  1. Do you remember how after 911 prisoners in Sing-Sing offered to donate blood? Same thing happened after Pearl Harbor. "We may be crooks, but we're American crooks!" Now imagine the extrapolation into the super world. A super villian contacts the PC's, wants to talk under a flag of truce. If they show up at the meeting and attempt to capture him, he'll say nothing; but if they honor the truce (and being 40's heros they should), he'll tell them that through his underworld contacts he has become aware of an spy/sabatage ring operating in the campagine city. He agrees to lead the PC's to them on two conditions, 1. they allow him to be "in on the kill" and go with them o arrest the spys and 2. the truce continues, and he is allowed to go free after the spys are captured (not a pardon for any past crimes, just a head start before they try to capture him again.) Three possibilities, and with different villians you can use all three. (1.) Everything is exactly as he said, and with the villian's help the spy ring is smashed. (2.) Supervillian is actually deep cover Axis mole, and leads PC's into a death trap. (3.) Spys are ficticious, Supervillian is neural, PC's into death trap again, but this time Supervillian is offering the heros to the highest bidder, Allied or Axis.
  2. What about The Blob? Maybe a baby shuggoth? Space race may have had hidden agenda, possibly Something exiled on Earth may have been advancing it to get a ride back home. The Red Scares were more the 50's, but there was some left in the 60's. Invasion of the Body Snatchers and other "the enemy walks among us undetected" plots. The Creature from the Black Lagoon cycle. Basicly a deep one. As V suggested, The Monkeys and other rock groups. Maybe the British Invasion was a cover for another Invasion from elsewhere?
  3. Point out that as offically sanctioned heroes they are, in effect Cops! Have some villians sue for police brutality. Others walk out of court free because of technical errors in the arrest, or evidence being destroied in the crossfire.
  4. How far back can we go? Must adventures be set in the 21st century? The two that come to my mind are Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones.
  5. I would say"gadgeteer" rather than "inventor." The action hero who refused to carry a gun but who demonstrated that weapons can be improvised from a Swiss army knife, found objects, 4 oz of plastic explosive, and a fully equiped props department.
  6. Re: Re: Re: Re dragons/wyverns I've never heard any definition of leg that says the term may be used interchangeably with wing. I've never heard of a bat's wing being referred to as its leg. If they use it to fly, it's a wing, even if it is also used to schlep around on the ground. A dragon has 4 legs and 2 wings, six "limbs" total. (Part of the heraldric symbolism is that a dragon is a beast that has its feet foursquare on the ground, yet aspires to heaven.) Vermathrax had 2 legs and 2 wings, four "limbs" total. Not a dragon.
  7. Re: Flash Suppressors/Silencers I would just use invisable power effect, and see if the GM agreed that ment inaudible as well.
  8. Team America US 1 The entire New Universe, but especally Starbrand While some things he did with Ghost Rider and Hulk were good, Shooter's best days were with the LSH. (I believe he was the first Ghost Rider writer who actually knew anything about motorcycles.) Shooter gets a lot of the blame for changes that were probably inevitable. Before Shooter ther was the Marvel Bullpen, several artist and writers at their own drawing boards and desks in one big room, with a creative give and take. After Shooter was the era of the freelancer, talent working in their own offices or studios more or less in isolation, communicating by mail and phone (and later FAX). Shooter deserves credit for making the brains run on time, for making the industry more businesslike and imposing the discipline of deadlines and all but eliminating those annoying unscheduled reprints that use to crop up somewhere almost every month (about half the time in Englehart's titles if memory serves). But there are those among the talent who felt that as it became more of a business it also became less of an art.
  9. Who says dragons get that large? On a tour of Europe we visited the church were St George is suppost to have slain the dragon (don't remember where this was and I'm too tired to look it up now). The facinating thing was the medeval mural behind the altar showed a critter more the size of an alligator than a dinosaur (and yes, I am aware there were small dinos).
  10. Was a pretty good historical overview of the genre. Am somewhat suprised they went into such detail about the death of Electra and didn't even mention Phoenix. May have been a result of which creators they could interview. (Didn't see Clairmont, Byrne, or Shooter.)
  11. I love the 21st century. DirecTV will bring the program from a sattelite in Clark orbit to my desktop in just under an hour.
  12. I would go with the multipower. Part of researching a new spell would be that the character has to have XP to create a new multipower slot to be able to use the spell. This would force the players to consider "is this worth 3 experience points for a spell I may never use again, or is there some other way to get what we neeed?" Also makes spell research "cost" the player as well as the character.
  13. Re: Re dragons/wyverns Two Legs. Two wings. And tail ending in something resembling a scorpion's sting. http://www.dracoslair.net/slay10.jpg
  14. Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the dragon wasn't a dragon, bu a wyverine? Good movie, but that was not a dragon!
  15. That would be an interesting limitation. Maybe the main power battery can generate (for example) 3600 END in a 24 hour period, and at the begining of a combat the GM secretly rolls dice to see how much END is available to power the player's VPP (the rest having already been used by other corps members). The player would quickly learn the value of using reduced END or 0 END powers routienly, but still be able to call on the full strength pushed EB when needed.
  16. 3600 doesn't seem like enough for a single galaxy, much less the Universe. But how big is the Universe? And in your world is space open, flat, or closed? I believe in the DC universe, space is closed, and in the classic Green Lantern Corps each member was responsable for an "orange slice" (forget the mathmatical term) one-tenth of a degree wide starting at Oa and going out 15 billion light years. Anyone remember enough geometry to calculate the volumn of space that means each individual is responsable for patroling?
