  1. Joe is a galactic criminal who also happens to be real powerful. However, since his rehabilitation hasn't been "taking" he has been fitted with implants that prevent him from taking any action that has been pre-programmed as evil by the data stored in them. He can't beat information out of a mook. He can't murder. He can't steal. Now, you can trick him with illusions... or he can do something on accident, but you can't Mind Control him into it or anything like that. It's not a matter of his opinion of morality, but if you make a baby look like a seriel killer with an illusion, he can blast it. But you can't just make him blast a baby if he recognizes it as a baby. Basically, he can't do anything of the sort "on purpose" (just like you can't mind control someone without legs to kick someone). To take it further, he may have another implant (or additional program) that requires him to do good or right wrongs. It's not a choice, he is forced to do so no matter what. Whatcha think?
  2. Viper's sniper teams love heroes with HFO. So do angry teammates with less than moral views of murder. but I didn't say that
  3. Everyone knows you can't use the example characters as examples... unless you are using them as examples of how not to do it.
  4. Well, essentially he's a villain/NPC. So you don't even have to work out the mechanics of the changes. That stuff is for players. Just write down what happens if you need notes and go with it.
  5. What's weird about this site is that some of the B&W sketches appear to be done after the color images (I mean, because some are just photo-manips. What? You don't recognize Fabio in at least one of them?) I can't believe it's not butter...
  6. We've always allowed it yet very few people do it (and let me tell you, we have a lot of point whores). The problem with a vehicle style armor is the simple fact that it gets trashed much, much easier... and then the poor guy is screwed. Add to that... piloting the thing - a bad roll can really screw you up, too. It only takes one or two times of your armor getting trashed like that for the villains to know it's a little more vulnerable than your typical powersuit guy (keep in mind, we enforce the same def/DC/etc limits on vehicles that we do for everyone else). Also, vehicles can't be summoned up the same way a normal powersuit can for most characters. On the other hand, the focus or HFO is as natural as your own skin. One of the best powered armor characters I've seen combined them. The basic suit was a focus but the jetpack was a vehicle (the jetback had some armament and sensors, itself). Even more cool, the jetpack could be sent off on its own to fly recon and stuff.
  7. We're already used to using the hit loc chart, but still...you can "barely hit" and still end up with a big clobber to the head. Maybe it's not such a good idea, after all
  8. I'd go the VPP route, myself. Some people don't like them, though. Why does he call himself Lunatic if he doesn't realize he's nuts, anyway?
  9. Well, with this idea I would still be enforcing my own ideas of CV to DC balance (it's essentially an eyball technique, but the more CV the less DC you can have). So I'm looking at a sort of ten-ten ruling. Add 1 to one side and you have to subtract 1 from the other. Varying a little based on concept and other factors (someone who's got paper thin defenses might get some extra in there... kind of a rule of X but not in stone). Actually, looking at my numbers, above, I was originally thinking of a wider 50% spread (average roll) so the bigger numbers would be harder to get. You do have a point, however, a lower DC, higher CV type character could potentially wreak more havoc. Writing out some numbers with the ten-ten and the listed above, it's superior to have +1CV and -1DC assuming an average to-hit roll. I'm not sure I thinking maybe the 100% mark might be "hit by 10+" (arbitrarily taking the extraordinary skill penalty default) for the perfect hit. Good observation with the problem with entangles, etc (which I can add to my list autofires and AE's). While I don't mind those hits being more threatening (let's face it, it's not that hard to deliver a coup de grace on an immobile opponent) it might be more dangerous than fun (fun, of course, being most important). Basically, I wanted to toy with some set damage ideas but not just do the "all rolls are average" thing. Which is great for making yourself bulletproof or something with certainty but just didn't seem as fun. I guess I could do a set damage scale based off the hit location chart... I kind of liked the idea of the better you hit, the better you put the hurt on, though. Any other ideas, feedback, etc, appreciated as always.
  10. As some of you know, I've been endlessly building up a campaign setting and I was thinking, if I ever get to running it, I might want to toy with some concepts. While my group has no trouble at all counting dice and doing it quickly, I was thinking about set damge. You know, something like just hit does 25% hit by 1-3 50% hit by 4-6 75% hit by 7+ 100% of maximum possible damage. However, the kink in this idea is Autofires. Since how many hits is determined by how well you hit by, it also means the more shots you hit with the more damage each shot would do. I guess AE's would be a problem, too, since it's so easy to hit a hex (and you autohit your own hex... very nice for those personal immunity types). Any suggestions? Or anyone done something similar that works? Just think it's a stupid idea? Heck, I'll take any feedback.
  11. lol I remember that pysch... "Quasi-Death Wish"
  12. We pretty much use them all and don't find them to slow us down any. Now against thugs and stuff, we don't bother... because, really, who cares? They are all dropping in one or two hits, anyway.
  13. Nonsense. Otherwise I could define the defense of my "tear gas attack" as "must be wearing a Mets baseball cap." All those people scrambling for gas masks would be up the creek. Just like "holding my breath" can protect me from a head encasement NND even if they guy only lists NND vs Self-Contained LS "Plastic baggie over head."
  14. I think I'd only add Redemption, but you might be able to call that "avenging a personal tragedy" which was just self-made (Plastic Man, Wonder Man)
  15. He's still Halfjack? How hard is it to find half a cyborg body, anyway? He's Fulljack in the campaign thingy I been working on.
