  1. Yup, I IZ PIKY. Heh, and I just copy/paste your chart into Excel and do all my own modifications. Why create from wholecloth when you can steal outright.
  2. Re: Re: New Character I thought it was discussed in the first season. I believe Lando is showing Lineer a model of a god/goddess and explaining how it is 'anatomically correct'. If you think that the discussion is wierd - wait until you see how Lando uses it/them to cheat at poker.
  3. Ah, good ol' excel. Although you might want to round the numbers as the original had edit: The original also listed the chart in the actual modifiers instead of what you multiply them by (ex: the 1.25 columns on TheEmerged table would actually be titled as 1/4).
  4. I use a 2ed D&D ploy for this. I have often had trouble seeing how someone could appraise anything from a rough cut gemstone to furniture. I always felt that there needed to be some 'structure' to it - areas of expertise as it were. In 2nd Ed, I believe they mentioned the different 'categories' of valuables that could be done. Therefore, I break them down into categories: Gems & Jewlery Paintings and sculptures Clothing and Tapestries (cloth objects) Stone and wood work (furniture and others) Precious Metals and stones(such as candlesticks and other nick nacks not covered under the above) Each one of these areas require a seperate Knowledge or Analyze skill.
  5. I do haveta admit there is a bit of 'style' with Dr. Doom that I like as well. I personally love the way Mauser's look so when I saw he carried one I liked him for that. But I found myself asking, "Why is he carrying a simple handgun when he has all those neat energy blasts, poison darts and other battle abilities in his armor. It seemed 'unintelligent' to carry extra crap around. Then, I later read a writeup in a comic about Dr. Doom and it turns out he carries the pistol to use against people and idiots who don't deserve him wasting his suit's powers on. Now, that is Style.
  6. I wish I was in DC... Or even in the Tri-State area. I'd make it a point to find a way to get to your game, Aroooo. I love B5 and your site rocks.
  7. I would say that Xanatos from Gargoyles was rather sweet. The ultimate puppet master who wanted the secret of immortality. Builds himself a Gargoyle battle suit and minions, etc. All and all, a well rounded villian.
  8. I usually don't have trouble with adding in a completely new person to the Hero system into an existing game. You have other players that can help them along as well. This, however, was just ME with people who never played the game before. The game went EXTREMELY quick as they apparently were used to the hack and slash of other games and just took care of the directives without investigating the whys or wherefors. They picked up the combat rather easily and were handling the system rather well by the end of the night. Now, just to show them that there is more to it than just blasting away your opponent.
  9. Heh, one of the great things about working for a gaming company is that not only can you have such a book in the office, but it can be sitting on your desk, open, with you looking through it and it is okey. Not to mention being able to expense it as 'research material'. Damn, I miss my Producer days...
  10. Wish me luck. I start a Champions campaign tonight at a FLGS with players who are completely new to the Hero system. Long time D&D players, and can even feel it in their characters (one wants to be a Demon/Dragon Multiform - I have talked him down a bit), it should be interesting. Luckily (I guess) I got to make their characters for them after they gave me basic ideas of what they wanted. I have found that, in order to avoid massive brain hemorrages, it is easiest to start out with basics - do not include such things as levels, do not have any 'real' range modifiers, and keep to the basic EB and RKA's. Next session, I will probably introduce Range modifiers and some other attacks (Entangle, Force Walls) and continue from there.
  11. I have done many special effects with guns in the past when in the hands of a professional. Such things have included a teleport - No range usable with only the gun for instant draws, making the gun an OIF - basically if someone tries to grab it from him, he does flip-flip things and still has it and so on. I also created acrobatics skills for quick reloads of clips in 'interesting' ways. I suppose most of it is really SFX but if you want to get into the points of it all...
  12. Wonder if you could use an NND Damage shield Usable on Others with the limitation of only on inanimate objects. Basically, the person can decide to hold onto the item if they really want to suffer.
  13. Eh, I was half asleep when I wrote it so I didn't read the past ones, figurin' you were too busy gettin' ready for Hawaii...
