  1. Re: Skills? How many points are normal? You could certainly justify spending that many points on skills. On the other hand, I don't really think that the given concept demands that many skill points either. Couldn't PS: Auto-mechanic be enough, especially since it doesn't seem like he's qualified to make extensive modifications to machines in general? Is a first aid certification really justification for a full stat based roll on Paramedics? And then there's the hobby skills. I'm not of the opinion that every single thing a character does or knows merits a skill. Sure, this hypothetical guy has some familarity with Vegas from his vacations there. But how much of an advantage does he really have over someone who's just checking out the hotels online? The mechanical difference between possessing a skill and not having it is rather vast (40% at the lowest versus 0). Infinite skill proliferation is an easy way to run up the cost of characters. You just spent 18 points on basically a standard normal (0 points) without getting into stats and such. It's very easy to spend points on skills if that's what your setting out to do, but that doesn't really mean that it's always going to be warranted. Of course, by the same token, it's also pretty easy to justify not spending points on skills.
  2. Re: How would you use Gravitar? Sigh. This thread was illy named...
  3. Re: How would you use Gravitar? Charismatic and wealthy? Sounds like she has a future in politics - after all, she might as feel get some practice for after she takes over the world. If her ID is blown, she may be able to spin her battles against Eurostar and other foreign supers/military into some kind of pro nationalist thing to get people to back her. Besides, inventing devices based on gravity, she could use her gravitic powers to fuel inventions. She could use her powers to create controled mini singularities for power sources, or to create gravtic lenses, manufacture super dense materials, etc by using them as a kind of shortcut. That deathray only looks half finished...
  4. Re: How to steal a comm link You could ask the GM to write up enemy comms using Radio Senses with Transmit or something, since Mind Link comms are supposed to be secure (on the mechanical level, not the setting one).
  5. Re: Good limitations for sonic based powers Some extra power, only through water?
  6. Re: Storn Art from idea to full picture Year 3 ... That's right. I think your picture gave me that idea a 'long time' ago. I'm an idiot.
  7. Re: Storn Art from idea to full picture Year 3 We've had a number of ice based ideas, so I'd like to present my own: Frostflame, an energy projector with powers over hot and cold. She generally shoots fire stuff with one hand, and does ice stuff with the other, so her costume could be like some stylish parka thing on the cold side, which thins across her body to the more traditional and revealing skintight spandex.
  8. Re: The Things I've Learned Playing Team Leader... No one will take you seriously if you abandon your own plan the instant you start to execute it. If you aren't going to follow the plan, no one else will.

  10. Re: So the King is a Vampire The vampire king in Eberron is evil, but he's more of the normal politician kind of evil than the enslave the world kind of evil. And he's pro peace. The goodly queen wants to kick off another world war.
  11. Re: WWYCD: Unholy Matrimony... Some people are though. Just because she was a victim/virgin sacrifice doesn't mean she was a good person. We don't exactly have a whole lot to go on regarding her character, but the "Amanda=bad" theory fits the available evidence without requiring extra stuff going on behind the scenes that characters haven't detected.
  12. Re: how to build: highlander-ish soul catching Kill someone -> Get XP -> get new abilities.
  13. Re: WWYCD: Unholy Matrimony... Because she gets to be an immortal, unstoppable Shadow Queen? The deal seems to have some pretty obvious benefits for her.
  14. Re: Brainstorm: The Black Paladin Recruits! He must have run out of magic weapons and armor or something.
  15. Re: WWYCD in the event of an approaching army Laura can stand against armies; it's one of her specialties actually. If pretty much everyone wasn't magically cursed to think that she's dead, they so wouldn't have said that. "Fine. Now I don't have to worry about hitting you parasites with my spells." She'll launch a quick barrage to them and some soldiers, then 'port out. It's not worth revealing her new tricks with War Magic, any custom spells, or dipping heavily into her defensive reserve to protect these people if they're not even going to try. Someone might be trying to draw her out, or exhaust her spells. ------------------------------------ Komorak will use his amazing speed to attempt to draw off the attacking forces so the people can escape. They'll need to send dozens of normal guys to drag him down, and he can outrun horses, so taking him out is a major operation. He'll also be looking for any massive fires (likely started by big area spells), and will try to get in touch with one of his friends who can hear a few words after someone says his name. Once the party gets back together, they'll stand a fighting chance. Or they'll be able to escape. If things get really bad, he'll try to buy enough time to hide his magic items so after he dies the baddies won't get them. Then after he gets better, he can recover them.
  16. Re: WWYCD: Lost in a world without Supers; 9/11/2001 Unfortunately, Laura spends her time working on a way to breach the dimensional barrier trapping her. Getting pinned down, possibly forever, in a boring dimension isn't her idea of a good time. Considering the population sizes involved, the loss of a few thousand strangers is tragic, but not disastrous. She's not going to be around to nursemaid these undeveloped civilizations (because they don't have magic ) forever; it's a nation's responsibility to defend itself - she's got herself covered. It'd different if something outside was attacking; it'd be more than a little unfair to expect this world to defend against a demon or super. Now if she meets and likes someone who will probably suffer from the attack, or someone insinuates that she's weak or something, then things change. Depending on how much time is left, her actions might range from scrying and disappearing the attackers, to porting into the planes and reasserting control, to throwing up indestructable force walls directly in their path moments before impact.
  17. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith When a super hero gives up his life stopping some horrible event, it's a heroic sacrifice. When one of these normal guys gives up his/her life to stop the horrible event, it's an evil human sacrifice. The super hero way is just more random - they might not die, but they also might fail.

  19. Re: Compensating for PC Abilities In a mystery story, the PCs have to get clues in order to proceed. Mental Powers, just like investigation skills, are a way for the PCs to get clues so they can act. Sitting around with clueless characters isn't much fun for the players or the DM.

  21. Re: Concepts you wish your players would play He must have needed a bunch of STR to carry all those guns around.
  22. Re: "Look, up in the sky! It's Super Saint!" Christian-themed heroes In a game with other supernatural and mythological elements, not having stuff relating to mainstream religions is just as big of a potential issue, I'd think.
  23. Re: Hybrid Characters Those too. The point is, even someone like martial manhunter has a variety of reasons for teaming up.
  24. Re: Hybrid Characters Well, the obvious reason to team up is that even someone with a wide range of powers can get stomped solo. Against enemy teams, his action deficet - even with a big SPD - can be a big problem, and if hit with a lucky incapacitation effect, that's it. Against a solo heavy hitter, he probably won't be able to withstand being the only target. And Speedy's surprising versatility is only going to be a surprise the first time.
  25. Re: Hindu-themed hero The book Lord of Light has some interesting ideas in this area. See if your library has it.
