    Hmmm....no.

Star Trek is defined by its ability to present concepts even when they are not in lock step with current beliefs.

Star Trek has been pure anti-PC from before the phrase was coined.

I think the problem with such analogies is two fold: they are overly simplistic and "othering", and they are clearly politically biased as people don't dare think about those implications when put against their candidate. Senator Obama (08) thought marriage should have been between 1 man and 1 woman. Does voting for him mean you are homophobic? No. Secretary Clinton has supported our surveillance state - does voting for her mean that Democratic voters support big-brother? No. She has supported bombing tactics that just deem all 14 boys in Yemen killed terrorists and has killed countless innocent families. Does voting for Sec. Clinton mean you support these bombing runs that murder children? No. Politics is a much more complicated issue than the above. These candidates also supported many other issues that were given more appeal to individual voters. And slinging around these hasty generalizations that divide people doesn't serve anyone but your own catharsis.

To be a bit trite: the plural of anecdote is not data. This election didn't feature any particular major shift in substantive voting demographics for the Republican party***. Whites, white women, blacks, various age groups, local population, etc. The single largest shift (in raw numbers) was a one point shift between men and women (men increased by 1 percent form last time and women decreased by 1). But even that data point is incapable of expressing what happened because the women who did vote voted Republican at a lower rate. And while men increased in support for the Republican party by 1 percent, that is probably more a reflection of the slight uptick of Black and Latino support for the Republican party.

All in all, President Elect Trump gained an extremely comparable vote share as Gov. Romney in terms of demographics and raw numbers. If your friends voted for Gov. Romney, they likely voted for P.E. Trump but don't want to tell you for, well, obvious reasons.

    Soar.

***Note, this is limited to the Republican party. The Democratic Party saw some major shifts - hence why they lost. But those shifts were not to the Republican party.

You forget that the Democrats gerrymandered the whole state in order to give themselves advantage in any election. It's one of the reasons that I hate gerrymandering far more than filibustering. But what do I know. I'm just an idiot conservative that lives in a blue state so I have a chance to see the ocean or enjoy the rich national & state park resources from time to time. I could move to a red state, but none of them border the ocean. Not to mention the whole idea of finding work and having an established plan that financially covers something as expensive as moving.

Let me stop you here. You are now moving the goal posts. You said self proclaimed white nationalists. Actually, let me exactly quote you: "Trump utilized flat out white nationalists. Not as some side thing. These aren't people anyone needs to call racists, they call themselves it. Every day, Publicly."

I will note that saying "I am alt-right" may strike you as "I am a white nationalist" but this is where we are running into problems. Far too many people on the left seem to think even saying "I am conservative" is tantamount to saying "I am racist". You have gone from claiming that his staff publicly call themselves "white nationalists" to saying they used some code-word that you perceive to mean the same thing.

It is at this point that I should end this as I think we have reach a divide. It would seem you have vastly overstated your case and fallen into the exact broad-brush ad-homs that I was criticizing upthread.

    Soar.

Edit- There was more to this post but I think it was more distracting than necessary. I have deleted it.

My issue at the moment is with calling 49 percent of the country racists.   That is the key problem I have had with a lot of liberals (not all, I want to be careful how I put it, not to be like what has been done to me)

THis might be difficult for some to take, but I do think some of the "hidden vote" that the polls missed, it has occurred to me where it came from.

In the last decade,  a lot on the liberal side  have made a pretty virulent and aggressive effort to dehumanize the conservative in front of the masses, and it has been quite successful.  Agreeing with Obama, 90 percent of the time has become a requirement to avoid being called racist.  Vote for Hillary or you hate women.   Homophobe.  Warmonger.  Being called racist, is probably the worst insult you can throw in this hyper-PC environment.  A very serious charge that should not be thrown around like candy at Halloween.  Conservatives aren't above such rhetoric, in different forms.  But, quite, honestly, the left has been much more intense and relenting of late.  I think some conservatives were essentially bullied into silence.  You don't say you will vote for a guy, you expect the questionnaire will attack you for supporting.  I think they seethed and yesterday, unleashed.  You cannot say "conservatives are bigots"  and expect me, a conservative, not to take it personally.  I wasn't blinded to vote for Trump.  But, others might have seen this moment as their time of revenge.

Not to say, never to use such language.  But, I would hope, maybe, it is used more carefully in the future.  And not as the political weapon it has become.

Personally, I am quite tired of being equated with being a racist by virtue of being a white Conservative. I also realize that this election is very painful for our friends, yes friends, on the Left side of the aisle. All of the polls strongly indicated that Hillary Clinton would win and there was a palpable expectation of such. I even felt that was going to be the case. It was quite shocking when the exact opposite of my previous prediction* came true. If it were shocking to me, I can only imagine how utterly devastating it was for those that just "knew" that their chosen candidate was going to be president. Expressing that pain and concern is only natural. I think a little compassion and commiseration is not beyond my ability. Besides, I hate Trump almost as much as Clinton. In a bar graph, you would really have to zoom in very close to see the difference. I didn't vote for him and, being in California, it wouldn't matter if I did. California is a foregone conclusion for the Democrat side.

The only "win" I see (for me) is that Hillary Clinton will not get to appoint pro-Gun Control justice(s) to the Supreme Court. That was my biggest concern. Now I have a lot more concerns aside from that but I am willing to give it a chance to see how Trump is going to run the country. Who knows, he might surprise me.

    * I predicted that Hillary Clinton would take the Electoral, while Trump would take the Popular.

It was an historic night.  We just elected the oldest President in American history.  And we'll have the second foreign born First Lady in 190 years.  And the first who never held political office or military experience.

And it does give credence to the Lex Luthor Presidency.
