  1. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise Just think, you could put the "Not safe for NOOBS!" on the front cover! ~Rex
  2. Re: The villain Nitro Nitro is actually pretty darn scary if you look at his OHOTMU write up and understand just how much power TNT has per pound or so in relation to the scale of the world.... ~Rex
  3. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise I didn't have any trouble figuring out Champions when I first picked up way back in '82 or so ..... One good example, is better then multiple pages of LCD question Answer was rinse and repeat... Sometimes you gotta just say it. Some Folks are just Dumb. Shouldn't have to torture the 10 Not Dumb people in order to let the 1 Dumb one gimp along and drag everything down to their level..... ~Rex..... Says Concise and Neat need not be unfriendly; over verbosity is easily corrected with a couple of clear concise and neat examples. Champions and HERO has had several examples (ha a repeat) of such, in several editions.... Besides, the single greatest component to getting folks to buy the product (other then a fantastically well run demonstration but that's another thread..) is the GM out there that brings in new people and introduces them to the game. That being said however; if the game is not aimed at him, but rather is designed as some sort of gigantic Gill Net to maybe fish in someone looking through pages here or there, well, that GM is going to Introduce the new players to OLD product the company isn't supporting and or making money on anymore.....
  4. Re: reference material for Street Heroes That's Kolchak: The Night Stalker! One of the greatest TV Shows ever. Shame it's revival didn't catch on, it was actually workable as well..... ~Rex
  5. Re: Unoficial Advance Players Guide 3 Survay. Honestly, while I think Steve made the best point, I'd like to see an APG III, with nothing but Horrid Power Gaming Examples and all the Stop-sign Nightmares one can think of. Then label it, The Power Gamers Guide. Sort of a Giant version of Goodman's Rules meets Planet Man and friends. ~Rex ......why not....Works for nearly any version of DnD.
  6. Re: reference material for Street Heroes Nice picks. Rather liked both of those shows as well. Was also a big fan of a show called John Doe that was running about the same time. Still think a few of those shows were ahead of their time and would be doing quite well on TV today..... ~Rex
  7. Re: Hard Back Rule Book *eyes his books* I can't even begin to describe..... But I also use the hell out of mine.... Been seeing some rather interesting Spine and Binding things with more then a few friends of mine that also have the books and they barely use theirs being more of the PDF breed (and "borrowing" mine in order to keep theirs "Pretty")..... It's one of the (several) reasons I want a 1 book FRED format version of 6e and one of the many reasons I hate glossy paged color game books.... ~Rex
  8. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? I'm getting the hang of it now. Almost regret shelling out a couple of bucks for a Tier 3 ship but I couldn't help it always liked the looks of the Excelsior Class.... Got up to Captain and snagged me a freebie Galaxy Class to wallow around in...... May tweak it's look a little bit if I can get over my OCD long enough to pull the trigger on a look I like, heh... ~Rex
  9. Re: 6e to 5e Martial Arts None though there are a couple of the powers you might have to tweak point cost wise. Frankly, if you aren't going to use 6e, better off sticking with 5e Ultimate Martial Artist and Ninja Hero. ~Rex
  10. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise Likewise. Besides all the other annoying things that come along with having all the pdf infrastructure involved. Frankly I'd rather pay a 100 bucks for a single book, then pay multiples of that for something that can read the silly PDF, then find some place to plug that thing in, to get in the way of everyone else that isn't part of that splinter minority, of a niche minority hobby...... Should companies make PDF's to sell, sure thing it's easy money. Will the PDF be the *cue sound effects* >>FUTURE!!!<< *shrugs* Not gonna happen. ~Rex
  11. Re: Second Best Game System ? Fast, well balanced, very faithful to it's source material (which btw are great fun comics to read, heh, and not just saying that because when I picked up my first copy of the game I had it signed by all hawking it, AND, the girl they had running around as Colt who looked, Just like Colt from the Femforce comics, heh) Reorganizing my game stuff at the moment when I find what box I moved it to I'll write something up on it. Feel like doing a Super Hero RPG thread anyway.... ~Rex ....Also notes it was practically immune to power creep but you had to watch players when they were gonna burn Bimbo points.......
