  1. Re: Cosmic Centurions As a bit of a boost, I've posted The Starkillers on the "Create a Villain Theme Team" thread. These guys ought to give the Centurions a bit of a challenge.
  2. Re: Create a Villain Theme Team! Darn it, I had a great idea and Lucius took it. Fortunately I have a backup. Lucian Arrow was a simple, modest clockmaker with an uncanny sense of time. Such was his skill that he could synchronize all of the clocks in his shop to tick in unison. As a hobby, as well as a way to keep up his health, he loved to meditate, contemplating the wonders of the cosmos. Then, one fateful day, he tapped into a mysterious energy that suddenly enabled him to move at incredible speeds. He had never been an altogether honest businessman, so he saw this as an opportunity. Using his great speed, he could sabotage his competitors and provide himself with an unshakable alibi. He could literally run across town -- or even to a neighboring town -- and do his dirty deeds and be right back in a half-second. The police suspected him at first, but he set up his alibi by interrupting one of their interviews with him to commit one of his raids. They believed him, until they figured out that the vandal was a speedster -- then his alibi was broken. Since then, he's been in hiding, working with the Violators to help exact his revenge on the police, feed his obsession with clocks, and destroy his rivals, as... The Tick! New group: The Starkillers Members: 5 These are cosmic-level interstellar villains meant to be enemies of the Cosmic Centurions (as described in other threads). Their mutual goal is to destroy that organization, and enslave the galaxy. I will leave it up to the poster of the first member as to whether each description should be accompanied by an illustration.
  3. Re: Creatures disappearing after death of creator - how to make? A very good point, that.
  4. Re: Good special effect for Ranged Touch Sense? Yes' date=' as shown in [i']Champions Powers[/i] (a contribution of mine, I'm proud to note, by way of USPD2).
  5. Re: How many character sheets is to many? Too many character sheets is when... ...the GM announces that, in the future, all characters must be able to fit in a 3" three-ring binder. ...the GM carries a portable hard drive with your character's name on it. ...the GM's reaction to seeing the collection includes the words "Steve Long" and "Tyrannon the Conqueror." ...the GM is nervous about how you're going to spend your next five Experience Points. ...one of the other players, who also GMs, asks for copies and offers $24.95 plus shipping and handling. ...the only way you can tell the difference between it and The Ultimate Skill by touch is by feeling for the binding. ...the local copy center offers you bulk discounts. Basically, if the GM's OK with it, then it's OK.
  6. Re: Creatures disappearing after death of creator - how to make? On reflection, I'm changing my mind and agreeing with the others. Those Summoned beings aren't much use to a dead person, unless said dead person can recover somehow. Thus, their disappearance becomes part of the Special Effect, and could probably even be considered a requirement of Summon (with an Advantage if the character needs the creatures to remain past his death for some reason).
  7. Re: Creatures disappearing after death of creator - how to make? There's no standard Limitation, but I'd call Load-Bearing Boss a -1/4 Limitation in the spirit of Non-Persistent.
  8. Re: OMG Spy rays are real It will be interesting to see what would happen should these things become openly available commercially. I can just imagine the gathering of adolescent boys hanging around the door to the girls' locker room....
  9. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Pee-Wee Almighty
  10. Re: Idea: The Champions Multiverse Project. Don't forget Scott Bennie's Gestalt Universe!
  11. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine More than one character named Bombshell has been posted in various art threads, but this is the first one that closely resembles the one from my Legacy Universe.
  12. Many years ago, when David Letterman's show was on in the daytime, his staff brought out an interesting gag: a Swiss Army Machine Gun. Similar in principle to a Swiss Army Knife, this supposed "newly-developed weapon" shot rapid fire knives, forks, and other utensils at the enemy. I've spent the many years since then trying to figure out how to write this up in Hero. Each projectile would be something slightly different in Hero terms -- a spoon would be a Blast, then an Armor Piercing RKA for a steak knife, then an RKA with Reduced Penetration for a fork, then a Penetrating Blast for the corkscrew, and so forth. Besides that version, done for humorous value, it could be a more serious weapon that shoots bullets, though each bullet is something different. For example, maybe the first bullet out is a normal bullet, then an armor-piercer, then an exploding shell, then another normal one, then a tracer, then an exploder, then a frangible, then a rubber bullet, and so forth. The effect, in game terms, is that the weapon fires Autofire, but each individual round is something different. How would you go about making this? Is it even possible to do in a way that's book-legal?
  13. Re: Political/Religious Space Colonies? They're not, and never have been. Their motivations are quite secular.
  14. Re: Political/Religious Space Colonies? At the risk of violating the call to return to the original topic: Could you please cite this law specifically, please?
  15. Re: Political/Religious Space Colonies? I think we've gotten pretty far afield of the original question. The only point I was making was that, just as "it's easy to commit acts of genocide when you can say God told you to" (a quote from someone on a different discussion board entirely), it's also easy to commit acts of genocide when you think there's no God to answer to, that you (as a personal dictator, as "The State," or whatever) are the ultimate authority. A lot of you are making the point that being "good" doesn't require God; being evil doesn't certainly require God. So a state based on atheism won't necessarily be free from corruption and cruelty just because its proponents say it is. "Logic" and "science" can say some pretty outrageous things -- it already has, in the past -- and these can lead to things that, by our standards, would be atrocious.
  16. Re: Vehicles with Vehicles? In this case, since that option was first brought up I've thought it made the most sense to me.
  17. Re: Vehicles with Vehicles? Is that one star cruiser the only repair and maintenance facility for the squadron that exists, anywhere? Does the squadron stop functioning altogether, immediately, if the star cruiser is destroyed? In short, if the star cruiser is destroyed while the squadron is not on board, what happens to the squadron? That's what makes the difference.
  18. Re: Vehicles with Vehicles? That is one case where I definitely would have the Vehicles bought separately. The fighter craft can be used without the heavy star cruiser, and vice versa. Vehicles within Vehicles should be reserved for cases where if you lose one, you cannot use the other. The prime example of this would be the elevators in an ocean liner. Sink the liner, and the elevators are gone too. The original example in this thread can be argued for: if the pilot's robot suit is disabled, the hover platform can't be used. If the hover platform can be used without the robot suit, then they definitely should be bought as separate Vehicles.
  19. Re: Cosmic Centurions I think John was talking about the Green Lanterns' date=' not the Green Centurions. The Cosmic Aspects Page gives information on what the various Cosmic Centurions would be like. Personally I think that the "special ability" each Centurion has should be an individual thing, relevant to the Cosmic Aspect. For example, I've been pondering a backstory for the Golden Centurion that involves an innate understanding of energy conversion.
  20. Re: Vehicles with Vehicles? Officially, the robots and hover platforms would be bought separately. I have certain criteria for my own settings wherein a vehicle can buy a vehicle, and this appears to meet one set: the secondary vehicle is useless without the primary one (that is, the hover platform can only be operated via a giant robot).
  21. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I can just imagine some old friend of his finding his disembodied skull, holding it up, and saying, "Alas, poor Zorick...."
