Bronze Age Team Build

In creating the Silver Age team of heroes for my campaign background, I took a look at the membership of the popular comic teams of the era (the JLA and The Avengers) and mixed and mingled some of their concepts to create some interesting characters. For example, I mixed Black Canary's powers and Captain America's patriotism and came up with Anthem (although, I think I stole that name from someone on the boards). I combined Hawkman's raptor motif and Thor's mythological background and got Horus. I thought it would be an interesting excercise to take the most popular teams of the Bronze Age (at least I think they are considered Bronze Age) and throw 'em in a blender and see what would result. So I pose to the Learned Panel: Pick a character/s from column A and mix and meld with a character/s from column B for my homage Bronze Age team.

Charger (Kid Flash/Storm) Speedster powered by electricity.

 

Burst (Kid Flash/Cyclops) Speedster unable to move slowly without his 'Gravitic Harness'. Without it he'd disappear over the horizon in a nanosecond.

Falcon (Banshee/Nightwing) Kidnapped from his wealthy Chinese Opera family by the Triads, manifested his voice powers at this time (age 7) killing all the enforcers in the room as well as his parents there to save him. Taken in and trained by China's infamous vigilante, the Night Owl, before striking out on his own.

Wolverine + Robin = Raised by wolves and barely civilized, he's unstoppable in combat and can scarcely be trained to use a knife and fork. Name: Feral.

 

Storm + Raven = Plane-touched mistress of the magical arts who uses her talents to create powerful weather-oriented effects. Name: Actually, I like Storm Raven.

Siren (Banshee/Wonder Girl) Street urchin/runaway granted sonic powers by the technology of Hephaestus.

 

Solar Flare (Starfire/Sunfire) Alien starchild who landed in Japan while on the run from an evil galactic empire.

NIGHTMARE: Kurt Grayson was 13 and the youngest member of an acrobatic family traveling with circus. The mob tried to muscle in on the circus when the circus owner ref they rigged the high wire to fail as his family performed the spectacular finale of there act as they where performing there act. Both his mother father and younger sister plunged to there deaths. Kurt was the only survivor as his mutant powers manifested during the terrifying plunge. Kurt discovered his ability to teleport.

He awakened dazed and confused by the sound of screaming a hundred yards from the big top in a pile of hay.

 

The circus people found him and hid him they didn’t want him taken away to static life especially with his strange powers he started out training with the rest of the troupe he wanted to know everything they could teach learning knife throwing illusion disguise and escapology as well as honing his already prestigious acrobatic abilities.

 

At the age of 16 his happy life in the circus came to an end. Whilst vesting New York one of the local hired hands turned out to be a plant for an anti mutant group sent to check into the rumors from the performance 3 years ago. He noticed Kurt and decided to test him he placed himself in seeming danger and when Kurt used his teleportation powers to save him he knew he had him. That night the group turned up in force they attacked the circus Kurt got out barely his teleportation and acrobatic skill just keeping him away from the savagery of the lynch mob but the circus its self wasn’t as lucky some of the trucks and a large part of the big top where burnt. The police arrived but no arrests where made. But Kurt knew he would have to leave his home.

 

The circus owner came to him with a letter he had received offering him a place at an elite boarding school for those with special abilities he also gave him information on a trust he had set up containing his parents life insurance etc. with these funds Kurt set him self up in the city where his parents also the home of the school by day he worked with the other students but on his off time he hunted the mob who had killed his family striking them down from the shadows in his terrifying black leather body suit with a full face holographic purple demon mask. Using his teleportation and uncanny agility to strike from unexpected quarters a master trick rider he drives a black motorbike and carries a range of throwing weapons and gizmos. now the few tabloids that will even consider his existence call him he is the NIGHTMARE.

Metallic (Colossus/Kid Flash) –In the future—or perhaps, a future--metahuman abilities are much more commonplace, but also that much more feared. It is a world where it seems just about everyone has at least some power. Unfortunately, there is very little responsibility in the use of these powers. The United States has degenerated into an urban version of the Old West, with lawlessness and vigilantism more commonplace than not. It is a dangerous time to live. Using an experimental time machine, Peter Allen’s parents sent him back to live a better life and to maybe, just maybe, become the man they know he can be.