  12. Re: Second Best Game System ? Aye, agreed..... BTW the Superbabes RPG was also a really good system ~Rex
  13. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise Another good point and one I felt echoed by many of the HERO gamers in this area..... ~Rex....swings the rep stick....
  14. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise One book to rule them all. Going Concise and enforcing consistency in the layout (Like having all Advantages and Disadvantages in one place again) you should be able to get 6e down to one book, roughly the size of FRED give or take a few pages here and there. I would be one for a few pages on "There will be Ill Intent.." If anything, to show the prospective GM's some "examples" before Planet Man or Margarita Man stealth into the campaign..... For all the fancier stuff, that's what APG style books are for. ~Rex
  15. Re: Second Best Game System ? Cortex is real Clunky though..... I gave it a serious try and we hammered the crap out of it when it first showed up. It ends up playing like a Slow version of Storyteller..... It's Not Horrible by any means. I could play it and not have the same gripes I have about a lot of other systems....... ~Rex....says it does improve drastically though, when you stretch out the Die types to incorporate the entire line of stuff from Game Science.
  16. Re: Charlton Action Heroes Hmm...Would be tough to stat but I don't think there would be to much difference. Mostly a matter of scale.... ~Rex
  17. Re: OT: Anyone try out STO FTP yet? Actually far more liberal in a lot of ways. Tried it, and it tends to occupy more of my time then the CO which I am paying for. Considering reversing that situation. ~Rex
  18. Re: Charlton Action Heroes Well supposedly Ted Kord still has a presence in the DCnU, so there's still some real Blue Beetle reference.... The rest are rather debatable at the moment, but they were pretty much All there pre Flashpoint. I'll poke around the vines a bit and see if some info falls out... ~Rex
  19. Re: Second Best Game System ? 1/10th your Strength cubed x 1/10th your End x half your body weight. Currently, though that's gonna change in the new rules apparently. Those rules looking very nifty so far..... ~Rex
  20. Re: Charlton Action Heroes Like i said, only Julius Schwartz will ever know and unless we hold a seance, we ain't getting the info out of him, heh. That dude was sheer brilliance in action though as far as what he did in the comic industry..... Wikipedia even jumped on the Elongated man/Plastic Man quote stuff, but then, Wikiaccurate .... Charlton though has left a pretty good legacy with most of it's "decendants" still in play here and there at least on the super hero level. Some of the stuff that went public domain though did get put to use by Dynamite with their Project Super Powers books. Those are a fun read if folks haven't seen them yet. ~Rex
  21. Re: Second Best Game System ? *Upgrades from Rocks to Boulders* ~Rex
  22. Re: More space news! When is our new Mars Dune Buggy supposed to crash into Mars? Anyone keeping track of this thing? ~Rex
  23. Re: Second Best Game System ? Not a fan of Fudge/Fate or Risus. Savage Worlds though if you watch out for the sinkholes is more then playable. ~Rex
  24. Re: Second Best Game System ? I have to say, as far as Second Best system goes after my preferred HERO is a bit tough to pick. Been in the hobby so long now that most of the ones I really liked aren't around or are Hard to find. I've a soft spot for the MEGS system, though I think the Blood of Heroes clowns over at Pulsar need a swift kick in the face for the crap they published using that game engine. Got a Soft Spot for the Marvel FASERIP stuff as well. Not to mention Villains and Vigilantes which is probably my Number 2 game (And soon to get a 3.0 version).... Oh, Chaosiums Basic Role Playing System, GREAT stuff. Gotta toss that in as well.... Anything d20 I avoid; though G.M. Sarli's e20 project was looking interesting. Was never a M&M fan of any edition for reasons that would take pages to describe, and REALLY liked, West End take on the DC Universe as an RPG, but alas, that went the way of all the West End d6 product. Fuzion I liked as well not to mention, R/Talsorians Interlock stuff .... And the old go to system, Traveller, either Pre Mega Traveller or Current Mongoose version ..... Lota stuff out there though..... ~Rex
