  10. NPCs Resources

This spreadsheet was made to speed up gameplay during damage calculations on combats and to keep track of NPC resources (END, BODY, STUN). Here is a quick set of instructions to use the file:
Sheet "NPC Resources":Type names and/or numbers for each NPC on the battlefeld.
Insert their numbers as required (STUN, BODY, END, REC). Copy/paste is OK!
As the fight goes on, type the expenses in any column and order in the respective line.
Whenever the character takes a recovery, either type anything in the black "REC" line or type "r" in the STUN or END lines.
Aid/Drain is also allowed; type them in the last three columns.

    [*]Damage sheets (Normal/Killing)
When a NPC is hit, type in their respective defenses in any of the six tables available.
    Then, ask the player if he/she wants to roll for hit locations:If so, just select "N" in the dropdown "Auto?" menu and then select the local hit in the respective menu;
If not, just select "Y" in the dropdown "Auto?" menu.

[*]Ask the player if she/he wants to roll the damage dice.
If so, just type the number of dice and select the right modifier in the respective Damage Roll table.
If needed, copy and paste (values only) BODY or STUN damages in the correspondent table (the one in which you put the NPC defenses).

    [*]NPC Resources (again):
Type in any line/column the damage taken by the NPC. You may paste something copied from the other sheets; however, if so, paste as "values only"!

  11. powersheet.pdf

This is a sheet I whipped up a few years ago for creating powers by hand, on paper. It's based on a similar sheet for creating spells in Fantasy Hero 1st edition.  It includes columns for name and base Power, base cost, Advantages, Active Cost, END Cost, Limitations, Real Cost, and Skill Roll penalty.  You can attach copies of this to your character sheet, and on the character sheet you can write the cost, name, basic effect, END cost, and a note to refer to the sheet.  Something like "12  Lighting Bolt: 8d6 Blast, 4 END; see attached sheet"

  13. Power Level

This is an initial attempt to measuse and compare power between characters (and parties). Although a very difficult task in Hero System, it might help GMs to design balanced encounters. It is more or less related to the idea behind Dungeons & Dragons' Challenge Rating.

Notice that a key aspect in the spreadsheet is the "fitting factor"; using a few combats as a reference, it seems to be it should be somewhere between 1,5 and 5.

As a guideline, encounters where the odds are over 70%-30% should be considered easy ones.

  14. The Valley of Night

The Fifth Edition version of Champions Universe first mentioned an intriguing-sounding location on CU Earth, called the Valley of Night. (The reference has since been reprinted in the 6E update to that book.) Few details about it were ever published, and there are no plans on the part of Hero Games to expand on them. However, I was inspired by that reference, and other elements from the official setting, to develop the Valley of Night for my own Champions campaign. Thinking that other gamers might find a use for them, I posted my (rather extensive) notes to the Hero Games discussion forums -- after first asking permission from Hero Games management -- where they seemed to be generally well received. The relevant discussion thread has long since passed into the obscurity of the forum archive; but this seemed to be an appropriate place to offer this material again for interested parties.

This download is a ZIP containing two files. The first is a PDF, a sort of "sourcebooklet," of most of the material I created for the Valley of Night. The second is a RTF document with additional info, mostly inspired by feedback from my fellow forumites. They describe the Valley's history, geography, unique environment and ecology, and society; more than a dozen NPCs and creatures; and numerous plots and plot seeds for using the Valley. Although inspired by official CU elements this material isn't closely tied to that setting; I designed it to be easily inserted into most superhero game campaigns. Although written with a supers game in mind, I also include notes on adapting the Valley to fantasy, pulp, modern adventure, or future sci-fi settings.

The material is somewhat bare-bones in format. It lacks character sheets for any of its original characters; instead I suggest modifications to the sheets of similar characters from Hero Games's Champions publications. The modifications are to the Fifth Edition write-ups for those characters, but should pose no significant problems to people using the 6E books they appear in. There are also no maps included -- map creation being a weakness of mine -- although all locations are described in substantial detail.

I hope you enjoy your exploration of the Valley of Night. Assuming you survive.

  17. Damage Classes Calculator

Well, I have always felt in a hard time when trying, on the fly, to figure out how many dice of damage 4 CSL, for instance, would add to a complex power. I guess this sheet is a workaround for it.

  21. Gaia's Wrath for Champions

As I read the Champions Villains trilogy, I was struck by the strong similarities in background, motivation, and personality among several of the solo villains from Volume 3, and how bringing them together would create a formidable, versatile team with a strong unifying theme. Exploring all the ways I could use them in a game, I realized they could add a lot to almost any four-color-style superhero campaign, so I thought some of my fellow Champions gamers might also be able to use the concept.

Gaia's Wrath are a group of extreme eco-terrorists, all with a nature/elemental motif, who believe the Earth's biosphere is in a war for survival with the human race. The Wrath intend to stop mankind's despoiling of the planet, by so decimating the human population that they will never again be a threat.

This upload is a ZIP containing two files. One is a RTF writing up the Gaia's Wrath team in the format from Champions Villains Vol.2: Membership; Background/History; Group Relations; Tactics; Associates, Allies, And Adversaries. That last entry also briefly describes the team's support organization, "Gaia's Web." The references in the write-up are to the official Champions Universe as the default, but can easily be changed to fit many other settings. The write-ups and character sheets of the individual members of Gaia's Wrath, and all other characters referred to, are in the Champions Villains trilogy.

The second file is a JPG of a color illustration of the entire team, which I composited from the artwork for each of the individual villains from CV 3. (I'm no artist or master of computer graphics, but I think it gets the point across.) I received permission from Jason Walters to upload both files here.

I hope you find them interesting and useful.

EDIT: I reformatted the RTF to hopefully make it easier to read and more esthetically pleasing, as well as made a couple of cosmetic touch-ups to the JPG.

  22. Comic book cover.zip

I was working on creating little frames for my villains, comic book covers, for the drawings. Basically the idea was to create an empty frame and draw the character on to the sheet of paper. Its pretty simple but it turned out nice. Adding a jpg for the image and changing the text should be simple. I thought people might like this for their own campaigns, so here it is. The format is MSWord docx. Yes, its evil, but I am a GM after all.

  23. Simplified Champions Sheet

This is a stripped down, simplified character sheet designed for new players. Its meant to have only the most basic info, without costs, modifiers, etc and show the 11+OCV roll for attack maneuvers rather than bonuses. Each section is color coded for easier reference: red for combat, green for characteristics, blue for complications, pink for movement, etc.

  25. In Service to The Throne

This is a series of documents for new Game Masters and new Players to be introduce to Hero system 6th edition.
The set includes 2 adventures designed to be played out in an evening each. Normally after the second adventure the players will have enough to start off on their own tracks and a campaign can develop.

As a game master you will need to be a little familiar with Hero system (mastery not actually required) and read each of the files titled IST - 00 X these are the prep files. The IST - 01 and IST - 02 files are the actual adventures.

Options: All of the pre-generated characters have some overlapping skills as trained rangers. Some players who are familiar with Hero will want to make their own characters. If a player makes his own characters use the "Heroic" level found on page 35 of Hero system 6th edition.

Please enjoy and if you have feed back send it to me on the boards as Ndreare.
