  1. FWIW: I was searching on the old boards and found this thread. No idea if it's useful for you at all. http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000102.html D
  2. Wish me luck everyone, I'm going to piss off Legal. The memo that came with the "Policy on Employee Transactions" that we have to sign and return annually said February 4th. Today we got a pissy Email about not having returned everything by the 31st of January. So, I'm sending them an email about it. D
  3. Bwahahahahaha. That's a joke right? The worst arguments ever on these boards have always been Gaming Related stuff. There are more, smaller flamewars on the NGD board, sure. But, the big, big arguments are always right here in the Champions or Rules boards. D
  4. Re: Power Scale of Viper vs. UNTIL a little off? Hee. Director Matthews and Director Jones from VIPER Legal and VIPER PR, respectively, come for a visit with Agent Maddog and have a little talking to him about the Image and Legal problems with using a "real gun". "Viper carrying blaster weapons is a "criminal organization". Viper carrying fully automatic "real guns" down the street becomes a military group, to be wiped out by the military." "Viper carrying real guns and using them get busted for "assault with a deadly weapon", whereas blasters are "non-lethal" technology (just ask the UNTIL people who use it too) and so carry a lesser penalty under law." And Director Arthur from Quartermaster's.... "Viper has many many more standard agents than Until does. Hence, their standard gun is slightly weaker than the one Until uses. Good agents get better guns. So, become a Heavy Weapons Agent, so you can carry one of the nice 14d6 EBs." D
  5. Depends on the Age, actually. If you're running a Golden or Silver age campaign, sure. if you're running an Iron age campaign, probably not. If you're running a Bronze age campaign, then maybe, depending on how the GM emphasises the power of the normals. Since Champions Universe seems to default to a Silver Age shading to the Bronze Age, IMO, yes the world beaters should be able to thrash the military. But, the rules don't necessarily support that, since Hero System is ageless and generic. Hence, various people's "normal things take extra damage from supers" that have been thrown around. x2 Vulnerability or Automatic Maximum Damage are two choices I like. For a Silver Age game. D
  6. You know things are bad when Archer and Rod Currie trash the hell out of you... "I guess that one is "like" the other for wildly varying values of "like"." "Shayna, I see your grasp of the English language is as thorough and accurate as your grasp of the Hero System." LOL. I shouldn't laugh, but... D
  7. I read the first couple of sentances, where the Reviewer talked about being Flamed by the Current and Past ownership of the company. Right there, that tells you This is NOT going to be objective by anybody's stretch of the imagination. Second Paragraph, "settingless version of Champions, a superhero combat wargame" Noooo. No bias here. I started skimming from there. It vaguely attempts to pretend to be a review, but it's obvious that the person disliked Hero, bought the book and "didn't see anything to change his mind". It's chock full of errors in what the rules actually say. She obviously didn't read it. She obviously didn't play it. And she obviously just wanted to do a hack job. Obviously, a fool with an axe to grind. Obviously not worth my time anymore. D
  8. Are they listed as 5 point levels? From Fred pg 36: "Characters can buy the 5 point CSL (snip), or +1 OCV or DCV with a related group of HTH and Ranged attacks (such as "U.S. Army Infantry Weapons" or "All Martial Arts Weapons")." From the FAQ: "Q: If a character has a 3-point Combat Skill Level with, say, Energy Blast, can he apply that CSL to his DCV on any Phase, or only Phases when he uses his EB? A: A character can only allocate a CSL on a Phase when he uses an attack/power that CSL applies to. So, in the example given above, the CSL can only be assigned to DCV on Phases when the character uses his EB. __ Q: If a character has 3-point Combat Skill Levels with, e.g., Punch, Claw, and Grab, can those Levels only add to DCV against those three specific Maneuvers, or against any HTH Combat attack? A: They can provide DCV against any HTH Combat attack. __ Q: If a character buys a three-point CSL with a single weapon that has both HTH and Ranged uses, can he apply that Level to improve his DCV against any sort of attack? A: If a character has bought a 3-point CSL with a specific type of weapon (e.g., some 3-point Levels for bonuses with Rapiers), then he could apply that Level to improve DCV against the type of attack (HTH or Ranged) for which he uses the Level in a given Phase. If he applies the Level to improve his OCV with throwing the Rapier in one of his Phases, then in that same Phase he could use some of the Levels to improve his DCV versus Ranged attacks, but not his DCV against HTH attacks. It’s up to the GM to decide whether the character should be allowed to Abort to use his 3-point one-weapon CSLs to provide DCV, but generally the GM should not allow this, since it makes the CSLs too much like 5-point Levels." I would assume that since she's got 5 point levels with her Gravitic Powers, when she's using her Gravitic Powers she could assign them to OCV or DCV as she wishes. D
  9. Damn, Gadgets and Gear looks pretty nifty. This is going to be a fun error/math check. D
