  1. contiuned again... So, we got up on saturday, and went over to Grandma's (Mom's mom) to fix up the house some. She's trying to convince everyone that she's fine by herself. So, we got down the chairs, got out the tables, got things arranged, and then went home for breakfast. Got breakfast, then my bro and his kids came over, and we had Christmas. Got the X-men2 dvd. CJ got a blanket. Got Bret a RC car and "the blue sword", Serena got "Swan Princess Barbie" and a playset for the same. We got Andy and Dana some chocolate Liquors. Ha. Went over to Grandmas, hung out with that side of the family (which we visit more often, and so got to talk about more than "what you been doing in the four years since we saw you?" Of cource, that means that the conversations revolve around the redneck triumverate...Trucks, Football, and Deer Hunting) Found out that Megan was pregnant again. She's 20, has 3 kids from 3 different fathers. Sigh. The Men were out on the porch talking about the new Hemi in the Dodge truck, and whether Uncle Mac should get one, or stick with the Cummings Turbodiesel when he gets his new truck. We shuttled around between groups, talking to people, listening in, getting caught up, and generally having fun. Had lunch, which was good. Grandma announced that this was her last Thanksgiving, and that if anyone wanted a big thanksgiving get together, they'd have to have it at their house. Go Grandma! Listened to the guys talk about Football for a while, then got involved with the card playing. Some new card game Aunt Carrie found somewhere. Of cource, she was the only person who knew the rules, so she kept "remembering" new ones as things happened in the game. More conversations, more fun. Eventually, we chased everyone out, and went home. Got up on Sunday, drove ten hours, avoiding the idiots (of which there were lots of them) and got home safe and sound. Picked up the cat from her keeper, and a spare (our pet sitter is the director of our animal shelter, and she needed a fosterer for a cat). Spent yesterday picking up, doing laundry and shopping. Came back to work today. Doing CMT. Damn, I hate country music. D
  2. continued... Friday, Got up and did the traditional After Thanksgiving Sales Trip with mom and my wife. We went to Walmart, where else. And Menards, which is like Home Depot or Lowe's, but more ... countryfied, I guess. I've always been surprised that Menards never made a go of the south, they're purely a northern midwestern thing. Bought dad and granddad their gifts. Plus Staples, to look at All in One Printer/Scanner/Copiers for mom. Oh, yeah, and Barnes and Noble to get a book for Bret. (my nephew. Yes, he is named for Bret Hart, why did you ask?) It started snowing. Which was really pretty, but kinda sucked. I became a Southerner to avoid the snow. So, we went home, found out that dad was going over to his parents (the ones that yesterday commented that they didn't get enough time to talk to us). So, we went with dad over to their house. Art (Aunt Linda's live in, remember?) came over to use the big barn, and the grinder because his son forgot to tighten the lug nuts on his truck tires after switching over to the snow tires and stripped the lug screws. That was fortunate, because it gave Dad and me a chance to go inside and work on the toilet. We gave Grandma her present, and she opened it. (Snowglobe Christmas tree ornaments). Says I, "That's the other half of your gift, you already got the bamboo." Says Grandma, "Bamboo?" Says My Wife, "When Mom came down and visited, we sent up an arrangement of bamboo for you?" Chimes in my dad, "Grandpa said for mom to keep it, that grandma would just kill it, so there wasn't any point." Says my wife and I, "wish mom had told us that, we would have gotten more gift." Sigh. Thanks Mom! Fixed the toilet, Art fixed the truck, had a nice visit (these were the grandparents I didn't get along with, it's nice to be able to talk with them again). Went back home, got Mom, went to Mike's for pizza (Dad's best friend owns a Pizza Parlor). Went home, CJ and I fixed mom's computer (ID10T error, primarily) and we went to bed. To be continued... D