  14. Do not name an NPC Johnson So the heroes are chatting with the local "military" about a Captain who has turned traitor and is trying to illegally capture a super by the name of Poltergeist. "So, what is his name, Major?" **Referee quickly pulls out a name from the air** "It is Captain Johnson." At this point, I saw the expression on my players faces and realized I made a mistake. "So, you are telling us you have a rogue Johnson on your hands?" "He sure is, and apparently he has a hard-on for Poltergeist..." And it just went down hill from there....
  15. I feel that if I am going to play on my computer, I might as well go buy a game and play that instead. MMORPG's are much more entertaining to me when on a computer. Don't get me wrong, I love RPG's but the face-to-face way is the only way I enjoy them.
  16. Charmed Almost any main character of a movie could be considered a 'super hero' - (ex. any Jackie Chan movie). I would say, in order to stay within some parameters of what is 'super' is that they need to have some sort of super abilities. In other words, no Batman/Gadgeteers/Martial Artists.
  17. Interesting note - a brick can pick up a car, table, etc, and make it into an AOE attack. However, someone who has grown to 3.5 hexes in height and 2 hexes wide cannot simply 'belly flop' to make an AOE attack.
  18. Heh, I wonder how easy it would be to hit that ant if'n it was busy firin' 12d6 EB's at ya. My OCV 3 self could slap Steven Segal in the head - if he wasn't expecting it.
  19. I see that there are places that are taking orders for GOO's d20 Mecha already. Dunno if these are 'pre sales' or not. Amazon.com says it was released in May 2003. You might wanna call someone. Maybe yer working on a suppliment or a revamp... Dream Pod 9 also offers a d20 Mecha Compandium - it is their first d20 gaming product. http://www.dreampod9.com and it seems to be 'almost through its second printing'.
  20. Another company beat your company to it? I'd go and check, Logan. That would SUUUUUCK!
  21. 1 Pip RKA, AOE, Penetrating, X20 Autofire with a big OCV bonus. My first thought was "How much trouble can one person cause with a 1 pip attack?" I wound up calling it the Cheese Grater.
  22. Actually, the increased damage from Growth Momentum in Shrinking is 2d6 per 10 points/level, so the division is simple there. The reduction in mass is also simple enough. Half of 1/8 is 1/16. I actually have never played in a game where the weight of a shrinking character came into necessity but even if it did, I would imagine that it would be no harder to divide by 16 as it would be to divide by 8. The only thing not easily divisible by 2 is the KB inches. And I don't know how they arrived at 3" per 10 points of shrinking to begin with. I don't see a major problem with a +1" per 5 points - especially since you do not take extra damage from the increased KB modifier from Shrinking. Size would get a little bit harder, I'll admit. But I don't think it would be too much trouble. 1.5m, 1m, .75m, .5m, .375m, .25m, etc... I am just thinking that since Growth is done in incriments of 5, why wouldn't Shrinking be done that way as well?
  23. Okey. Anyone? I managed to sneak a peek at my rulebook during lunchtime and noticed that the only thing that would stop you from purchasing shrinking in 5 point increments is the additional knockback. But you could put that at 1.5" of additional knockback per 5 points, rounding up.
  24. The FAQ states that you can use the combination of Shrinking and Growth Momentum on targets that are larger than man-size. They don't state if you can use it on man sized. Just wanted to see what was the 'upper limit' line - the height of the target or the amount a character can grow.
  25. I have only played one game of Fantasy Hero and in it played two characters in the course of things. My first one was a 12 year old son of a tailor who happened to go, on a dare, to a haunted battleground and spend the night. He witnessed the battle and when he awoke from his hiding spot in a hollowed out tree, he found a dagger next to him. The dagger granted him the ability to attack Desolidified creature but that was it. The second was an individual who was a 'bird hunter' - he went out and collected rare birds for rich buyers. He had clinging but didn't really know he did, he just thought he was a great climber. He never 'walked up a wall' but he was able to climb a cavern wall up, along the ceiling and then back down again. The character I am waiting to create is one I had always wanted to play. A thief character who stole something from the fae in order to grant himself a bit of magical abilities to help with his work. However, he is now hounded by one farie who seems to pop up at the most inopportune times. Finally deciding that the headache isn't worth the bonuses, he tries to get rid of the item but it seems to be magically bound to him. So half of his adventures now are trying to find a way to get rid of the ring and the annoying lil dit over his shoulder. But I'll haveta find a good Fantasy Hero game and GM for it.
