  1. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? I Just started over again. I've noticed a lot of tweaks here and there. So far it's my alternate, free time to burn not wanting to think to much entertainment. Before I started over I had gotten to around 33rd or so, so I haven't run into something like that. Could be a fluke, then again it could be mmo power creep as well. Anyway back to putting around in my ship, heh.... ~Rex
  2. Re: Silver Age/1950s Style Villains My Last Major arc for my own 6e Campaign was set firmly in the 50's. I've got PILES of 50's Badguys laying around at various point levels (though most are starting 400/75 guys but my campaign has some interesting limiters and freebies as opposed to caps and point levels).... If you want a few just shoot me an outline of what they will be facing and I can post up the sheets and what not..... ~Rex
  3. Re: Back to Traveller Hero When I was paring down the Game Collection for some extra room and cash (and it was a nice chunk of change from Nobel Knight too Thanks guys!) I couldn't bring myself to part with any of my Traveller material, even though the idea was to get rid of everything non Universal or Super Hero related..... So now I got to finish writing up some Supers Rules for MgT ~Rex...about half way done with it actually.....
  4. Re: New Hero System Players And Game Masters If you say so. I've only got One Computer so if I toss that off a Roof, I don't have a PDF anymore. My 5th Ed that went off the top of the Hyatt as a "Look how tough this book is PDF guy!" ended up with a dinged Corner. No ones gonna risk a 600 buck at the low end machine that way so it was an easy bet to win. Printing a PDF, costs me the same as buying the book. Though about reprinting Vol.1 + 2 but per page even in Black and White it's not worth it, since now I have the COST of the PDF on top of the Cost of the Machine to Read it On Top of the Cost to Print it then the Cost to Bind it.... Just rather buy a new Vol 1+2 and take the rest of the cash to Vegas for a weekend of Fun..... Making a zillion copies to hand out for free doesn't exactly help repeat business either. Granted, I've passed out more then a few PDF's here and there. Especially for my care package list overseas in Afghanistan right now. Their Request though was for more BOOKS, so Instead of picking up the Kindle Fire I was looking at the other day, I grabbed the last two sets of Vol 1 + 2 over here and another basic book and an APG with a touch of store Credit to round it out and a Trade in of an old Game Book (ever try trading in an old PDF? No Market for it) I still had gas money in my pocket and a nice gift for friends of mine playing HERO in Foxholes. Sticking with Books. You guys like the PDF's, I'm fine with that feel free to pick them up and use them, but my money is for Books, it goes further that way. ~Rex
  5. Re: WWE Snark-Free Zone Yeah that would be priceless...... His Vegan thing is cracking me up because he went that route because of his bout with recurring Liver Infections, and the no TV is because he's on the road most of the year and works out like a machine other then that. I tend to drop TV for years at a time anyway myself anyway (Who needs it with Netflix and a Computer anyway....) so the working all of that in to back his Heel bit... brilliant.... The "I Have until Five Though....." shame we can't post those outtakes, ~Rex.... But, I can show off two of my favorite Wrestlers in a ROH match This way you can see what Punk is borrowing from The Current WORLD CHAMPION! heh..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSwZIMIH2Rw&feature=related There is a touch of potty mouth from the crowd, but it's pretty muffled in the crowd noise. It's not ECW level though and the entrance bit is classic American Dragon Heel, heh.... YouTube hasn't jumped all over it for Potty Mouth stuff and it's off a primary channel so it should be clean enough where as the "I Have Till 5" Samoa Joa Brian Danielson stuff is a bit....uhm....blatant.
  6. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Hmm turns out I still had an account going there from way back in the day.... Thanks for the Info now let's see if I can get this to work...... http://www.herocentral.net/herocentral/get/files/premium/The+Trusty+Bike.HTML http://www.herocentral.net/herocentral/get/files/premium/The+Hell+Cycle%21.HTML ~Rex....think he may have puzzled out the Wheel. Now onto Fire and Cave Drawings.....