  3. Ok, so I go to the family Homestead for the Thanksgiving Festivities. Four Generations of both sides of my family live within an hour of each other. Firstly, the ten hour car trip. Indiana. What can you say. Thursday, we had thanksgiving at my Aunt Linda's house. She just got the Gastric Bypass done, and she's lost tons of weight. Didn't even recognize her. Can't eat more than a thimbleful of food at one time, and can't eat and drink at the same time or else it messes up her digestion something fierce. Everyone was very fun and welcoming. Talked to my cousins, and didn't even have to throw one of them down the stairs, like in years past. Spent some time talking to Aunt Linda's Live In's Mother. Interesting lady. Made a point of telling me how happy she was to be retired and living in a home. Didn't get to talk to Grandpa and Grandma much, and Grandpa commented on that when we were leaving. Ate a reasonable amount, but not too much food. All in all, it was a fun day. To be continued... D
  4. Re: Anybody ever pull a "Kobayashi Maru"? If the players know first, and are amenable, sure. That would require sort of knowing what's going on/what's going to happen to some extent. Let me know why/or that there's a really good reason, and you can red-shirt my character like there's no tomorrow. If not, no go. Lots of players, me included, put lots of loving care into their character, and having him wacked because the GM gets "a Kewl Idea" isn't copacetic. D
  5. From the Great Old Boards A list of sciences. Pick one that looks cool... http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000241.html Chaos Theorist doesn't seem to be on the list (admittedly a quick glance) D
  6. Re: Is this how naked advantages work? Yep. Looks good to me. D
  7. Big thumbs up from me. Thanks! D
  8. Re: Re: Re: Re: Whatcha sayin Steve, I got no life? I've got plenty of characters that are plenty tied in with PRIMUS. I think UNTIL will impress. D
  9. I think Mon did. I just have a higher Dex than you do. Thanks for the confirmation, my man. D
  10. No problem. I was a little freaked out myself, so I did some looking around. __ Apparently from the d&d 3.0 to 3.5 conversion, naming something .5 means "change just enough to mess you up, but not enough to fix things." For Hero Players, SA 1.5 seems to fit... "Hey, where's all the Hero Stuff, I've already got this flavor text." __ Anxiously awaiting version 2.0 D
  11. V 1.5 not V 2. Apparently, this is the original book, with the Hero stuff pulled, and M&M and Action stuff jammed in. What that implies to me is that the original book will be sort of necessary to using the new book, since they're going through a lot of effort to bring 1.5 to press. D
  12. On the old boards http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000538.html Here he is, in his 4th edition glory, and as a Caveat, remember that Champsguy IS the Munchkin King. WOLF QUAI CHANG!!! 13. Re: Re: Whatcha sayin Steve, I got no life? Me too, which is why I've always been a PRIMUS fan rather than an UNTIL fan. Until now. (ha ha) D
  14. The Ultimate Vehicle. You'll probably want to construct the PCs as real people/characters, rather than vehicles, but I find that TUV gave me some ideas along the "artillery/tech" lines that I wouldn't have had before. I'd just let people build their characters and use the characters as the basis for my "racial packages". One character creates the Recon/Commando, then that's the basis for character sheets for the whole line. Ditto for the Field Artillery, Attack Flier, and whoever else toddles along. D
  15. Whatcha sayin Steve, I got no life? All I got left to mathcheck is the Vehicles. Just finished the Guns and Personal Equipment. Whoo, ha! Personally, I really like this book. It's got a lot of history and law to base everything off of. One of the things that has always bothered some gamers is "how could UNTIL really exist?" DW does a fine job, IMO, of explaining that, and giving you enough international law to make working with UNTIL sound plausible (both as a GM and as a Player). The UNITY team's pretty cool, and should be fun to interact with, but not very likely to "spotlight steal" from the PCs. Nifty guns and vehicles and guns and agents and stuff. It's a good book. So far, I think it's Darren's best work. D
  16. Cheese Alert! Cheese Alert! Or, do what Bruce Harlick Did for Emissary (Plasmoid) in Enemies Assembled. Have the Absorption feed the Stun and the Absorption max. So, as you take damage you keep raising the Max so that you can keep taking damage, ad infinitum. You might be able to convince the GM that some sort of Semi-custom advantage is what you want instead. Cumulative is a +1. That might be about right. It might be more cost effective to just put on a really high cap. D
