1. Re: Scooby Doo If it hadn't been for Old Man Cruthers down at the mill, those meddling kids wouldn't have anything to do. But me, I wanted VELMA...I thought she was HOT!!! Daphne was just the "brainless, pretty girl". Velma had brains...and looks!
2. Re: "TaleSpin" as a pulp setting Khan is a wonderfully concepted "foil" for any hero. I'd love to see Tale Spin get a mention in Pulp Hero.
3. Re: Creating a mafia How true...a crimelord would never get his/her hands "dirty". That is just not the way. The true crimelord should be well hidden from evidence, and never be revieled until "the climax of the saga".
4. Re: Reference For DC DareDevil is a pretty good choice. For a somewhat "futuristic look", the anime series Bubblegum Crisis holds some merit. There are also interesting excursions, which approach the subject with a somewhat alternate approach than the more conventional...like Forever Knight, The Crow and Big Trouble in Little China. First and foremost...have fun, that's the final goal!
5. Re: "TaleSpin" as a pulp setting I loved Disney's Tale Spin. There were many times that my children and I were glued to the TV watching the show (but secretly, I was waiting for Darkwing Duck, the hero of Saint Cannard). The isle of Cape Suzzette is a great setting for "pulp-style" adventures. Hell, why not just do the work and run Tale Spin, but with your own versions of "animal-styled" adventurers. Nothing says that your characters have to be "human"...to be pulp.
6. Re: Character for review: Apex Althought thcharacter looks very well conceived, I really can't stand the format of PBeM...It doesn't allow the true interaction that one should be able to expect from a RPG. But that's just one person's opinion!
7. Re: Star Wars Hero Question How true AmadanNaBriona, I suppose that most forms of Jedi/Sith "Martial Arts" does have a heavy emphasis on the "disarm (excuse the pun)/disable" effect. It seems to be somewhat commonplace.
8. Re: Star Wars Hero Question Although I would tend to agree with you on this point Captain Pants, there is a possibility to "abuse" the possibilities of the VPP to do just what you said. It is your responsibility to not allow such things!!! The Force doesn't allow you to change People into Jawas, and you shouldn't allow it either. You will need to define the "boundries" of the Force to your players...and to be true to the sub-genre. The Elemental Control is probably a better framework to use, rather than the Multipower. I think it'll serve the needs better for defining the Force.
9. Re: Pulp TV Shows I am not sure if this would really qualify as "pulpy", but how about... The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The Fugitive Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea Time Tunnel Dark Shadows The Lone Ranger Gunsmoke Dragnet Wild, Wild West Just some random thoughts...
10. Re: I want to play Hero, I feel your pain VR Dragon! I too have gone through those "hard times", and I know what it's like. I was a long time GM, and now...I haven't had an opportunity to play for a (very) long time. I can tell you, it will get better. All you have to do is...KEEP THE FAITH!!!
11. Re: Teamwork Basically, according to "game mechanics", Teamwork only serves ONE purpose, and that is to Coordinate attacks. It does nothing else!!! This does not mean that a Gamemaster cannot expand on the skill, and what it is used for. That is purely at the disgression of the Gamemaster. But, the skill as it is written in Hero System 5th Edition Revised, the skill is not worth the points which you are paying for it. The skill is just too specific! It's that plain and simple!!!

