Lawnmower Boy reacted to Duke Bushido in Swords in science fiction -- why?
That has been the popular defense (and dont get me wrong; I like the sword thing, too, but I also acceot that it is entirely, because I think the anachronism is very cool. Then there are the "rule of cool is uncool" guys, and I accept that, too), but having been forced to watch most of the movies, I am exceedingly certain that a light saber would puncture a hull, etc, wtc, decompression.

I have never heard of Ike Perlmutter being a major Marvel Comics fan. I have heard that he's a notorious penny-pincher who tried to squeeze the budgets for Marvel productions for every dollar he could save, so far as to buy the cheapest food for the studio craft tables, and not reusing Marvel movie themes (a common complaint about Phase One and Two Marvel movies) because it worked out to be cheaper to pay for a new score for each one. The reports I read as to why Perlmutter was pushed out of executive direction of Marvel movies, is that Kevin Feige was tired of fighting with Perlmutter over budgets, so went over his head to Bob Iger to get full creative control. Perlmutter remained in charge of Marvel's television division. If you want to see his "love" for the genre, check out the production values for Inhumans.

Does anyone need anything before we set out? Speak up now; we won't be able to get anything once we cross over to Mordor.

Lawnmower Boy reacted to Old Man in old books
As ordained and foretold, the holy books have returned to he who was meant to possess them. Go forth, now, and convert the masses, that they shall know the Word of Hero and be freed from the bonds of classes, levels, and dice with too many sides.

Lawnmower Boy reacted to HeroGM in old books
So when I got out of prison and even before I picked up some hero books. While at a half-way house my parole officer revoked me. The owners refused to give me belongings to a friend citing "rent due" even though they hoarded my money in their bank account. So all books, clothes, family photos from prison or brought after disappeared.
The point. Going to the LGS here I see some used Hero books...APG 1 & 2. After I pay and have lunch I really look and guess what!! They had been sitting there for 6-7 years. The store had 4 more Hero books and after looking at my store purchases I'm laying odds they were mine too.

Glass cannon characters like Cyclops are great in comics because everything is controlled by the writer and the bad guys almost never show any real smart tactical behavior. They don't work as well in games, because the PCs go after that guy right away, and GMs will put bad guys on everyone, and a weak character can fold up pretty fast with a lucky agent shot.

Then Thor: Love and Thunder has already achieved "breakeven" against its production cost of $250M and anything it earns henceforth is gravy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box-office_bomb
A box-office bomb, box-office flop, or box-office failure is a film that is unprofitable or considered highly unsuccessful during its theatrical run. Although any film for which the production, marketing, and distribution costs combined exceed the revenue after release has technically "bombed", the term is more frequently used for major studio releases that were highly anticipated, extensively marketed and expensive to produce that ultimately failed commercially.
Eternals: The general rule of thumb for a film's breakeven point is its production budget doubled. Budget for Eternals was $200 million and worldwide gross was $400 million - so it 'broke even'. It has the 2nd worst domestic gross in MCU history behind Incredible Hulk (one could argue this wasn't even really a true MCU movie), the 2nd worst domestic opening behind Ant-Man (a Phase 3 movie) and is the only Marvel studios movie to have a 'Rotten' score on Rottentomatoes. Also, compared to GotG (which is also a ensemble movie of unknown characters) - it has less than half the domestic gross.

Lawnmower Boy reacted to Pariah in The cranky thread
LGP and I are at the hospital dealing with a large fecal blockage. She hasn't had a real bowel movement in 4-5 days. The plan is for them to administer a saline/glycerin enema to get it out. If that doesn't work, they'll have to put her under and go in and break up the mass.
She's going to hate it, either way. But she's been so miserable for the last 24 hours, so it has to be done.
Any inclination toward prayers, good vibes, or positive energy that any of you might care to send this direction would be greatly appreciated.

Lawnmower Boy reacted to Lord Liaden in DC Movies- if at first you don't succeed...
Joker has always been a prime candidate for "harmless-looking but deadly" thematic gimmicks, and various incarnations of the character over the decades have actually used them: lethal-voltage hand joy buzzer, acid-squirting lapel flower, thrown bladed playing cards, exploding juggling props or party favors, gun that projects a "Bang!" flag but then shoots the flag stick for lethal penetration, and of course several delivery methods for his trademark "Joker venom" that makes its victim literally die laughing.
Once you accept the premise of a guy fighting crime in a bat suit, all that other stuff is just extension of the convention.
