  12. With just what you mentioned, I would suggest one of two things. First off, have some guy atop Coit Tower threatening to destroy the city. He has monitors secreted around the old hero group's base and that he knows they're all in there and if they leave, he'll blow up major areas in San Francisco. It gives a 'call to arms' for all the independants out there. Second, go with the patron. An old member/contact for the original group sees the way things are going. He send out invitations to the newer heroes in the area - ones he believes would be best for the city. With all of the retrofitting and construction going on in the bay area, he has also found a base that they can use.
  13. Yup, I ran in one. It was funny. "Did he just throw TWO dice of killing???? Run!" "He has 18 strength.... oooooo...." I thought I was kickass because I had a dagger AND a level in its use.
  14. He seemed to also state that he instructed his players over and over again that it was not hack and slash, charge in and do and mow down whatever is in your way. And that was, apparently, what they did. With all of the above setups and so on, there is nothing stopping a player from taking his PC and having him run in front of a bus and get blottoed. IMO, it is never the system that is at fault. Having played everything from RoleMaster to Amber Diceless, the systems are just the framework. The players and GM are what make the game and, to me, the rule system is tertiary. If you think Top Secret was deadly, you should have tried Boot Hill. At least in TS, you had a variety of wound factors and locations. In Boot Hill you were either lightly wounded, incapacitated or dead. And yet, I ran a year long campaign in Boot Hill without any difficulties - deaths yes (but not alot), difficulties no. Now, I just recently played my first 3rdE game and I have to say, that whole Target of Opportunity thing is silly IMO. I can't believe that I need to step back five feet just so that the person doesn't get a second swing in on me before I try again.
  15. This is the simplistic way I look at it: Use Per roll to find a can of Diet Pepsi amongst a case of normal Pepsi Use Rapid to scan each soda to find out which has the oldest expiration date.
  16. I agree with BN's situation. I would use it more of a SFX situation. A suspect's desk is covered in papers, Rapid Sight will allow you to locate it in almost no time. Or searching through tomes to find the spell you need or rapid computer display of information. I always used a Per roll to locate the book and Rapid will help them find the information in the book quicker.
  17. Not to be a nitpicker here, but I would say that such a power needs GM approval. This power will: Stop a character from becoming prone. Stop any extra damage from a throw or knockback. Change location of the character - sometimes people are thrown or knock backed in hopes of putting them into a disadvantageous situation.
  18. Thank you. I had been building a Global Guardian character and the funny thing was that by the time I was done with the packages, (figuring I had a job before becoming a guardian), I had spent almost half of my skills. Couldn't see the 'deal' in restricting my character like that. Also, their "Packages" are not correct in the points if it is a straight up one for one so that was confusing me as well. Example: Actor Package (3 Points): Acting (3) Cramming 8 Or Less (5) Disguise (3) Knowledge Skill: Famous Actors (3) Oratory (3) Persusation (3) Choose One: High Society (3) Streetwise (3) Psychological Limit: Attention Seeker (-15) The package should cost 8 points, not 3 - correct? Hence the reason why I am so confuddled. Others aren't doing it right.
  19. I would just make it a breakfall with a special effect myself.
  20. Re: Matrix Hero I might do things as follows: Have a VPP in the Matrix mode, for skills only, for the upload. From what it looked like in reality, they didn't have the skills. At least, I didn't see anything looking like H-T-H mastery/dodging while the weasel was about to be shot. I think that maybe the skills only stay in the Matrix. Although Neo did open his eyes and say "I know Kung Fu!" Maybe this will be shown a bit better in Reloaded. I might make the character have a multiform/duplication ability - with the limitation of 'only works in the Matrix'. Although the original multiform might be expensive, you can load up whoppers of limitations on it (must be unconcious and plugged into the Matrix. Does not affect the 'real world', etc.)
  21. Please excuse this newbie question but it is something that has always had my brain go a lil' wonky and I will fully admit I have not delved into the rulebook for the answer. I have a package deal that costs 5 points The package deal gives me 50 points of skills, etc. and 30 points of disadvantages (don't worry if the points don't equal the package deal, it is just numbers for help). The character guidelines is 200 + 100 points of Disads I build my character with 195 points + 100 points of Disads Do I then add the package deal for 5 points and everything is just fine? It costs me only 5 points but I get 50 points worth of stuff, putting me over the 200 limit and my disads go up to 130.
  22. Re: Fantasy RPG Rant I do not play 3E, but did partake in a couple of sessions as a break from my Champs game. Someone gave me the Wizard's Handbook and I read about their Prestige classes. I also read some of the Prestige classes in Forgotten Realms. I am not sure of where the Ghostwalker comes from, but the ones I read seemed to have good story backgrounds. The Blood Mage needing to have died and been brought back to life, for example. And most of the abilities they get have a brief sentence or two as to why the person can now do it. I will fully admit that the body teleport with the Blood Mage (it stuck in my head) seems far fetched but they do explain about how the essense of the blood is intertwined and so such. The trouble will always be with the groups you find. I have players who could care less about points. it is about the game. I want to play in the 3E game again - not because of kickass abilities and powers but because I LOVE watching the Dwarf (another PC) of Int 5 trying to teach his "War Pony" how to charge - it is jut a donkey but someone told him it was a trained war pony and he will get it to charge or will kill it trying.
  23. I actually like seeing more copies of the same villian group out there. It lets you see that they have their paws in more pots than just the one. Perhaps this VIPER or VOICE group in this area has a slightly different agenda. Maybe they are a specialized group doing research and crimes in a certain area. Sort of like the Initiative on Buffy. They were Army but their work was anything but standard grunt stuff (no offence meant). Imagine a super hero team coming into a VIPER base, ready to take them down and the Nest Leader is just finishing up a summoning ritual. WTF? Well VIPER needs to have all of its bases covered afterall...
  24. I have troubles with these contests... My problem is that I know the Champion villians rather well and absolutely nothing about the SAS villians. So, when I read the stories, I totally identify with DoJ's stories but find the SAS one's lacking a bit. As an example in the previous matter, I totally identified with Darren's story of Mechanon - having read about him for nearly a decade and seeing how he did things and how he would react to meeting the Iron Duke. However, reading the story of Mechanon digging up a hole to create a factory with geothermal energy just seemed to far fetched. Likewise, the thought of BH stopping in a toy store to create a workshop and then modify the toys seems rather out of his persona. Meanwhile, I don't know the first thing about Janus. So, I feel that my votes would always be biased against SAS, just because of my complete lack of knowledge of their characters.
  25. Heh, I'd hate to come back to unlife like that... "What? Oh, CRAP! I was bitten by one of the dang hopping vampires! Why couldn't I be one of those cool floating ones. Now everyone will laugh - here comes Peter BloodyTail - hoppin' down the vampy trail..." Of course, I know very little about Japanese Mythos, but eh, it struck me funny. "EEK! A vampire! Run away!" *hop* *hop* "What the???? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
