The full benefits of Telekinesis can almost be achieved using Strength, Stretching (in place of Range and Indirect), and Extra Limbs (to allow multiple grabs like TK)... If you don't look at the issue to closely.

But even in such cases TK has several unique advantages: For one thing, a TK Grab is a lot better than a STR Grab (and no amount of Stretching can make STR use the rules for TK Grabs instead), it is harder to block (because it is a Ranged Attack), and while TK Damage is more expensive, Martial Arts for TK aren't.

So in the end you are getting a lot more out of TK than you would from an STR "Punch" with Ranged (+1/2).

Plus there is the disadvantage that using Stretching STR still requires you and the enemy to be engaged in Hand-To-Hand Combat... even with Doesn't Cross Intervening Space, the basic effect of the power doesn't change: It grants you the ability for one part of your body to be up to Xm away from the rest of it (increased Reach is simply one of the more obvious benefits of that effect). Whatever part of your body you are Stretching "through a portal" (literally one of the 6e1 examples of Doesn't Cross Intervening Space) to grab them with is still within the target's reach, and thus can be attacked by them. The advantage of the Advantage in this case being that otherwise anybody could attack the outstretched limb... not just the target.

    It's a fair point, not a whine.

I'd still prefer just limiting the total dice / AP of aid/drain/transfer allowed when it applies against one of the problematic defense powers / characteristics, to having to do the math differently for those.

It's possible to view a transcript taken from the automatically generated captioning that YouTube does.  If you look under the video frame, at the thumbs-up/thumbs-down/share/add-to/three-dots menu, click the three dots, then Open Transcript.  It's for sure not a real transcript; it doesn't track the speaker, and you get occasional homophones that are pretty easy to figure out from context.

I can have a better transcript up sometime this weekend, if someone else doesn't get to it first.

You'll definitely want Touch on there; Mental is a nice bonus.

Unless you were going to add in Persistent, I'd suggest replacing 0 END (+1/2) with Costs END Only to Activate (+1/4).  That brings the AP cost down to 50 points.  I'd also consider Extra Time for the Long Term Disguise (but not have that on the Temporary or Minor Alteration ones).  Full Phase is (-1/4), while I believe 1 Turn would be (-3/4).  Maybe also Concentration (0 DCV during activation; -1/2).

Personally, I'd go with a 0 END, Persistent Long Term Disguise version with Concentration (0 DCV during activation) and Extra Time (1 Turn).  70 Active Points, 31 Real Points.

Eh, careful on assuming malice when simple ignorance - or difference of opinion - is more likely the case.

HERO is an incredibly detailed and complicated system, and I have yet to find any two tables that play it exactly alike so far as adherence to RAW vs. house-rules vs. common misunderstandings.

It's a 700 or so page volume of rules for 6E, not that much less for 5E.  We're gonna get some things wrong, and not everyone has the same dramatic sense.

    "In that exact wording" no.

But if you read up on the BOECV and AVLD (I forget the 5th edition term, but think it is "Attack Versus Limited Defense" - in 6E it is "Attack vs. Alternate Defense") it should be a little more clear.

    No.

Only if you go with "Attack Versus Alternate Defense" would you need the +1 "Does BODY" adder.

Basically, whatever CV it uses doesn't affect whether it can do BODY.

Only the defense the attack applies to matters for that.

Nice Ramble, but...  he is pretty much specifically talking about Psychokinesis example power as listed in the main books.

I can dig up a build, but basically +STR, +CON,+PD/ED, +BODY; with appropriate modifiers depending on build (ie. "costs END" for a guy that grows, nothing if it is just a big critter but I want it noted that the characteristics are due to size) and then stretching and KB resist if applicable / big enough.  Then a side effect for the increased mass, size, DCV penalty, etc.

Part of this is just due to Growth (using HERO Designer) not really listing all of that very well on the character sheet compared to a list or custom power (custom power is somewhat hard to read, but at least lists everything out.)

No, just a very old book and now a new edition that doesn't have Independent at all.

I don't see this as necessary for Duplication; both duplicates are paying for the power, thus both have their own focus.  I could be mis-remembering 5E rules on this, natch.

Source code is only if you want to tinker with it yourself or build apps that pull from the various exports HD can do.

You only need to buy the core HD software to make characters and prefabs and such.