  16. I received a surprising amount of e-mail when our low powered game site went inactive. I didn't think anyone looked at it more than once, and only when I pimped it. http://www.thefumbler.com/champions/ Some of the news stories have phot manips, which people liked (the first filming of Gossamer and Bolt on a security camera still are pretty cool, imo). http://www.thefumbler.com/champions/news/12801.html In terms of this game... the terrorists won. We were set in the "real world" and everyone was pretty much getting all "gung ho, kick some terrorist butt" and "we don't want to turn into some sort of militant, anti-terrorist game" at the same time. So we halted it. If nothing else, it was a fun distraction from our way too long normal supers game. I've had the bug, though, so I'm making an online Enemies book. And I might post the campaign I've been working on (with much great input from other board posters) even though I might never run it (I'm not really the GM type). I might archive the link above, too, on my new web space.
  17. I would use duplication, too. Main Guy Lots of powers bought "not when duplicated" - he can be any of the component guys when duplicated, but would seem more like the base personality/leader of the main guy. Duplicates All the little other guys. However, I would never subject a group to this. It is doomed to failure as 4 out of 5 guys (or whatever your group his) now just get to sit there and be the Professor yelling at Firestorm about what he should be doing and more likely following it up with "you idiot!"
  18. Aliens don't invade Earth, usually, because earth doesn't have anything worth taking to justify the expense (even if their guns and ships grow on trees... they still have to pick them to come and get us). Why don't they contact us? Having extensive knowledge with Earth as a native, I sometimes desire having no contact with it, myself. Again, there's nothing here worth their time (assuming they are an advanced species). We don't set up shop in primitive tribes, either, unless we need something in the area... and then that's just for PR. Aliens that wouldn't consider us primite or would consider us advanced I disagree that aliens should balance out to zero. Dogs aren't zero. Birds aren't zero. Some aliens will be zero. Some aliens will be less. Some will be more. Some alien worlds might affect humans in weird ways (just like Superman is affected here). Aliens that are zero and just look funny or something might as well be French or from the Outback or something. How boring! Most people aren't even zero, anyway... they are negative (a real, average human does not have 10 across the board on the base stats, it's more like 8). Perhaps on an alein world they are "considered" to be zero and humans really total a couple hundred points or something. You have to remember that the rules are written with humans as the standard and, thus, the starting points.
  19. Is your team Porno Force or something?
  20. The originals were Merryman, Dumb Bunny, White Feather and the Blimp (I think). I still remember the entry from Who's Who (the original one)... good lord, was that the early 80's?

    For FREEDOM!

I liked this game a lot, too. From the stock guys, I like Bullet... but MM did more than his fair share of work. I used my own creations whenever possible. With a little monkeying around, I had a devastating giant robot (you know the one), a cyborg T-Rex, a cyborg giant ant, and a couple guys that used the Timemaster dude model. I also had a one-shot wonder speedster and flying blaster... both of them tended to one-hit most of the usual guys in the game (so we excluded them in the replay). In multiplayer it was always a blast to bring in the robot, t-rex, and the giant boss guy... few people, at the time, knew you could swipe those files and use them for custom characters.
  22. I'm not familiar enough with the Inferior Five to name who's missing. I'm not familiar enough with them to even be sure that's the team name, really. heh.
  23. Most of our stuff is "homebrew." I'm currently putting together a web resource of the ones I've created so that it can be freely shared but it won't touch nearly on the total number of villains & teams we've created over the years (uh...decades. damn, I feel so old...). One of my favorites, and which will be included, is the Super Syndicate... A terrible collection of losers and one trick ponies, really. They aren't weak... but alone, they wouldn't stand a chance against most heroes. Together... well, it just takes longer to catch them all and the more there, the more chance they have of escaping. They were the bad guys in a FORTY CHARACTER BRAWL! That was a blast. These guys do things like... send twelve supervillains to rob a jewelry store (along with more villains on the surrounding rooftops to look out for heroes). They once made their getaway in a minivan belonging to Captain Lazer's aunt (a sci fi nerd with a 50's style spacesuit and raygun). Their numbers have been slimmed down considerably through prison and combat and have become more competent over the years. Now they are actually dangerous.
  24. I pretty much ignore any and all absolutes that have been laid out in the 5th edition universe. To me, such things are very much against the spirit of a superhero game. It's made much easier when you ignore the 5th edition universe, though, which is pretty much suck on a stick as far as I'm concerned.
  25. Re: Re: Would U allow this? Multiple opinions welcome A transform options seems uneccessarily complicated for something that can be simulated much easier. Since shadows are essentially "desolid" and have no BDY score, I think it would look extra wonky, myself. A summon is not a bad idea, though. The problem with a summon is that it has set stats. So a brick might not ever be threatened by it. Using the NND blast, the shadow is "as strong" as its caster... so Gronds shadow is strong enough to wrassle with Grond. Etc. Anyway... Another defense to the blast, if more is desired, is that it's limited, too, by things like flight. Couldn't use it on someone too far from their shadow (or if their shadow is sufficiently dispersed by distance). Another option could be an indirect on STR or a martial choke, which works almost the same as a continuous blast, but provides the option for break-outs (again, you run into that brick problem). Extra str for the shadow choke might not be so bad.. it would allow better gripping and still provide a chance to escape it.
