  1. Re: The Hero System is bland and over complicated Well... SFB was created by Stephen V. Cole an engineer and former US Army intelligence officer... (From Wikipedia) What would be more dry^H^H^Hdetailed than a Military Engineering manual?
  2. Re: "Crowning Moment of Cool?" Multiple Crowning moments of Cool: Miles Vorkosigan (in Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga books) One of my favorite is when he dons all his various medals (god knows how many he has, he keep them in a big jar...), including the highest ranking decoration of a *RIVAL* stellar power (don't ask! - Read "Cetaganda"), all this to be *SURE* to have the attention of the new Imperial Security chief. (who didn't take him seriously)
  3. Re: "Crowning Moment of Cool?" Like the three Elvis impersonators in the episode Epiphany?
  4. Re: STAR HERO Reading List Add some of Lois McMaster-Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan Saga... (well, she only won a *few* nebula/hugo awards for them)
  5. Re: Dodging Fireballs Chelonist!
  6. Re: General Atomics electromagnetic rail cannon Just seeing what has been done decades ago by a thinkerer... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Bull
  7. Re: New Electricity Damage Table Here's some info you could like... Small Refresh: Amps * Volts = Watts... (P=VI) Ohms * Amps = Volts (V=RI) (see http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-ohm.htm for all the derived equations) Voltage is the "Force" at which the electrons try to go through the medium, which is "resisting" that motion (Resistance) Amps are the quantities of electron able to do so Huge Voltage, Tiny Amperage = static electricity (a big Zap and it's over, nothing else happens) Electric arcs can be "bypassed" by a faraday cage (just look at http://www.drmegavolt.com/) Some thing are more sensible to Static electricity, others to Amperage. In our technology, we Mostly operate Voltage sources (meaning it's the Amps that varies, voltage being stable) ex: standard north american electric outlet = 120V, UP to 15 Amps If you want a catch-all rule for easy roleplaying you're more likely to have it based on the actual POWER (watts) transfered, meaning that a Low voltage High Amps current will do the same "damage" as a High Voltage Los Amperage, as long as the Wattage is the same Ex: 1 Volt * 100 Amps = 100 Watts = 100 Volts * 1 Amps A Nice site if you want to get "Real World" effects for humans: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_1/chpt_3/4.html From this site: BODILY EFFECT DIRECT CURRENT (DC) 60 Hz AC 10 kHz AC --------------------------------------------------------------- Slight sensation Men = 1.0 mA 0.4 mA 7 mA felt at hand(s) Women = 0.6 mA 0.3 mA 5 mA --------------------------------------------------------------- Threshold of Men = 5.2 mA 1.1 mA 12 mA perception Women = 3.5 mA 0.7 mA 8 mA --------------------------------------------------------------- Painful, but Men = 62 mA 9 mA 55 mA voluntary muscle Women = 41 mA 6 mA 37 mA control maintained --------------------------------------------------------------- Painful, unable Men = 76 mA 16 mA 75 mA to let go of wires Women = 51 mA 10.5 mA 50 mA --------------------------------------------------------------- Severe pain, Men = 90 mA 23 mA 94 mA difficulty Women = 60 mA 15 mA 63 mA breathing --------------------------------------------------------------- Possible heart Men = 500 mA 100 mA fibrillation Women = 500 mA 100 mA after 3 seconds --------------------------------------------------------------- Wire touched by finger: 40,000 Ω to 1,000,000 Ω dry, 4,000 Ω to 15,000 Ω wet. Wire held by hand: 15,000 Ω to 50,000 Ω dry, 3,000 Ω to 5,000 Ω wet. Metal pliers held by hand: 5,000 Ω to 10,000 Ω dry, 1,000 Ω to 3,000 Ω wet. Contact with palm of hand: 3,000 Ω to 8,000 Ω dry, 1,000 Ω to 2,000 Ω wet. 1.5 inch metal pipe grasped by one hand: 1,000 Ω to 3,000 Ω dry, 500 Ω to 1,500 Ω wet. 1.5 inch metal pipe grasped by two hands: 500 Ω to 1,500 kΩ dry, 250 Ω to 750 Ω wet. 8. Re: Announcing Kazei 5, Second Edition I'd buy that if it weren't spelled another way the page after that Could've been much worse tho
  9. Re: Announcing Kazei 5, Second Edition Just got the PDF... Looks quite nice.... but were you're aware that your North American map has a glaring typo in the spelling of Nunavut?

    Gnomes?

Re: Gnomes? Must... resist... urge... to tell.. monster jokes...
  11. Re: Library Cataloging System for a Multidimensional Library Ooook* * But how do you catalog an infinite number of documents?
