Kharvaach- Born in Deluun Boldog, near the reputed site of the birth of Genghis Khan, and trained since childhood in the arts of the ancient Mongolian warrior by a father whose obsession with the past led him to kill himself when his son was 16, as he could no longer live in the modern world.  This stressful incident caused the young man to manifest enhanced strength, speed, and agility after having a dream of being visited by an ancestor who was part of the Mongol Horde of Genghis Khan.  This ancestor demanded the young man go out into the world and bring honor and glory back to the family.  When he awoke, the young man discovered his new enhanced abilities, as well as the power to summon a horse of apparent celestial origin, and renamed himself Kharvaach (Archer), leaving his former life and name behind.  In the last ten years he has appeared all over Mongolia to protect the people of his country from whatever forces seek to harm them.

Armed with A Mongolian recurve bow that fires arrows able to penetrate nearly any surface, strike ghosts or others whose bodies are not physically solid (including the astral form of mystics/psychics), or pass themselves through solid objects to hit those behind them; and riding his celestial horse, this warrior has become a symbol of pride in Mongolia, reminding the people of a glorious past.

шидтэн (meaning Wizard) would be the soooo old and time ravaged mystic of the group, acting as both a spiritual guide, a man of wisdom, and a scholar.

his powers would be linked to the Mongolian ground, making him the natural guardian of his people. Those wold include powwers on the elements (Earth, fire, air, water) and onto plants and animals aswell. Maybe even the ability to talk with ancestors and imbue his team with more abilities

As a costume he would wear traditionnal furs and feishes, and have an ascet life.

The Mongol King:

Long ago there was a legend much similar to Romulus and Remus in Mongolia and China. Two brother, each commanding a great army split the land in two. One travels south to modern China and the other north to modern Mongolia. Each establishes a great and powerful kingdom, yet a kingdom that despite its power could not survive past their kings' deaths. In time, their efforts and legacies were all but forgotten by history; only folklore past down through the ages still accounts for them. But not now.

A would be necromancer stumbled across the Great Mongol King and seeking to add him and his essence to his collection tried to bring in back. But the Necromancer's magics were no match for the sheer force of will the Great Mongol King possessed. Soon he found himself bending before the might of his new God-King. Now the newly resurrected King seeks to reclaim what was rightfully his family's. He has used his new thrall of a necromancer to raise a slavishly loyal army for him.

Son of Tengri

Örgöö Süch is the offspring of a mortal woman (a factory worker from Ulaanbaatar) and the Mongolian God of the Everlasting Blue Sky, Lord of the Wind and Wielder of Thunder and Lightning, Tengri.

He grew up as a pretty normal, if weak and rather smallish boy and was neither a good wrestler, horseman or archer - so basically the exact opposite of a good Mongolian sportsman. His mother had multiple and changing lovers and did not care much about the "friut" of one of her one-night-stands with a big, burly mountain of a man who she could hardly (but fondly) remember and who was nothing like the boy. But his grandmother - a shaman - knew that there was something about the boy that connected him with the steppe, the sky and all of Mongolia. She took him under her wings and soon the boy showed talent. During one of the many nights in the windy steppes outside the city they watched to their astonishment that teh stars seemed to circle, then fall and formed a wonderful white Wind Horse that decended from the very sky. It aproached the boy, nighed and then suddenly rushed into his breast (becoming smaller in the process)!

Thus the power of Tengri, his father, entered the boy and changed him.

And whenever danger befalls the good people of Mongolia, the Son of Tengri unleashes his inner "Wind Horse" and turns into a powerful Mongolian warrior, brimming with lightning power, flying through the very sky or striding the steppes with one mighty step, unleasing the Wrath of the Sky Khan against evil-doers!

Quote: "In the Name of the Everlasting Blue Sky: Enough of this! Feel the Wrath of the Storm Khan!"

And don't even dare to quote Star Trek on him - you will regret it (be witty at your one peril, mortal)!

Siva

In Polish mythology, fire flowers are mystical blooms. To find this powerful plant Ivete Zaleski had to enter a forest before midnight on the Eve of Kapula (St John's Feast, summer solstice). The flower climbed up the stalk of the fern, and precisely at midnight it bloomed so brightly that Ivete could not look directly at it. In order to harvest it, a circle had to be drawn around it, and Ivete had to deal with demons trying to distract her from doing so. It was said that if you answered the voices, or faltered during the task, it would cost you your own life. With the possession of this flower, Ivete gained the ability to read minds, find treasure, and repel evils.  She confined these activities publicly to a new alternate identity - Siva, named for the Slavic goddess of life and fertility.

Siva thought that when she released the fireflower that her troubles would be over but that was just the beginning. As with so many ancient lore not everything is carried down through the generations. And this one turned out to be one such tale.

The elusive fire-flowers do indeed grant great powers, but those powers come from the syphoning off of trapped demons. This particular bloom held the youngest sister to the Great Baba Yaga, Baba Yaga. Now released from her prison she seeks to revive her older sisters. While still weakened from the centuries of captivity, she is growing more powerful with every passing of the moon and with every innocent child she... well, not all fairy tales end with a happily ever after.

Okay, so with the Polish one done, lets move onto a new one. Assuming it is okay for me to choose, I am thinking about a "Blast from the past" theme. 5 Heroes or Villains from any location in the world with the only criteria being that they have some kind of link with an ancient civilization (trying to revive one, actually lived long ago, or some other variant). Lets see what people have for this one!