 

Peter’s power is the ability to transform into a being of liquid metal, possessing many of the properties of the metallic elements. He can be as hard as osmium or as fluid as mercury. In his densest form he is incredibly strong and nearly invulnerable to harm. In a liquid metal state he is as difficult to hold or damage as water, and can use this form to flow under doors, into very small openings, and the like. In a low-density form he is incredibly fast, able to move many times faster than any human. He can run as fast as a sports car or leap incredible distances with ease. He can make himself incredibly reflective or as dark as night. All the properties of the metals are his to control.

 

While he understands the reasons for being sent back in time, Peter misses his parents and his home. One day he hopes to return. Perhaps he might even find a way to change the future that is coming. Toward that end he has joined the superheroes of today in the hopes of creating a better tomorrow.

I totally agree. Burst is in. Unfortunately, I already have a character named Burst in the campaign. I'm thinking Overdrive. Keep 'em coming.

FURY (WONDER GIRL/WOLVERINE) Avatar of the mythical Erinyes. Mystically empowered to pursue wrongdoers. Generally a very attractive quick brick, but as she becomes more enraged in the pursuit of wrongdoers, she gains more feral attributes; fangs, claws increased PRE, lowered COM.

 

TRILL (STARFIRE/BANSHEE) Alien female from avain race with curious vocal powers. She has flight/gliding through wings and enhanced vision good DEX. Best of all she has a multipower with ultra slots for different songs she can use: A NND sonic, an RKA against inanimate objects and a mind control song with linked EGO drain (maybe low dice, but cumulative)

Born to a gypsie, Dick Wagner was not a normal baby. He had jet black, furry skin, a tail and 3 fingers/toes on each hand/foot. Dick's family were famous acrobats in the circus. His mother was killed leaving him alone in the world. Dick was taken in by Vigilante and trained to become the fearsome Nightcrawler. When Dick reached puberty he discovered he had the ability to teleport when he was accosted by a gang of boys intent on robbing him.

Night Raven (Nightcrawler/Raven) - Born from the union of a mutant shapeshifter and a terrible demon lord, Raven Wagner was an odd child ... having deep blue skin and crimson eyes. After a short stint in the circus, she met Peter Grayson and fell in love. Now the two fight crime together and helped organize the Nightshift.

 

Steelwing (Nightwing/Colossus) - Trained circus performer Peter Grayson's life changed the day his parents were killed in the big top. It was also the night his powers (the ability to shift into ossmeum steel) activated and he met Professor Wayne (formerly the WWII hero known as Captain Night) of the Wayne Institute. Taking in the young man, Wayne taught Peter how to use his powers and how to fight crime. Calling himself Steelwing, the hero burst on the scene, reuniting with his circus sweetheart, Night Raven, and forming the Nightshift!

 

Chimera (Beast Boy/Wolverine) - Canadian born Garfield Logan found out at a young age of his mutant ability to change shape into any animal. Unfortunatly, so did a secret agency known as Department X. Kidnapping the boy, they performed odd experiments on him, inducing his skin with odd chemicals and enhancing his healing ability and shape-shifting abilities. Having enough, Gar escaped with little memory of the boy he once was and, until discovered in the Canadian wilds by John Henry McDonald and his wife, Lana. This landed him a job within the mysterious Department X and, eventually, Professor Wayne recruited him for the Nightshift.

 

Thunder (Cyborg/Thunderbird) - Victor Proudstar was always teased as a child due to his weak body. He was always the last chosen in gym and rarely played anything that people considered "fun." On one day home from school, he ran afoul of an experiment that his parents, a medicine man and a scientist, had botched. Not seeing his parents, he ran across of an evil manitou that almost killed him, but, luckily, he was saved by TITAN Labs but at the cost of most of his body. Now powerfully built into a cyborg body, he took on the name of Thunder and began to show people the err of their ways by joining the Nightshift.

 

Firebird (Starfire/Pheonix) - The alien hero Je'noriandor was taken at a young age to train with the warriors of Okreeda. There, she learned the martial ways and the philosophy about war. It was shortly after this that she was conscripted into the Gorskrullian army and battled in the Thanadoonian war. Almost at death's door, Je'n was confronted by a group of small, golden beings callen themselves the Guardians of the Flame. They offered her a chance at salvation if she would be a hero and travel to a lone planet to help the champions there. Agreeing, she became Firebird and decended to Earth to join the Nightshift.

 

Cyklops (Cyclops/Wonder Girl) - Tourist Donna Summers was vacationing in Greece when an accident befell the bus she was on. On the brink of death, she was confronted by the god Hephestus and granted the ability to channel the fire of Prometheus through her eyes. Saving the others on the bus, she called herself Cyklops and was the last member to join the Nightshift.
