  1. FOXBIRD, child of Foxbat and Hummingbird, armed with the Legendary Ping-Pong Ball Gun and gifted with the ability to shrink. Now if only the gun shrank too *desperately tries to reach trigger while holding gun barrel up*
  2. Multiform is the best way to do this, that I'm aware of. Buy the Multiform with the limitations 'takes a turn to change forms' (to represent putting on the OIFs) and something that means 'only where the armors are'. Possibly give each a small VPP Gadget Pool for attachments and the like, and you're good to go.
  3. I'm kind of derailing my own thread, but since it pertains once again to my still-in-development SH game, I figure this'll cut down on the spam a bit. Anyways, I'm working on the Psionics now. The way I'm thinking of it, all races (except the Androids) can use Psionics; however, three races are 'specialists'. They're far better at their Psionics than the other races, but each is limited to a particular 'discipline'. One uses Telepathy, one Telekinesis, and another Extra-Sensory; however, they cannot develop abilities outside of their specialty. Now, I'm trying to figure out a way to make the specialization in 'game mechanics' besides just encouraging them to spend points appropriately. Since I'm thinking about requiring RSR: Power (Psionics) for all powers, I was debating letting them buy up the Power roll for less. Instead of 2pts/+1, maybe 3pts/+2 or even 1pt/+1, as if buying the Power Skill levels with a limitation. Any opinions?

  5. As I understand the circumstances, it's something like: Grond is the G, and T is his target PC. G--------(3 hexes)------T And Grond is winging the grabbed PC in a (relatively) straight line towards the target, rather than 'spiking' him straight down. I would continue to trace the PC (Projectile Character)'s path onward to the distance of Grond's standing throw. If he hit something vertical, he'd take appropriate damage based on its Def/Body; otherwise, he'd take 8d6 from skidding on the pavement.
  6. I was thinking the 'lets them interact safely with others' mold of containment suit. I'm thinking of making them radioactive (from a world high in nuclear material, of course), so they'd need lead-lined (or some other dense material) suits when they interacted with other races to avoid giving them radiation sickness (not to mention doing things like melting through bulkheads). Their own ships would be radiation-proof in construction, of course, but I was more thinking about the rest of the sector's safety.
  7. Summon doesn't really 'get their attention', at least not directly. Summon is the power that goes, to quote MK's Scorpion, "GET OVER HERE." Rather than getting their attention, it physically brings the victim/target of the Summon to the user. I, personally, would be quite ... wary of letting someone Summon their teammates. To actually just 'get their attention', either a telepathic power or, if you want the Thundercat Signal, a gigantic Images. To actually bring 'em to you, I'd probably insist on a Teleport Useable As Attack (etc).

  9. While doing my usual gaming stuff, I'm spending a couple of hours a day setting up a home-brewed Star Hero sector. I've come across something problematic, though. For the Energy Alien archetype, the Damage Shield is Always On and Inherent. Inherent means it can't be Drained, but does that also mean it can't be Suppressed? I was thinking they'd probably need some kind of protective suit, both to protect others from them and to avoid damaging their surroundings if they weren't shielded. If it can't be suppressed, how could I design a containment suit with the extant game mechanics?
  10. The Sword of Omens was possibly the BIGGEST plot device of the 80s. Every time the writers wrote themselves into a corner, some new power of the Sword was revealed. I'd probably make it a large (very, VERY large) Variable Power Pool with the OAF'ed Control Cost, since the sword almost literally did whatever was needed when it was needed.
  11. As the person in my group known as 'The Furry Player', I find this quite interesting. Ironically, most of my characters would still slap on the tux and go out acting like he should blend in seamlessly, as The Beast often does (or did ... I haven't read comics in a while). I could definitely see a 'Gentleman's Club' or similar upscale place set up by Dr. Silverback ... though you don't want to call it a Gentleman's Club, since that would exclude the female freaks ... or the ones with no sex, or both sexes ... Can you imagine what the insignias on the bathrooms at that place must look like? But at least Ogre could find steady work as a bouncer.
  12. I'm planning ahead for a villain team, giving them some code-word maneuvers to use in a fight. I'm devising a move between Tachyon and ... erm ... LeRoy The Awesome Exo-Skeleton Man. The Maneuver involves Tachyon grabbing someone, then throwing them at Leroy as he launches into a Move-Through, adding Tachyon's throwing speed to Leroy's effective velocity. (Of course, if Leroy's armor doesn't activate, he's going to be renamed 'The Stupendous Splat-Man', but that's another topic.) Now ... here are the questions ... 1. What's your DCV when being thrown? I'm guessing 1/2, but can't find it for certain. 2. How does the Knockback for the Move-Through work for a situation where the victim is moving towards the attacker? 3. What would you call this particular stunt?
  13. I think it's kind of an issue of confusing the cause and effect ... you change into your Hero ID to activate your powers. You don't activate the powers to turn into Hero ID. As an example, let's take classic Thor, who is, normally, Donald Blake, a pretty wimpy doctor (I know, this is REALLY out of date). Out of Hero ID, he has low-to-average stats except for his INT, and no powers. His character sheet would look like that of a Normal. Then, when he needs to, he can smack his cane twice on the ground. This is the trigger for him changing into his Hero ID. This, itself, is not written on the character sheet; it's part of the Hero ID limitation. After doing so, he gains access to that extra 90 or so STR bought 'Only In Hero ID', all the other stats and defenses and powers bought with OHID, looks different and probably has Instant Change to change from his suit into that spiffy Asgardian getup.
  14. Let me go on the record as being, apparently, one of perhaps three people in all of Herodom who actually LIKE Nighthawk's costume. But ... back to the topic! If I were to redesign the costume, though, I'd go with a kind of hood-and-mask setup a la Moon Knight, with a hawk emblem on the chest (a sideways silhouette of the bird in flight kinda deal).

