  1. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Ace pix, these. The pink Hawkman clone is a hoot.
  2. I'm posting this here because I'm working on a Champions character right now. I know his stats and powers, etc, are (roughly) but I'm having a right old time figuring out his background except in the vaguest terms, mainly because I have very little experience of any city except Oxford, and I really can't see it as a City of Heroes, as it were. So what I want to know is, how do you lot come up with the backgrounds for your characters? It is background first, or do you figure it out afterwards? Any advice, information, etc, you can give me would ge greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    The Butler

Re: The Butler Concerning Jeeves, it's just about canon that he was manipulating Bertie for his own amusement. A possible Psych Lim for a valet or butler could be: Considers it an honour to serve ((Very) common, strong - 15/20 points).
  4. Re: in the spirit of christmas! Just make sure he doesn't get "bean juice" on it.
  5. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Just finished "Conan and the Emerald Lotus" by John C Hocking. I thought it was a good pastiche which felt a lot like Howard's original stories.
  6. Re: Sapphire up I like this version better than the one from the books.
  7. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Those are two ace pix, Storn. Winter Wolf is terrific, and I really like the concept of a super-powered Joan of Arc.
  8. Re: in the spirit of christmas! That's a good pic, Dr Destiny.
  9. Re: Your character's theme music! I'm working on a speedster character called RedLine. His theme tune would, of course be Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance", 'cos it's just an insanely fast piece of music.
  10. Re: Illegal Aliens...? Especially when you have no nose, mouth or ears
  11. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread Poison, that's absolutely awesome - and the close up leaves me speechless. I rep you, but "Must spread rep, yadda, yadda, yadda. . ."
  12. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread Great pic, Poison
  13. Re: Meet The Alternates I gotta agree. This looks like a much better team than one given to us in the sourcebook.
  14. Re: The Return Of... Steve's Chat! I think 0300 CET is 0100 GMT for us Brits. I've always wanted to be part of these chats, but can never find them. I assume the chat room is the HERO Games Chat facility at the tp of the page?
  15. Re: Bonestell Panorama That's a wonderful image, it really is. In response to the business of tinting - I heard that the Martian sky in the original Viking photos was tinited blue, apparently because it was thought that no-one would believe in/be interested in a planet with a pale-orangey sky.
  16. Re: Yet another Fantasy Hero Weapons Thread... The broadsword is not the most common type of sword. The term "broadsword" has two meanings: a double-edged military sword, with complex hilt, term originating in the 17th Century, or an 18th Century short naval cutlass. The type of sword everyone thinks about, eg: the Viking- or Crusader-pattern swords, is simply called a "sword". Later it became known as an arming sword, worn on the belt, with the longsword, a hand-and-a-half weapon, worn on the pommel of the horse's saddle. The best example of a real broadsword is the Scottish basket-hilted broadsword worn on ceremonial occasions.
  17. Re: Which is your least favorite archetype to play? I actually wrote up a Teen Champs character who has an energy lasso and the "energy cage" from the Champions source book. I wote it up as an entangle and stuck the "cannot be escaped with teleportation" adder on it. I figured it makes her different from all the other blasters out there, even if the rest of her multipower is pretty much standard issue. My least favourite archetype is probably "weapons master", since all it seems to be is another fella with a bow and trick arrows. And I shudder at the concept of an assault rifle in .50 BMG.
  18. Re: Help me get into Bricks. Ah. Thank you, Hyper-Man
  19. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Good to see something a little different, Storn. I just want to bring up something that I'm sure you already know - that the term "martial arts" also includes styles like boxing, wrestling, fencing, etc. A fight scene set in the "west" shouldn't look like something from a Hong Kong movie, no matter how much the writer enjoys them. I'm really enjoying "Catspaw", so please keep up the (extremely) good work.
  20. Re: Help me get into Bricks. What's a Nerf?
  21. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Daimajin looks interesting. Why is his skin grey, though?
  22. Re: Bored of the (Lantern) Rings Although this thread was meant to come up with an alternative to rings, I would observe that the tradition of magical rings stretches back a very long way, even to early Roman times and so that's probably why the creators of GL chose it. And then there's the symbolic nature of a lantern illuminating the darkness. However, to ad my own suggestion. Perhaps a bracelet - or an amulet, akin to the ones worn by the Vikings?
  23. Re: in the spirit of christmas! Looks very good indeed
  24. Re: s, A Starting group of villains. These are good characters
  25. Re: Fantasy Art Thread These are all good pix, but I hope yon elven sorceress is wearing something underneath that dress she's got on otherwise come the next strong breeze she's going to be seriously embarrassed.
