  1. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? Plus, we're talking about combat velocity which is already slower than non-combat under the assumption that the person isn't just trying to go balls to the wall straight ahead. Just because the mini moves 8" straight ahead doesn't mean the character was moving perfectly straight. 2 meters is a lot of room to play around with while moving forward. You can easily juke side-to-side while running forward and not violate that distance laterally.
  2. Re: Relativistic Effects of Interstellar War And since this does occur in space, their is no frontier for the war to be conducted in. Either side can send a fleet at any star in the others "Empire". And not all ideas or innovations will spread out from the home world to the "frontier". Some will ripple from the various frontier or middle worlds outward. So it might be possible for the enemy to improve their technology before the defenses of the other sides homeworld are updated.
  3. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? If it doesn't hurt, why learn to get out of the way.
  4. Re: Urban Fantasy: Warnings Kindred: The Embraced (1996) Vampire clans definitely sound like those from V:tM as well as the hidden behind the veil kind of thing. Forever Knight (1989-1996)
  5. Re: Looking for a copy of "Lands of Mystery" Well, I have a program that I use to "snipe" auctions on ebay. So, I don't have to be at a computer as the auction ends, but it has to be running on one with a Net connection at the time. I give it the auction, what I'm willing to pay and how close to the end of the auction to snipe at and walk away
  6. Re: Masterful Ambush And someone might be able to either find the reference or correct me if I'm wrong, but damage to a target caught out of combat (e.g. an ambush) results in hits doing double damage (I think we apply it after defenses). So, those headshots just become nasty in an ambush.
  7. Re: Pulp Hero and Sidekick Go see Indiana Jones and you'll have Pulp all in one shot
  8. Re: Social resolution mechanics for Hero Presence and Ego seem to be the two good counters (force of personality and one's sense of self)
  9. Re: Social resolution mechanics for Hero Well, they don't resist with an 11- unless they also have seduction or appropriate counter skill. They roll against the 8- fam with that skill
  10. Re: How do you visualize combat? A miss is a miss. An attack that does no damage is one that fails to do more damage than the defenses of the target. Someone who is Stunned... well, depends on the NPC and where he was hit. Stun him and hit him in the leg... down he goes. Take out his arm, hope the item in that hand was strapped on. In the chest, well, he might stagger back a step or two, but that doesn't even come close to moving him out of his hex. No knockback or knockdown generally (Heroic games instead of superhero).
  11. Re: Masterful Ambush And your targets will be at half DCV and half hit-locations for called shots if caught unaware.
  12. Re: What is Your Inner Character? I am a Sexy Shoeless God of War Chaotic Evil Halfling Rogue!
  13. Re: Knockback "realistic"? I guess I saw the guys falling through windows or out the doors as the effect of a stunned person more than an idea of knockback. Knockback sounds more like what Supes does when he slugs a guy and he skids back into/through a wall and not under his own power.
  14. Re: Knockback "realistic"? What westerns use knockback? All the ones I've seen would use something more akin to knockdown than knockback. Guy charging at our hero gets shot by his .44 and his feet keep going forward while his torso comes to a halt... lands flat on his back...
  15. Re: Sidekick versus Hero could be the Macros are disabled by your copy of Excel because of its security settings.
  16. Re: Game of Thrones Well, the hard part of things like court politics and creating intrigue is the fact that subtle things are what drive it. Who knows what about whom. Who owes whom favors and at what strength vs their own convictions. What subtle slights has one person given another (even as subtle as where one sat at an event). Hell, people can hold grudges for quite some time and just be waiting to repay a slight in spades when a good opportunity arises (Catelyn Stark and her eldest son for his marrying a lesser girl when he had made a promise of marrying another families daughter as the price of their support).
  17. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? Megascale might be cheaper, but you need a second advantage or you can't go a part of the movement. So if you make it 1" = 1km, then you have to go at least 1km for each inch of the movement power you try to use. Not very useful for going 200m as you would overshoot by 800m, heheh. hmm, how much farther could the young weight lifting Arnold throw a baseball vs a high school pitcher? What about a shot put? Unfortunately there is a lot more to strength than just how much pure mass one can pick up, heheh.

  19. Re: Game of Thrones And there are the few that like both My book collection runs a wide gamut of SciFi/Fantasy, Mystery, Technothrillers, etc... as well as a huge collection of non-fiction books on math, physics, biology, history, etc...
  20. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? Being stunned also has other meanings to people than just the term from the HERO System. If I described my character as being stunned are you sure I'm referring to the technical term or me role-playing the act of his eyes popping open and jaw hitting the floor, heheh. The group I'm in uses Con stunned and unconscious which makes it easier for someone to say they are stunned and not mean losing an action that phase
  21. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? D6 Star Wars had that (think it was added to 1st in one of the combat addons and was made part of core in 2nd Ed) and the current D6 System has Scale built-in for dealing with weapons and objects of different sizes. D20 seemed to use huge scaling of dice for larger vehicles (e.g. an Strike Cruiser did 5d10 x 5 damage with its weapons). Not really the same thing as Dice Caps (D6 SW 2nd Ed), Dice pool increase/decrease for scale difference (D6 SW 2nd Ed Revised & Expanded) or flat Scale difference (Current D6 System).

  23. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? Vehicles and vehicle combat.
  24. Re: Multiform AP limit of 60 would give you one form at 300pts, 2 at 275pts, 4 at 250pts and so on. So, the more forms you want to have the weaker each one is and they are fixed in form. If you want to play someone like Morph or Mystique, then you are really looking for the Shapeshift power rather than Multiform.
  25. Re: portional speed HD seems perfectly willing to let me buy up my Dex and it moves the SPD up just fractionally. If I buy SPD it only does whole numbers and pays the difference.