  7. Re: WWE Snark-Free Zone Oh he see's himself as a Heel. He's always been a Fantastic Heel. Take a dig for some of his pre WWE material. What's he's doing now is leading to that. Considering how much in need the WWE has for Good Heels that can draw insane heat from the crowd as well as get anyone over without looking like a Jobber, well that's basically, Bryan, Ziggler, Swagger, and one of my favorites of all time Jericho .....Other then the Monsters what have they got to work with? A solid core of Heels is more important then the Baby Faces. Heels do all the work. They're the Bomber Pilots of Pro Wrestling. ~Rex
  8. Re: Marvel Heroic Role playing compared to Champions/Hero System The single best Comic Book Simulation RPG I have ever seen, was the Marvel Universe Role Playing Game, that Marvel put out (Though the MEGS system ranks up there with it, MURPG had more granularity at the lower end of the scale so I bumped it a notch). I loved the format, it played Lighting Fast, Did everything you have ever seen in a comic book the way you see it in a comic book. It had a rather unique dice-less system that I actually found tolerable and a lot of people new to gaming picked up really quick, fantastic production quality, wasn't too over priced for what it could do though by volume and word-count it was a touch pricey. It's only real mistakes where it basically wasn't supported or pushed (though they did an X-Men and a Hulk/Avengers Supplement), and they had a couple of game mechanics they just didn't bother to explain but where on a lot of the character builds (Accumulate Energies comes to mind). They were also a great example of a "CONCISE" set of rules. Here is what you NEED. Here is the Consistent Art, Right where it needs to be, this is how you do 2+2=4. Almost impossible to find stuff for it though you can still find the books, but good luck getting answers about game things related to it (Again, Accumulate Energies).... Either way the Cortex folks seem to have found it's niche, and it's fanbase and they are happy with that, so I don't expect to see them go away anytime soon.... ~Rex
  9. Re: New Hero System Players And Game Masters I see your point. Bottom end set up to read all those PDF's some people seem to like is around 500 to 600 bucks for functionality during play (We tried the all Tablet Idea on the Demo Teams, rolled with iPad's so a bit more cash there. 6 Team GM's during that so, Right there, is around $3900 bucks), PLUS the PDF's. Now, aside from the fact I despise reading Lots of Material on a computer screen of any type, and most of them simply slow me down to much in terms of being able to flip right to I want (Unless I book mark this and that then adjust view then shift to these formats etc etc etc as opposed to, Open Book to Presence Attack.) I can buy, enough copies of the book to GIVE each of my players a book or books, for the cost of the silly thing I need to read the PDF (Figure what, 6 copies of Vol1+vol2 equals the cost of 1 Low End iPad). My Book doesn't need to be plugged into a wall or have the need to have extra batteries laying around and or cords everywhere that get tripped over when folks gotta go to the can. I need minimal light to read it. It doesn't kill my eyes to do so (provided it's not piles of glossy pages that I have to read under CSL light...). Someone steals my book I'm out 40 bucks give or take, I spill a beer on it I need a paper towel to fix it. I drop my book I pick it up. I drop my book off the top of the Hyatt in Indianapolis, I go down into the Alley and pick it up... I get that people that are into the tablet/puter thing and the PDF's like stuff like that. I like Aspects of it. I like digging through sites that host things like character sheets and stuff, I keep a couple of the PDF's on the computer if I need to print A Page of something. But heck only like 3 in 10 games bother with online forums like this, and of that batch, only a few folks are toting around 600 plus in machinery to read their 200 plus worth of PDF's. I'll keep on keeping on with my 100 bucks worth of books..... ~Rex....says his demand is for a book. If the suppliers don't want to make a book, that's their loss. Nature abhors a vacuum, and while the cost may go up, books are not going away anytime soon. Double the price of the books as they stand now and they are STILL cheaper by far then the lowest end comfortable tablet loaded with the same number of PDF's and even with the crappiest of book quality will outlast the digital witchery as well.
  10. Re: Marvel Heroic Role playing compared to Champions/Hero System Yeah I didn't find it much different in play then their Smallville game, albeit the stuff you play is more Iconic. I still find it very clunky but it's always cool to see a super hero game on the shelves..... ~Rex
  11. Re: Back to Traveller Hero Mongoose's take on Traveller was my primary Demo product for them, and it's Spin Offs (Judge Dredd, Hammers Slammers, and Strontium Dog, even the b5 rework ). Was my favorite game from back in the day other then Champions and Villains and Vigilantes, and is still my go to game when I need a change. Mighty fine game and I'm actually surprised someone other then myself spotted the good stuff mixed in with the classic stuff that never needed fixing... Reminds me I need to get a new copy of a couple of books thanks to an open window and some bad weather, but, still got some comp so no biggie.... Definitly do your own DeckPlans though. Just something about Traveller, you get great ships, but lousy Deck Plans. Unless it's a Merc Cruiser that things Perfect ~Rex
  12. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Thanks! I'll give it a shot when I get to a real computer..... ~Rex...on the wp7 phone...workin the live tiles
  13. Re: Who would play your hero(ine) in a movie? Hmm..... I guess I have two Characters playing right now over in Golden Age's Epic City game..... Real Pain though most of the guys I would pick are either gone, or pretty close to it..... ~Rex....thinks on it....