  10. sometimes mice are so darn cute. Had to go buy catfood, and while I was in the store, I stopped to watch the white mice. Three of them were running on the wheel as fast as they could. Then when the thing was cranking along, one of them would stop running and hold on, getting twirled along until he fell off. Then they'd do it again, with a different mouse each time. It put me in a good mood. D
  11. Since it sounds like you've got the new version, how does it compare to the pdf version? Just curious as to the extent of the changes/updates... D
  12. This one is my guess. The distributor rep probably has no clue, and doesn't want to go and bother to check. But the nice guy at the local store gives me a 25% discount. D
  13. Well, when I was in the Gaming Store on Saturday, I asked about the book. Apparently, the distributors are telling people it's not available, or somesuch nonsense. I'll start kicking the crap out of people, till I can get a book. D
  14. At one time there was a short lived DC Heroes newsletter that Mayfair produced. It has some sort of "featured gadget" section. One day, it had "Clark Kent's Glasses" as a Gadget. Using a rough approximation, there's a 5 to 1 correlation between Hero Active Points and DC Hero points. The glasses had "Illusion:186" with a limit of "Can only make Superman look like Clark Kent" or somesuch. Apparently, nobody told the DC Heroes people that they retracted it... D
  15. Hmmm, The Spectre of Death. No really. Long ago (circa 1980--pre Champs) I created a character Pulsar, who had been blown up and trapped in between dimensions. He could project an energy version of himself back into our dimension, and channel energy powers back through. Well, when I got the Champions 4th edition book, I look through it, and decided to create that old idea. And lo and behold, there already was a character named Pulsar. So, I tweaked the concept, and had the character be able to manipulate his projected form, giving himself desolidification/density increase/Teleportation/energy projection powers (all 4, in a pretty big multipower). I tweaked the background some, and decided that with a limitation of "mysterious and secretive" he'd need to be ... well, mysterious and secretive. So, I cobbled together a picture based on a cross using the Moon Knight's cape and mask set up, and the Punisher's blue bodysuit with skull motif, and used that as my character. But I forgot the most important thing of all, a character name. D'oh. So, I just appeared, and one of the players said, "Ohmighod, it's the Spectre of Death." And, hence that became his name. He's not my first superhero, but he's my first Champions character. D
  16. You've never gotten married have you? Not even the Craziest MF in the world will sit through trying to pick china patterns after picking the Invitations, the style and color of the bridesmaid's dresses, the venue, the menu, the number of bridesmaids, the seating chart for all the guests, all in a row. But if she wouldn't do that.... The only other thing is to distract him with someone else. Someone who needs a sidekick or a date or something. Another teammate? GM's favorite NPC? >If you're a little less true blue, set him up as a Celebrity Bachelor in a Charity Auction. >Someone will buy him. Worse yet would be tricking him into a crime, then busting him for it. >Tell Pulsar that Foxbat's been sending love letters to Morgan Fairchild and let the lunatics fight it out. For that matter, set him up on a Date with Green Dragon's sister. Watch the fun ensue. D
  17. Damnit, I should have went to Logan's Roadhouse with the people from work. They got to sit next to Steve McNair. D
  18. nonononoNo. "No sex, not till after marriage, which simply must be held in "X Cathedral". And I need to invite my 43 bridesmaids, and I'd really like *this* dress from *that* magazine. What do you think would go with that, the teal or the vermillion?" Oh, yeah, drag out a book of invitations, and ask him to pick colors and typefaces and styles. It works better if you're a prop kinda guy, and drag out the Modern Bride magazines at the table and show them to the GM. Most men go comatose when confronted with actually having to plan the wedding. If the GM starts drooling, so much the better... ____ Get a dog and name it after him. Papillon's are nice, 'cause they got the right ears. "This is my dog Foxbat. I'm sorry, I can't date you, it would be confusing to my little man." I'll see what more I can come up with. D
  19. I was waiting until the player characters came up with a good enough plausible enough explanation, then voila, I was going to reward their detective work with having "found the correct answer". So, I don't really have an answer, although I too was leaning toward making Mechanon and Ultivac related in some way. D
  20. Barry White re-recorded it. If you'd have said Barry White singing, I'd have had no problem. You said Barry White Score... And that, to me working in that field with those particular writers, Barry White wrote it, and that's not true. Isaac Hayes really wrote it, and gets the writer credit. So, I'm perhaps being pedantic. But, it's my job to make sure that the right writer gets paid for the right song... D
  21. Um, that's Isaac Hayes who did the theme from Shaft. D
  22. My condolences to the lady. She sounds nice. Karmic Debt from a past life? D
  23. Truly, that is proof there is someone out there for everyone... D
  24. On guy 1: The costume looks like Captain Patriot in the CU. So, I'd probably end up making him a legacy hero and using the same name. I like the stars. On guy 2: Do you have an Ankh in your world? Seems simple and direct. D
  25. C'mon Sudafed. I've got a sinus headache so bad that I want to tear my right eye out with a coffee stirrer. D
