It couldn’t be Cranston, he didn’t wear glasses and all the illustrations had him being imperially slim. But I think you were right the first time with the girl being Nancy Drew. Everybody else is a literary detective. Annie was neither. After a close look at the picture I also think you were right about the couple on the staircase being Nick & Nora. It’s more of a dog’s face than a cat’s. I think that the colorist just made Asta the wrong color.
  2. That doesn’t work because Green Hulk doesn’t have the focused will or bravery to make a Green Lantern ring work....But if you give one to Captain America! Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, can you imagine the Shield that would produce? Mogo could take it into battle. How many dice would that shield bash be? Talk about ramming speed.

The guy in profile against the wall could be Dick Tracy, but I think the cigarette in his mouth makes him as Sam Spade. Can anybody place the strongly built guy with glasses? An obvious choice would be Clark Kent, but everyone else there but Bruce is a literary figure so I think it may be someone else. Congrats to tdkguy for the rest of the deductions!
  4. Or just in summoning the hero. Like Chuck & Nancy do when putting their rings together and bringing forth the Genie Shazzan. Basically it all about having been influenced one way or another by Captain Marvel. Elvis’s plane is there because his high collared jumpsuit look was influenced by his childhood hero Captain Marvel Jr.
  5. NO SPOILERS****NO SPOILERS*****NO SPOILERS I just got done watching the first two episodes of the new batch of Lucifer on Netflicks. The first one after you know who shows up and the musical episode. Without saying anything about the story or what songs were used... D.B. Woodside may have missed out on the Buffy musical episode but he gets a song here and my favorite song goes to Trixie. Does anybody want to do a discussion thread about the new episodes either with or without spoilers? When I first got into the show I couldn’t find a board I liked discussing the show and I don’t know anyone in the real world who watches it.
  6. Maybe try running the space/cosmic version of “You’re all in a tavern”. A sleazy space station bar, (think Quark’s or that place on Tatooine) waiting around for somebody to make contact or for a ship to arrive, or the players ship to be repaired or cleared through customs. Start with the D&D tropes and build from there. If it’s just a filler episode you don’t need to pour to much deep thought into it. By their very nature fillers are supposed to be a palette cleanser between serious adventures. Just have fun, that goes for you as well as the players.
  7. When this song came out originally when I was a kid (Gilbert O’Sullivan?) I loved it and had the 45. (Yes I’m a big sissy girly man) But looking at the words now...in this day and age....#MeToo and all that brings with it...does this strike anybody else as potentially creepy?
  8. Once upon a time, many moons ago during the ‘90’s I played alongside someone who spent a lot of time and effort into creating his perfect version of a Batman like character. It was more than 75 points ahead of the rest of the group’s characters but since he was the primary GM and said it was only being used as an NPC that he could occasionally play the rest of us just had to deal with it during the times that the game became “Batman & his six Robins”. Eventually we found the way to keep him in line was that whenever he got a little too much to deal with, our characters would start calling him Darkwing...referring to him as the terror that flaps in the night...asking him if it was time to “get dangerous”...humming the song. Both player and character got the message and eased up. Thanks for the memory.
  9. I was referring to the cover of JLA/Avengers #4 where this happens in the story. I’ve said before I don’t have the skills to put that pic here, but if somebody else wants to...
  10. Superman with Mjolnir and Captain America’s shield beats EVERYBODY. Especially when drawn by George Perez.
  11. You gotta put some of the blame for that on Michelle Forbes who played Ro. They were setting up her character to be the second in command in the the new show Deep Space 9. She decided that she didn’t want to commit to a full time series so the writers scrambled to create the character Major Kira Nerys. I did think that what they did with Wesley was a better and more fitting plot thread pay off than him just being another Starfleet officer.
  12. Very good but I prefer “There are three certain things in life: death, taxes and the fact that the guy in charge of the government is an idiot.”
  13. If it’s slow getting rescue robots to Omaha, how tough is it going to be to get some help to places like Puerto Rico? Think of the earthquake and tsunami damage around the world that would have no help other than supers and maybe even some villains who might have a soft spot for that corner of the world.
  14. They really can’t be a knock off of the Fourth World since Jack Kirby created both groups.. He left DC then went back to Marvel but still had ideas he wanted to do for the New Gods.
  15. How about the idea that the dismemberment and scattering of a being so ancient and powerful that every sentient race in the cosmos has a racial memory imprinted in their consciousness and a resulting story/myth in their history?
  16. There’s an app you can get for your I-phone for a Brian Blessed alarm clock. You can find out what it sounds like on YouTube. Imagine him shouting you awake every morning.
  17. A phrase you never want to hear from your DM....”Your party is set upon by a hoard of zombies riding their war flamingos!”
  18. Is there any kind of set up, storyline or whatever to who we pick or why they’re there? Otherwise it just seems like pricking a bunch of characters at random. And if we’re doing that than how do you choose who made the best choices? Or are we supposed to come up with our own story for why these people came together?
  19. Only if he doesn’t know the words. 😇
  20. You would want to be really careful when introducing them, because it won’t take much for some wise-@$$ player to intone “The Powers of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Heart and when combined become Captain Planet!!!” I’ve lost control of a game a couple of times when an unfortunate turn of phrase let one of my players crack up the group and once that happens it’s very tough to get things back onto a serious track.
  21. Granted. I was just having a little fun about the sentence structure. If anyone was offended or any feelings were hurt, then I certainly apologize, but I truly just thought it sounded funny.
  22. Well, you don’t generally see somebody eight feet tall with four arms and tentacles out of the back of their heads standing in line at the supermarket. Not without people talking anyway...screaming, calling in the National Guard, whatever. Your original question as I mentioned wasn’t “What would you like to play?” Like in a role playing game. It was “What would you like to be?” Implying that you meant in this real world of ours. Like one of those “What superpower would you like to have?” kind of discussion starter questions. So I took the question literally just for fun. If you truly want to be eight feet tall with four arms and tentacles.....then I’m resigning from the conversation.
  23. Dear Sveta8, I really like your take on this question. While I might have answered above in a flip manner your more serious take leads me to think more deeply about the subject. The original question wasn’t “What would you like to play?”. It was “What would you like to be?”. And TheNaga’s answer was something that could never function in this world, so I answered the way I did. But you delved into what makes someone an alien and what viewpoints an alien would have. I’ve played alien characters a few times before and I’ve always had the most fun with the ones where I built a society and way of thinking for each people.
  24. Oooooooookay......You go with the thing that looks like Culthullu banged the Brood Queen from Aliens and she failed to take proper pre-natal care. Meanwhile I’ll choose a Kheran from the Wildstorm Comics universe. The two prime examples are Mr. Majestic and Zealot. This basically makes them Kryptonians without all those annoying disads.
