bigbywolfe reacted to Lord Liaden in Funny Pics II: The Revenge
As a glasses-wearer since childhood, I can tell you they're not part of our outfit. They're part of our face.

Meme-people, if you're going to imply your cat can think abstractly, at least have them think with basic proper grammar.

If it's written by Stephen King at least it'll be done really fast. If it's written by GRRM it may never end.

No, Depp would worry me in this role. He's capable of great performances, but in recent years he's gotten lazy, portraying eccentric weirdos whose defining characteristic is eccentric weirdness. I'm afraid he'd stay on the surface of Joker and not plumb his depths.
Then again, I've never been fond of either Joker or Batman, so my opinion probably carries little weight.

I have binged RWBY on YouTube up to the end of Season Three. That, of course, resulted in an hour of utter shock and at least thirty minutes of shallow breathing afterwards.
Two more seasons to go and I'll be caught up.
That a web animation has the capacity to do that to me (who has seen the world destroyed onscreen on many occasions) is a great testimony to the talent of its creators.
RWBY Chibi, by contrast, is Internet comfort food in which dead characters in the regular series are still alive. it also means:

bigbywolfe reacted to Hugh Neilson in Theories Why Romulans are Irish on Star Trek Picard
Actually, how does one create a believable, consistent fictional accent? If you give all characters who speak Romulan an Irish accent, there is at least a consistent ability to recognize who hey are within the fiction (as long as we don't have a bunch of characters from Ireland who also have Irish accents).
Would it be better if they all had American accents?

Took my mother (age 74) to see Howl's Moving Castle at OMSI. It is the story of a young girl named Sophie who gets caught up in the machinations of competing wizards and witches, and in the process is cursed to age prematurely into an old woman. I didn't know if Mom would enjoy it, but I really wanted to see it on the big screen.
She did like it a lot, but there's a lot going on in the movie and she didn't quite understand it. Hayao Miyazaki's painterly sensibilities are in full force, and visually it is a beautiful film. But there are also a lot of terrifying moments as well -- there's a war going on, and Sophie is caught in air raids a couple of times.
The English dub features classic-era Hollywood actresses Jean Simmons and Lauren Bacall.

Aaaaaand . . . there's a HUGE middle ground between this and armoring up characters who don't wear armor.

Movie superhero suits cannot look like the comics. Because film and video display more detail than most comic art (because deadlines). Therefore you get multi layered spandex with texturing, and overlapping plates. This is because the suit has to look visually interesting at unflattering angles during stunts, as well as closeups. Marvel currently is the best at it, picking visually contrasting materials and intricate details, though at the extreme end was Ironman, where the suit was totally CGI. A good friend animated the suit by hand without mocap data for the scene where a champagne drunk Tony Stark embarrasses Pepper at a public function. The suit was based on the designs by Adi Granov, which honestly cannot be worn by humans. But Marvel has the money to pay for the CGI. On the other end of the spectrum was the Shazam movie, where the suit was merely adequate, but looked like a padded muscle suit under microscopically tailored, matte finished or flocked spandex. Simple spandex Suits in solid colors just end up looking like cheap jazzercise costumes, and don't reflect well on the budget or the actor wearing them.