  16. I'm still debating, though there are a LOT of really good ideas on this thread. Many kudos. I've pondered having Mechanon be a wayward government model, and pull the Sentinels bit from X-Men ... giving it far too broadly-defined programming to preserve peace. AND, since we're constantly killing ourselves anyway, the only way to have Peace On Earth is to kill everything living. My second idea was to have Mechanon be created by a Black Ops kind of group hidden in PRIMUS. Fearing government cutbacks and getting closed down, they created a genocidal robot to ensure that they'd always have high-ranking, well-connected, string-pulling government jobs. They even make the new Mechanon bodies ... and have a failsafe built in so he doesn't hurt them (but only them!). Of course, if he ever overrides that ... But I tend to play my governments too clean for that kind of stunt.
  17. Hmm ... I'm remembering one issue of Superman I read (possibly Pre-Crisis, so it may not count) where it was revealed that Clark's glasses (which were made out of fragments of his original rocket) amplified his very weak 'super-hypnosis' power ... so without really ever trying to, he made himself look smaller, thinner, weaker than Superman. Add that to the way the costume seems to amplify the ripped bod o' steel, that's supposedly another aspect of keeping his secret. (I think this was also after the same writer claimed Superman had 'super-telepathy', since he had Superman and someone else (Supergirl?) talking in space, sans radios or life support gear, for two issues straight, and he had to make something up to explain it. Comic readers can be so picky sometimes. )

Ah, the memories ... way back in my college Freshman days, I met up with the college gaming group, and someone was running a Supers game called 'Champions', which I had never heard of before in my life. Lacking any real idea of what there was to do, I translocated my last Marvel Superheroes character, a werewolf with sonic/vibro powers. Hey, it's better than translocating a D'n'D character, at least, isn't it? However, the team already had a sonic, so we switched it to Fire/Heat/Plasma stuff. I had to concoct a somewhat convoluted character background, involving a mutant biochemist who was bitten by a werewolf whom he was trying to cure. Thus was Firewolf born. Darn nostalgia. Now I want to remake him for 5E.
  19. The question, of course, depends on just what one defines as 'High'. For characters in ongoing campaigns (I once played in a 1000 point two-parter Cosmic game ... I'm not counting that) ... STR 60, DEX 33, CON 28, BOD 17, INT 33, EGO 23, PRE 20, COM 25, SPD 6 ... almost never buy up the other figured stats. I generally short Body, just tossing on an extra couple of points to avoid getting a terminal case of the deads too fast. I would have a higher Strength, but in most games I've been in, we have to do a Brick Lotto to see who gets to play the strong guy, 'cause everybody wants to.

  21. Generally, this is a Force Field with a linked Damage Shield; the super in question usually has Flight to go along with it (the Human Torch is probably the most famous example here), at least if it's an Energy Sheath. A Matter Sheath would likely be Visible Armor (see: Iceman).
  22. A few years back, I was running a kind of Avengerish/LSH game, and part of a game involved a 'cattle call' of recruits. As was tradition for LSH recruitment drives, the vast majority of the applicants had lame, stupid, and/or silly powers, except for the one who was actually a PC. The guy who broke up the meeting was named 'Meteor Attractor Boy'.
  23. One possibility for supering Wendy up would, of course, have her be in the presence of an exploding piece of Kelvarite. Now ... if it were me, I'd give her some ridiculous power level. Maybe rip Michael Surbrook's Vegeta write-up, or something similarly gross ... EXCEPT ... that she retains her own Dex and Speed, and has no levels with the powers ... result? All blast, no control. Add to that her hyperness and (in all likelihood) excessive enthusiasm, we have a disaster in the making. It's an old saw, but a fun one ... omni-powerful new superbeing swoops in on the more experienced crowd, attempts to 'wow' them with a phenomenal display of power, and instead just screws everything up by making a rookie mistake.

If you're a Hero old-timer, you could call the group 'Fandom', since the old Adventurer's Club letters column (answered by Foxbat, of course) was called 'Foxbat and Fandom', and see who gets it. (I still use the name 'Foxbat and Fandom' for whatever team of loonies Foxbat has wrangled up for a scheme ... it's just stuck in my brain somehow.) Foxbatallion was quite good. I like that one. I may steal it.
  25. Every Hero needs Foxbat for a sidekick, at least for one week.