THE PRESERVER

Originally named "Utnapishtim,"  the Preserver was a man born into a wealthy merchant family in Mesopotomia around 2900 BC.  During his lifetime the king of the gods, Enlil, decided to destroy humanity, which had proven too populous, unruly, and noisy and disturbed him.  Enlil decided to destroy humanity with a series of plagues.  Another god, Enki, opposed this decision and secretly approached the mortal Utnapishtim and gave him instructions on how to counter each plague.  Finally catching on, Enlil prepared a final, secret, plague, a flood that would drown all humanity.  Enlil forced Enki to swear not to tell the secret to anyone, but Enki worked around this by speaking the warning aloud in an empty room on the other side of a thin reed wall from Utnapishtim, hypothesizing that humanity could be saved if someone were to build a huge ark filled with people and animals to be saved from the waters.  Utnapishtim used up all his worldly possessions to build such a vessel, which he named the Preserver of Life.  This saved the vestiges of humanity.

Utnapishtim's actions, and Enki's persuasion, managed to impress Enlil enough to relent in the destruction of humanity, and he instead devised a less extreme set of measures to prevent human overpopulation.  The gods granted Utnapishtim himself immortality for his acts.  He later became known as Ziusudra to the Sumerians, Atrahasis to the Akkadians, and Noah to the Hebrews; versions of his story appear in the Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest epic poem in the world, and the Judeo-Christian Bible.  Most versions of the story indicate he was the first (and in some instances, also the last) mortal being ever to achieve immortality.

What few know is that the immortal Utnapishtim is still active to this day, and still devoted to the role Enki gave him: he is the Preserver, and he is completely dedicated to the survival of humanity.  He is no longer directed by Enki, but the Preserver carefully observes long-term threats to the survival of humanity and makes long-term plans to counteract.  His only super-power is his apparent complete inability to die (Life Support unaging and resurrection-inclusive Regeneration).  Yet the Preserver is not necessarily a hero; he is often ruthless in his actions.  Further, he cares little about "garden variety" disasters, he is only concerned by extinction-level threats.   The Preserver will not try to avert mass genocide -- he may actually welcome an occasional 'culling' for the perceived long-term good of the species -- as long as he can save some to repopulate.

I really like that idea! He could be an excellent villain, I think. Something similar to the League of Shadows (or at least the one from the new movie series). He believes that humanity is on target to destroy large swaths of life and in doing so risk their own. To counter this, he purposely sets up an international organization dedicated to stopping it; perhaps by effecting some kind of wide spread killing (bio-engineered plague, nuclear war, Post-Nuke EMP war, etc). Or perhaps even aiming to set up some kind of temporary Hegemony to effect change. All the while he is more than willing to use his network to help aid the HEROes in stopping threats like mechanon or Dr. D.. Perhaps the aid he gives to the PCs endears him to them and thus causing the realization of his ulterior motives all the more shocking.

Iyo of Wa.

Long ago before even the first emperors of Japan there was a kingdom in Japan known by the Chinese as Wa. In this kingdom there was a woman of extraordinary ability. A sorceress queen name Himiko. A beloved and powerful ruler she was. So grand was she that when she communicated with he great Emperors of China she referred to the Emperor of the even then ancient lands as her equal: "I, the queen of the rising sun, decree to you, King of the setting sun..." Under her rule the Wa experienced great peace. Not not all those blessed with the privillage of service were happy with their roles. Some grew despondent.

One day there came a message from the Emperor of China; a request for assistance from Queen Himiko. Seeking to maintain her strong alliance, the Queen responded in full faith and headed across the sea to visit her fellow ruler. Little did she know that this was the all a ruse by her rivals. While at sea the betrayers called forth a great storm to drag the Queen to the bottom of the sea. Upon her death the kingdom fell into despair and chaos. The betrayers never saw their dreams of rule come true but their children's children finally did and formed the now noble linage of the Royal family. Rewriting the history of Japan they removed as much reference to the once great queen as they could. But not all have forgotten.

Enter the young lady, Iyo. She is the reincarnation of Himiko's most trusted maiden. Gifted with ancient powers from her re-birth and aided by a shadowy organization established following the rise of the first emperor, she seeks out the ancient items of power tht Himiko retained. And once she collects them all she will perform the great rituals to restore Himiko's essence to this world and overthrow the imposter king of Wa and revive the great kingdom of Wa.

Iyo is not a villain per se but she is wholly focused on restoring the life of her former Queen and doesn't care what is required to do so. And to do so she must hunt down the various items of power that have been scattered across the globe. Once she does, it will surely spell the end of the 1500 years of continuous rule by the Royal Family of Japan and a drastic change in the governance of Japan.

Re: three of ________ items of power- the local ones.  The Imperial Regalia of Japan (三種の神器 Sanshu no Jingi?) ("Three Sacred Treasures") consist of the Holy Sword Kusanagi (草薙剣), the Holy Jewel Yasakani no magatama (八尺瓊曲玉), and the Holy Mirror Yata no kagami(八咫鏡). The sword and the mirror are kept at the Shinto shrines in Nagoya and Ise in Central Japan, and the jewel at the Kokyo Imperial Palace in Tokyo.  Other items are farther afield- not in Japan.  Since Iyo of Wa (see last post) already knows where these three are, she intends to seize them last, so as not to tip her hand prematurely.