It really is invaluable and very, very complete.

Note:  You don't have to build the power armor as a single, compound power.

I usually design such using a list; I apply the modifiers that all items will have to the list, then any specific modifiers for a given item in the list only to that power / item.

This works especially well for equipment, since it also makes it easier to add or remove parts individually.  Easier to read on the character sheet, as well.

If at first it doesn't succeed, it will try, try again.

I'm not sure how Nega-Beam is relevent, besides being highly illegal and abusive. It is the second most terribly written power I've ever seen (the first being Captain Chronos in general and his NND Entangle specifically). Nega-Beam uses Summon to create a "Character" that represents an Attack.

HERO System should have long since included an Advantage for representing Homing attacks... so that we did not require such an atrociously built construct to represent a fairly common trope. For Example:

Homing (+1/4): Allows the Attack to function similarly to a heat-seeking missile. If a Homing Attack misses its target, it will bank around and attempt to attack the target again next phase (using the same OCV it initially attacked with). A character must normally pay END to maintain a Homing Attack (but needn't take any further action to maintain it). A Homing Attack is considered to have a number of meters of Flight equal to its maximum range. Homing Attacks have a normal Turn Mode (unless it takes No Turn Mode) and must obey all of the standard rules for acceleration/deceleration; meaning that it is fairly easy to block homing attacks (compared to other ranged attacks) or trick them into hitting something else (a Sucker Attack).
  19. Confused
Funk Thompson reacted to Cantriped in Merging?
Equipment doesn't "vanish" when you change to a form that didn't pay for it... Which is an obvious opportunity for abuse. The common solution is that The Hulk can't or "won't" use Bruce Banner's equipment... even if it is a weapon or vehicle that might only cost 1-point to learn to use.

Otherwise, if your GM is blind, you can build a Character that spends about 1/4 of his points on an Inherent Multiform (into an alternate form that is awesome with equipment), and the remainder on awesome equipment (like giant mecha). Then you just throw away the effectively 0-point True Form that is never going to be seen again, and play a character with more than half again as many points as everyone else for no legitimate reason.
Be wary of the Multiforming Super-Pilot whose True-Form's Vehicle can Summon Automaton "Drones" controlled by the True-Form A.I. Computer Follower...

With the default Knockdown rules a knife can cause knockdown without the target taking any BODY damage.
Presuming a standard knife (a 1/2d6 HKA, STR Min 6) and a character with 16 STR or more.
If he hits the target the knife can do up to 7 BODY (on 1d6+1), On average this will result in no Knockdown/back, but if you rolled a 6 or less on the Knockback/down modifier (on 3d6) the attack will cause Knockdown (or 2-8m Knockback). This remains true even if the target wears Armor providing 7 or more rPD (enough to stop the knife from doing BODY).

Note, Space Marine armor looks crazy heavy, and probably provides Knockback Resistance (use the Mass templates for guidelines as to how much). Because they are determined the same way, Knockback Resistance also protects the character from Knockdown (unless it is caused by an Impairing or Disabling Wound, as those are described as being automatic).

I keep looking for a place to fit
Where I can speak my mind
I've been trying hard to find the people
    That I won't leave behind
    They say I got brains
But they ain't doing me no good
    I wish they could

Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
    But what goes wrong

    Sometimes I feel very sad
    Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)
    Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)

I guess I just wasn't made for these times

Every time I get the inspiration
    To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found
Where can I turn when my fair weather friends cop out
    What's it all about

Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
    But what goes wrong

Ah, that blip mechanic where you'd never know how many genestealers the blip represented so you'd take a chance, open a door and three of the buggers would leap out and shred you. I looked up their stats earlier for this. The current tabletop has them moving 1.5x as fast as humans but the FFG RPG version had, I shit-you-not, 4x the speed of a regular human. Closest thing to a teleport a living creature can get!

I don't know what I'll do for them in this yet, but they'll definitely be calibrated as Space Marine level opponents. For anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about, GW took the creatures from Alien, gave them two extra arms and a life cycle that was twice as terrifying.

All I know is that the Space Marines did not feel at all overpowered for me when playing Space Hulk.

Move, Overwatch...  what do you mean I don't get to shoot the genestealer before it tears me in half?

Granted, I did not know the rules very well, but my squad of 5 Terminators barely killed 5 genestealers before being torn apart.
