    Guys,

This thread is about folks posting their collection of HERO books, NOT discussing opinions on the state of the game.

Please start a new thread OR continue in one of the several other existing threads with that type of topic.

    Thanks!

I think this is an admin setting--which appears to be all-or-nothing for all posts containing an attachment or from shared media.

Ah, now I remember why I stopped posting here for a few years... jerks.

Was there really a reason for that kind of insult? Seriously? We're expressing opinions on entertainment.

I've been on the HERO boards since Feb. 2003. I mostly hang out in the back row nowadays, but have been known to post every once in a while (sometimes it's even something that's actually constructive).

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? Aylwin Grimboud was a character in a long-running Fantasy HERO game. He started out as the son of a middle-class armorer, but became a knight/mage who eventually became the consort of the Queen. And the 13 is my lucky number.

What was the first tabletop RPG you played?  I played in a pick-up game of AD&D 2E at the public library. Borrowed a 1st level dwarf from the GM, and was killed by an air elemental in the first encounter.

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?  Champions.

What are you currently playing/GMing?  I am currently between games. My HERO GM moved out of state, and with HERO Central gone those games are kaput.

When did you start to play Hero?  I picked up the 2nd Edition Champions Box set in the Spring 1982. HERO has been my game of choice pretty much ever since.

They should remember this is GIRL power not GRRL power (how I heard Batgirl in a recent animated described). Supergirl embraces the fact that she is a girl (after Cat Grant helped her with that). She owns it. She doesn't hate herself for not being male. Recognizing that there are differences is not feminism (in fact, it's rather the opposite of feminism).

    Technically true.

    Yes.

There is no "free" base for Mental Defense (5E and below). If you bought Mental Defense, you got to add your EGO/5 (5ER 200).
Starting in 6E, there are no free points based on your EGO if you buy Mental Defense.

Any character that I post here is based on RAW as I understand it. To do otherwise gives worthless characters and ones that don't work as advertised

Which is a nice house rule (see 6E1 319).

This is also a great demonstration of why all of the characters posted on the forums (or elsewhere) by various folks can't just be taken at face value. We always need to evaluate them for our particular game. There are far too many unstated assumptions (house rules, grandfathered rules from previous editions, campaign limits, etc.) to just take a character and use it without surprise. That doesn't make the characters wrong, just built for a specific use case.

Caveat Emptor. You get what you pay for. Insert appropriate saying here.

I think 4th and 5th added Ego/5 to whatever you purchased at least my 5th ED Hero Designer Template does. You just didn't get it for free.

I'm really uncomfortable with this line of reasoning. Frankly, there is nothing in HERO that requires high IQs, though there might be a correlation between people with a STEM focus and HERO system mastery. My hypothesis has more to do with the way that information is presented than anything else; simply put, until 6th edition, HERO has had a very dense presentation, and that's just not an effective way to communicate information to everybody. For some learning styles, it's great!

But it is entirely disingenuous - and frankly unworthy of this community - to posit that people who "get" hero quickly must have a higher IQ than others.

Absolutely. It also follows that those who've played the longest are smarter than those who took longer to realize the greatness of the system.

Wish I could work my mojo better. I used to convert people all the time, now my whole gaming group seems to want to play Savage Worlds now, because its easier.  Maybe I should break out the construction paper and crayons, make some pictures with glitter so they like the game better.