13. Re: Tales Of The Gold Monkey Yes...It was a good show. A little bit "toungue-in-cheek", but good all the same!

The 1950's

Re: The 1950's About the only suppliment that I am aware of is GURPS Atomic Horror, so I can't be of much help other than confirming what everyone else has said.
15. Re: Favorite Superhero Lines Quite obviously... Thing: It's Clobberin' Time!!! Then there's... Johnny Storm: Reed will explain it to everyone, and then he'll explain it again in one-syllable words so that the Thing can understand it. Spiderman: With great power comes great responsibility!
16. Re: More Side Effect questions You could handle this very easily...as follows. 30pts - Energy Blast 12d6 (60 Active Points) Limited Power: Power loses one-half effectiveness if Skill Roll fails (-1) I hope that this helps you...sometimes simple is best!!!
17. Re: Build this: Repulsion Field True Doc Democracy...but I went more for the true "repulsor field"...one that will eventually run out of power...and then leave the villian vulnerable.
18. Re: Build this: Repulsion Field Here my attempt. It's a little costly...but hell, what's a Villian supposed to do with points, if not spend them on nasty devices? Cost Power END 93 Force Field (30 PD/30 ED/20 Mental Defense/20 Power Defense/10 Flash Defense: Hearing Group/10 Flash Defense: Mental Group/10 Flash Defense: Radio Group/10 Flash Defense: Sight Group) (140 Active Points); OIF (Repulsor Device; -1/2) 14 28 Endurance Reserve (420 END, 7 REC) Reserve: (49 Active Points); OIF (Repulsor Device; -1/2), Linked (Force Field; -1/2) 0 63 Missile Deflection (Any Ranged Attack), +15 with Missile Deflection, Missile Reflection, Uncontrolled (+1/2) (127 Active Points); Linked (Force Field; -1/2), OIF (Repulsor Device; -1/2) 0 73 Energy Blast 20d6, Trigger (Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger resets automatically, immediately after it activates, Character does not control activation of personal Trigger; When Forcefield is Contacted; +1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (200 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), OIF (Repulsor Device; -1/2), Can only emit as many d6 Damage as it is struck by (-1/2), Linked (Force Field; -1/4) 0 Powers Cost: 257 I know it's a little "beefy"...but I think it may suffice.

Along with his research assistant, Dr. Maggie Morris they had begun working on a project that used a theory of hypersonic soundwaves, which are beyond the normal "ultrasonic waves", to output in a concentrated field, which could be used in applications as large as underwater welding and fabrications, but also as small as some forms of non-invasive surgery. This project had become a "labor of love" for Dr. Saunders, and Dr. Maggie Morris had bought into the dream. With no real funding, Steve had funded most of the work himself, with his own savings...taking the risk that he would be able to develop the device and market his invention. As the finishing touches had been put on the hand held prototype, Steve and Dr. Morris locked down their lab, and went to bed for the evening, in anticipation of the first test runs of his life's work. In the middle of the night, Steve had heard noise in his basement lab, and went down to take a look. When he opened the rear door to his lab, he saw a sinister looking, dark shadow of a figure clutching his hypersonic device. "Nice weapon you have here, Dr. Saunders," stated the dark figure. "It's better that you leave that tool where you found it...it hasn't been tested yet!" yelled Steve. "Then we shall test it...NOW!!!" As the dark figure screeched, he squeezed the trigger, the hypersonic beam struck Steve square in the chest...and the pain he felt was excruciating. Then, totally incapacitated, Steve fell to the floor...and as the dark figure hovered over him, as he laid there helplessly, the dark figure grabbed all of Dr. Saunders notes, along with his hypersonic device, calmly stating, "THIS IS YOUR LEGACY THAT I HOLD IN MY HANDS!!! I hope that you are pleased with the results! Farewell." And with that, the dark figure set fire to the lab. Steve found the strength to get out of the burning building...but he lost everything! Dr. Saunders had found that after he had recovered, his body had somehow changed. He now was able to move faster than most people...intensely faster than most people. This was what he needed to get back his lifes work, he thought to himself. So, the newest hero, TURBO was born! He is bound and determined to get his life's work back...and any that try to stop him had better...BEWARE!!! Personality/Motivation Steve is now determined to find out who the "dark figure" was, and get his life's work back! He want's to punish the "dark figure"...and make him regret it! In the process of his search, Steve looks to test his new abilities. He aids those who cannot help themselves. He won't let others become a victim...the way he did. Quote "Get off the tracks...the freight train is a comin' through!" Powers/Tactics TURBO uses his "hyperspeed" to keep moving, and uses a "hit & run" form of tactics to overpower his opponent. His abilities are fairly straight-forward...he does things fast! As he develops, he will begin to find new uses for his Hypersonic Speed. Campaign Use TURBO is the "main character" in the Hudson City Blues Campaign. Appearance Steve is not overly handsome...just sort of "average-looking". He has a rigid build for his height.
21. Re: Has anyone ever done this? No, I can't say honestly that I've ever done that before...but the concept does hold a certain amount of merit.
22. Re: Pirate-Theme Villains Needed Here's some for you... Call them...The Deep Six: Jolly Roger- Martial Artist & Swordsman; Team Leader Skull- Flying Energy Projector; twin to Crossbones Crossbones- Flying Energy Projector; twin to Skull Pieces of Eight- Density-based Brick; has the ability to transform his skin to metal, which appears like gold. Polly- Beautiful Mentalist The Bosun- Burly Weaponsmaster; uses a special lash as his weapon of choice. Heck, maybe that will be the first villian team that I'm going to create.