  12. Re: Math Ever tried soing Mechas in Mekton Zeta Plus? I spent at least a week doing a spreadsheet to enable our group to redo the caclulation for changing armor weight, size, power-to-weight ratios, etc... without having to start from scratch every single time IIRC, there was some options that changed the multipliers you used in mid-calculation, others that added to the result, etc. Every changes needed a regression to verify every part of the cost calculation was impacted
  13. Re: Strangest Perk you've seen? the game "Toon" has Schtick as name of stats... and I guess it cannot be anything else than comedic (and is multi-genre with the Tooniversal Guide)
  14. Re: How can you make the stone age cool? Whattabout... Cavemen Ugh Lympics
  15. Re: Easiest way to... emulate 5th negative skill levels in 6th Thanks for your posts... I've seen that CE actually do not include CV while fiddling with it for a friend's character... I guess I'll use Drain then ... Oh, and if you want to use CE to Create Light in your games, I do not think that Steve will transmit your coordinates to NORAD for immediate termination
  16. Re: Easiest way to... emulate 5th negative skill levels in 6th If so, would I be correct to assume that the equivalent of "-1 overall" is quite costly?
  17. Re: New to Hero Yes, the book is HUGE, but it has lot of redundant texte (which is *GOOD* as you do not need to flip through 29 section to get the info you want, it's always (or nearly) all at the same place). It has LOTS of examples for each powers, is explaining powers, skills, etc more clearly that most other RPGs out there and has tried to limit the number of "exceptions" to the minimum. Once you understand the Philosophy of the system, the book is for Reference, not a day-to-day chore you have to endure. Like some said, the basics are in Combat & Adventuring, the rest is used much less often, for (well, you might guess it) reference
  18. I've nearly finished Book 1 and while converting some Spells from the Grimoire for a campaign I'm preparing I've run across the fact that 6th has eleminated the Negative Skill Levels... Which I was about to use for a Curse... Adding to that, my search-fu is borked since the forum update (I cannot seem to be able to search only ONE forum, only ALL of them, getting a bit too much results to comb through) So... should I simply use the Skill Level and add a minus in front of it or is there any other way to build this thing that wouldn't involve bailing wires and duct-tape?
  19. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? I know that GURPS' doing a Vorkosigan book for their line... should be quite easy to adapt to HERO
  20. Re: Penetrating + Reduced Penetration = Broken? Penetrating + Reduced Penetration slapped on the same power is kinda contradictory, no? I mean logic-wise, they *seem* to be mutually exclusive (not taking the rules/build into account, only the *wording*) I'd ask the crator of that particular build to explain to me *very clearly* why those two *must* be used together, because my mind cannot wrap itself around that particular combo...
  21. Re: Firearms in fantasy? Just having to keep the powder/cartridges dry during weeks of wilderness adventuring/dungeoneering should keep them in check for a while. Also having to keep your gun clean of powder residue more or less often (did they buy that powder keg from CmoT Dibbler? if so, then you have a cummulative -1 penalty because of residue buildup!). If their guns aren't ready before a fight, then it's a non-issue anyway (You're sure you want to load your gun??? those Orcs are comming pretty fast with their swords waiving about...). Great job of being stealthy in a forest too! (Geez, Bob, thanks for advertizing to everyone chasing us around that we're here! You've even shown them where with all this smoke!) Just do not let them have modern bullets/cartridges/smokeless stuff
  22. Re: Modern/Futuristic Pulp movie Best thing: "Amateur Made" they cut their teeth on Star Wreck, but it's not a Big Studio movie... they're getting help from lots of volunteers and donations... Rendering is done in their basement or using "donated" cpu time
  23. Re: Star-Trek-Gate-Wars 5 There is already Star Wreck (if you do not mind watching a sub fan movie) that has *VERY* nice FX putting StarTrek's "Federation" versus B5's "Earth Alliance" with an orgy of space battles featuring Defiant Class Dreadnaughts shooting up some Omega Class Destroyer and the Excalibur vaporizing some other starship.... Also nice to see Starfuries swarming the ST ships
  24. Re: When sfx lie My 2 pts... To model Invulnerability, you have to define it first IMHO, Invulnerability is the RESULT of this, not the CAUSE There might be some weird build that can explain using "evasive powers" to simulate invulnerability (SDF-1 Point Barrier resisting absurd amount of damage, but first have to be put at the right place, or any "shield" that are used to absorb the damage instead of yourself) or any other SFX/Power association. Those must be scrutinized individually. Some would work, others not. For "simple" Invulnerability, are you simply impossible to hit? Can you take a direct hit from Big Bertha and not even have your hairdo messed up? Does your reputation as Invulnerable demoralizes completely your opponent, making them not even bothering to aim for you?. Only once you have the *Reason* for your invulnerability, can you then model it with a bit of realism that would stand up and not create those long threads Invulnerably High DCV character are are better not stepping into a tarpit Invulnerably High PD/ED character have problem getting their flu shots Invulnerably Multi-Life-Supported character better not need any drugs for mental problems True invulnerability is not that fun to play anyway.