  17. Hmmm, to get around the objections "mind/no mind/electronics stuff" Buy yourself Computer Programming skill, then buy it Ranged, and buy up the range (since the active points of a skill are pretty low). You can only do what the character could accomplish normally with the Computer Programming skill, which might reduce some objections to this type of power. Computer Control Computer Programming +2 skill, Ranged (+1/2), Increased Maximum Range 2 (+1/2). 14 points. You can use your computer programming skill at (7x125)=875". D
  18. Yep. If you don't want to hurt someone seriously, the game has a few mechanics to help with that. The first is NND (no normal defence). It automatically earns the no body modifier, and goes against a non standard defense. Stun Stick: EB 6d6 NND (+1, not vs resistant ED Force Field), 16 charges (+0), (60 active) No Range (-1/2), OAF (-1), real cost 24 points. If the target has the Force Field then he takes no damage, if he does take damage, he takes 6d6 Stun, no body. You can also just take the -0 modifier "does no body" on a typical Energy Bolt. Stun Stick ii EB 12d6, Does No Body (-0), 16 charges (-0), (60 Active), No Range (-1/2), OAF (-1) real cost 24 points. Here you'd roll the 12d6, add up the stun, apply it to the ED of the target normally. You don't do any body, no matter what you roll (it also doesn't do pressure or knock back either). You can also go to Mental Powers, like Ego Attack, but that might get a little esoteric for the SFX you're looking at. D
  19. Mental Powers with the Machine class of minds work off either Ego or Int (if the machine has no Ego). You'd roll your Dice of Telepathy (or Mind Control or Mental Illusions or Mind Scan if you're looking for one particular subset of computer) and compare to the Int of the system you're messing with. If you had 12d6 Telepathy (60 active points) and rolled average (42) you'd get +32 on an Int 10 computer. Not having my Fred handy, I couldn't tell you for certain if that means you could plunder the whole system, but IIRC you can. D
  20. No, it's not. those objections were heard, and discarded, and the correct answer was placed in the FAQ as a stop gap. D
  21. This should answer any pesky questions... http://www.herogames.com/SupportFAQs/abbreviations.htm There you go. The story behind it... When the 5th edition rulebook was finally actually in our sights, we were all sitting around trying to figure what to call the thing. The 4th edition Champs book was the BBB. The 4th edition rules were the HSR. etc. Well, Steve came in and said something like, "you can call it Fred for all I care, provided you buy it." And hence, it was called Fred. D
  22. It's not just in print. Kevin Sembieda talked that way in real life. Got trapped talking to him at Gen Con one year. Not sure how long, probably 45 minutes, but it darn well felt like forever. Of cource, that was a few years ago, maybe he's changed. D
  23. Re: The Government went and took my Power Armor- A villain's lament Well, firstly, it's evidence in a court case. That means that it gets locked up in the courthouse evidence room until after the trial, and probably a little while longer than than to allow for appeals. What happens next depends on how the municipality treats it's contraband. Most places destroy it, IIRC. So, poof Armadillo's armor goes into the crusher. And ARGENT makes a fast buck on selling Armadillo a new version of his armor. Good thing he contracted with them early, huh. They got to scan his armor to be able to make a copy, he's got a backup when he gets out of the slammer. Or, perhaps, depending on the state of corruption, the same suit of armor. If a super were to get one, and keep it, and use it, that might jeopardize the case against the villian "what powered armor suit. You might get me for indecent exposure, but you've got no proof that it was me in the suit other than that guy packing it under his shoulder saying it was me." In the CU, I can see PRIMUS requisitioning the stuff after the trial is over, and ripping it apart for new ideas. But, fundamentally, Powered Armor is a type of Illegal Weapon, and would probably fall under the same laws. D
  24. Mon, I think you've just proven his point. You can get Western Shores in the FH book, and make up the rest. Or you can get the bookshelf choking plethora of FR stuff and do the conversion work. I think that Western Shores was deliberately designed to mimic the feel of the dominant product at the time. Hence, it never really appealed to me. It wasn't cool enough to warrant the time. D