  14. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Bleh, wish I could post the bikes but there doesn't seem to be a pdf export for the vehicle sheets. All HTML, and working on the Windows side of the machine right now I'm a bit befuddled as to how to get them into a format that will post..... When I get back tonight I'll fiddle with it on the Mac side of things and see what I can make happen because the write ups aren't bad at all..... Of course the HDC files are posted so if you got HD you got the bikes, if not though I'm sure one of the smart HD people will craft Bricks without Straw for us, heh... ~Rex
  15. Re: New Hero System Players And Game Masters Smash the computers and tablets? Dunno what can be done really. I've Zero Interest Forever in a PDF product. It could be the best game product ever produced, and I would most likely never bother with it because it's not a book. The Only time I've purchased a PDF is to give it away as a gift either to Soldiers on my care package list, or other folks I know (again, splinter of a niche market) that desire the entire world to be assimilated by the digital age. Of course these people also demand the PDF cost like 5 bucks tops, so they have plenty of them to fill up their up to a thousand dollar or more PDF reading electricity sponge.... Gotta get the players young. Used to be back in the day with the Demo Teams we'd hit up schools, scouts, youth centers and other like functions, run games and demonstrate the other positive aspects of the hobby as well. Such a pain to do nowadays though. I've gotten so tired of tripping over technology that I haven't bothered to push a demo for anything even at a major convention in about 3 years now. Some Hobby Stores still have some gaming areas and that's not a bad hook to get a few people going then some word of mouth as well, but around here the Card Players and the Card Funk have driven off all the board gamers and RPGers. Guess it was just easier back in the days before everything became instant gratification and facebook style socialization .... ~Rex
  16. Re: New Hero System Players And Game Masters You can have my books and dice when you pry them from my cold dead hands...... ~Rex.....denies the digital age another inch of ground....
  17. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Now we see if I can get this to work right...... Bah. I can't get the Bike Sheets to post since I have to HTML export them. Someone smart tell me how to make them Hero Board compliant and I'll toss those up as well..... ~Rex
  18. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. The Multiform version is such a PITA to lay out, but let's see if I can do it without saving over one of the sheets again...... Hmm..... Can only attach 5 things per post, and the Rider uses a lot of sheets multiform wise.... So.....hdc stuff first..... Basically tis is a twisted build but it works. You've actually got Two Multiforms going. The Host has one for the Rider, and the BIKE, has another for the Hell Cycle. There's some stuff that the GM should have control with that's represented by some of the disads that I wouldn't force a player to build onto the sheet, since they are more sfx stuff then game effecting stuff.... Now for the pdf's and other exports if I can get it to work. Not that bright..... gimme a sec ~Rex
  19. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Thanks, there's a few different ways to go with some of the things but this build felt very playable and pulled off pretty much everything a nice starting Ghost Rider collage homage could do. Got a Multiform version of this build as well but I felt that sorta bent the "low end" perception I was getting from the OP. The Energy Blast Powers work for either "It's the Chain!" Ketch stuff or the "It's Hellfire!" Blaze stuff. Chain as TK pretty much allows every snatch grab/squeeze lift range smack etc etc. You got to juggle some points here and there and watch the END but as the Rider he's got sick speed and plenty of actions for options... Starting Low End version 5th Ed .....Got a few more (Up to and Including the current Travesty of a Ghost Rider) in both 5th and 6th I'll toss up later. Was really considering a build thread I'll give it some thought.... ~Rex
  20. Re: WWE Snark-Free Zone There's certain folks you can put in the ring with each other and they will always put on a total show. Then, you get a few others.... ~Rex
  21. Re: Question about physical quality of 5e Revised The Cover of FRED may as well be Diamond Plate. It does ding up, but it does it in the manner of "Chicks Dig Scars" not "OMG my Book is Melting!" ~Rex
  22. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Allrighty, here is a Ghost Rider homage build in 5th ed at 250 total.... I didn't give the guy a real vehicle to tool around on because any GM worth their salt would give you a 15-20 point Rat Bike to tool around on while not doing the HERO thing...... If they want to be a stickler for that, I can always give you the Multiform version of this build which is far more nasty but comes in at the same points. This build is very playable though, basically converted a 4th Ed build from back in the day.....
  23. Re: Marvel Heroic Role playing compared to Champions/Hero System Cortex is just clunky, not complicated. Does what needs to be done when you need it to do it. If you like, Lots of Dice Variety in addition to your lots of Dice then it's functional..... HERO is pretty easy to pick up. Even for the new folks... It just looks intimidating but it's not like it's Phoenix Command heh... HERO is far more versatile then Cortex, and a lot smoother. Cortex clunks itself up the more "power it gets" the rougher the road but it does the job at the lower levels. That's what makes it look more complicated. In Dice, Cortex basically goes Stat+Skill+Extras+Others - Complication Stuff try and hit the target number for difficulty, then apply the effect. Since you can have a basically every die under the sun going on there even at the Normal Human levels, it clunks up pretty quickly... Better off with HERO in the long run. Any thing you want when you want it, minimal clunk. Just got to pay attention to the scale of the game a bit here and there other then that it's actually fairly basic, especially 6th which removed the main thing that used to terrify certain gamers.... ~Rex
  24. Re: Something like Ghost Rider for 5th on 250 points. Arrgh so few points, so old an edition of the rules...... gonna take time to hammer it into place. Not trying to replicate Ghost Rider in 5th with only 250 to work with but I'm pretty close to the "type"... Just gotta nudge a few things... ~Rex