  17. Do you really need to stat out dieties? They should be plot devices, not characters.
  18. It's a genre convention. Considering that caracters can also deliver Hamlet's soliquility in a single phase, it's not unreasonable.
  19. Can't believe I'm about to do this! OK, let's get it right. Good Idea: PC based on Legion of Super Heros member. Bad Idea: PC based on Legion of Substitute Heros member.
  20. Mis-interpeted the "elemental" in the original post, BUT, as a GM I would allow active sonar as an "air" power.
  21. Think the explosive EB was probably the way to go, but definitely Area Effect would have been your friend in this case. Dispell, EB, or entangle could all have been useful. The force globe is something I would not have thought of, but sounds good. Could you have used part of your pool for an enhanced sense? Or area effect enhanced sense for your team?
  22. Cheeta ON HIMSELF: "Yes, I did this to myself. I cheated. I was an athlete, and while I was better than anyone not juicing, I could not compete with those who were juicing. So they cheated first, I was just leveling the playing field. And as this stuff was too new to be banned, I wasn't violating the letter of the rules, only the spirit. So I took the stuff, and the side effects turned me into a freak. Life, as I knew it, was over, now I have to see what I can make of my new life." DOLPHIN: "In future centuries, Buddhist will build statues of him. He radiates serenity." IRON WILL: "With that respirator, he reminds me of Darth Vader. Nice enough guy, but hard to find common ground between a jock and a guy who's never walked." MILLENNIUM: "Worst poker player ever! Doesn't know how to bluff, how to lie, or how to betray a friend. He'll watch your back through Hell itself." SNOW LEOPARD: "I enjoy sparing with her. She's not as strong as Dolphin or Millennium, but more aggressive than the two together, and almost as agile as I am. I could go for her, but she's pining over Dolphin, and Will's pining over her, and I'm staying out of that triangle.
  23. Millennium ON HIMSELF: "I am the Hero With a Thousand Faces, I am Gilgamesh and Theseus, Arthur and Lancelot, the Lone Range and Luke Skywalker. I have a duty to protect the innocent, to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. Above that, I have a duty to set an example that others would do well to emulate, to inspire others to find the Hero within themselves. But I must always be wary, less I stumble. As high as I have risen is half the distance I can fall if, like Oedipus, I allow my flaws a foothold." CHEETA: "Has a short attention span, but I guess that's what comes of living in a world that, by your standards, is moving in slow motion. Admire his courage. I'm bullet proof, he'll charge suspects with guns catching the bullets out of mid air. Catching them, not just dodging them, so they don't hit anyone else. Good man." DOLPHIN: "It is said that the eyes are the window of the soul. His are aqua, as deep as the Pacific. He is the calmest person I have ever met, I've never heard him raise his voice, strike out in anger, or even in self defense. Stronger than me, he prefers grabs and holds to punches, fighting only in defense of others or the environment. He believes more in the power of Redemption than any other man I've ever met, convinced that any villain or polluter would instantly repent and change their ways if they only understood the full impact of their actions." IRON WILL: "His spirit is as strong as his body is weak. The illness ravaging his body defies analysis, even with my healing touch I can only give him the ability to breath on his own and move his arms for a few hours. With his respirator and hover-chair, he is the most vulnerable hero I've ever met. Yet his courage is matched only by the range of his powers." SNOW LEOPARD: "I am appalled by her casual attitude toward life and death. She has no regard for the safety of bystanders, her teammates, or even herself. She's very close to nature, both the planetary weather system and her own animal nature, This 'circle of life' attitude makes her not courageous, but fearless. In many ways she's more an animal than a human being, even though she is one of the more beautiful women I've ever met."
  24. Snow Leopard: "Bruses, no lacerations. I don't hit, I slice. Suspect me when you find him gutted, skinned, and hung up like a side of beef." Millennium and Iron Will would apply massive amounts of aid. Come to think of it, Iron Will never would have been there. "You want a quadroplegic to guard a supervillian awaiting trial? While I admire your dedication to equal opportunity, it's not my job and you can't make me." If Millennium was not able to save him, would count on his rep, it would be dishonorable to eather attack a prisoner, strike the first blow in combat, or initiate combat while his foe was at a disadvantage. Either would fully cooperate with investigation. While both Cheeta and Dolphin are physically capable of administering a beating like that, both are well known for their Codes vs Killing (a 25 pt one in Dolphin's case). They would cooperate with the authorites and count on forenstics to clear them. (Doubt that the poison could create bruses that would match their fist prints.)
  25. Cheeta (speedster): Continue multiple move-bys on the minions. Dolphin (semi-pacifist brick): Continue protecting civilians, Presence Attack the minions. "You're Boss is down. Lay down weapons so the paramedics can treat him, or your paychecks will bounce like superballs!" Millennium (ultra boy scout, embodies Campbell's "Hero With a Thousand Faces"): Fly over, apply Lancelot-like healing touch, fully expecting that when Dr. D is better he can call upon a debt of honor to get him to call a cease fire. Iron Will (quadroplegic telekinetic gadgeteer): Use TK to remove his armor, rig defibulator from gadget pool. Snow Leopard (daughter of Storm by Wolverine): Superleap over, pull off his helmet, pop claws and Presence Attack the minions. "Drop guns NOW or your boss gets carved like a brisket!"
