Savinien
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Yeah, I'm always amused by someone correcting someone else's spelling or grammar, and there's a spelling or grammar mistake in THEIR post. It makes me chuckle. Someone posted this in a grammar community I'm in: My Grammer was a Nazi and I take offense to such ridicule.
Dr. Anomaly
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I find it difficult to explain a 2 out of 140 on the final otherwise. Out of 140 possible, someone scored 2?!?

Super Squirrel
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER There is a new Hero player in the world. And we can thank Vampire the Masquerade. Jaime: [her current GM] wants to expand my gaming experience to a new system. He wants to start a Vampire the Masquerade game. It sounded pretty emo to me. Me: Now is the perfect time to tell you about Alice's game. Jamie: Can I play a Pixie Ninja? Alice: Yes. Yes you can. Jaime: I've always wanted to play a Pixie Ninja after someone told me I couldn't in D&D. Me: You could play a flying psycic toaster if you wanted in this game system. Jamie: I don't think I want to play that but I do want to play a Pixie Ninja because I can.

I’m here to talk about one thing and one thing only. The only thing that is salient to [John] Dvorak’s legitimacy as a technology pundit: his well-documented addiction to lesbian dwarf porn. But I must warn you it is not about LDP. It is about some hack tech writer of approx 20 years telling once and for all how he deliberately writes articles to annoy the Macintosh community so they will write back and then he feigns ignorance and afterwards reverses his opinion and pisses them off again. Thus the high ratings.
Bazza
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Does anyone else find the US Embassy being built in Iraq worthy? You know it is the size of Vatican City! Calling it an "embassy" is stretching the word a lot. BAGHDAD' date=' Iraq[/url'] - The fortress-like compound rising beside the Tigris River here will be the largest of its kind in the world, the size of Vatican City, with the population of a small town, its own defense force, self-contained power and water, and a precarious perch at the heart of Iraq’s turbulent future. The new U.S. Embassy also seems as cloaked in secrecy as the ministate in Rome. The Embassy of the United States in Baghdad is currently under construction in the Green Zone of Baghdad. The compound will be comprised of 21 buildings across 104 acres, making it the largest U.S. embassy in the world. ...it is known that security will be overseen by the US Marines. The Site Has 21 Structures U.S. diplomatic employees in Iraq are to move next year to a multimillion-dollar complex that will be among the largest U.S. embassies. The facility is slated for completion June 2007. New office building: Includes classified activities New office annex: For public diplomacy staff, consular affairs and the U.S. Agency for International Development Interim office building: Designed for future use as a school General services annex: Facilities management, break areas, staff locker rooms Recreation building: Gym, exercise room, swimming pool, locker rooms, the American Club, commissary, food court, barber and beauty shop Six staff apartment buildings: Each has one bedroom apartments Residences for the chief and deputy chief of mission Marine security guard quarters Remaining buildings are dedicated to security, vehicle maintenance and facilities management, storage, utilities, and water and wastewater treatment
zornwil
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Actually, it makes sense to me. It signals an ongoing commitment, creates a landed investment not as easily walked away from for future administrations, and acknowledges the reality that security in the near-term requires extraordinary measures. Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER did they even write anything down? Yeah, she did, but it was either content-free B.S., utterly devoid of the content from the last 3 weeks of the course, or missed the point of the question entirely (which is a more advanced form of the same thing). On a mid-term, I'd've gone into a frenzy of red ink on the paper. For a final (which are almost never picked up by the students), mostly I just write the large over-the-text zero that carries my personal connotation of a response not being worth the time it takes to write said zero. Mantis
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Cancer might like this one. Next week I have an exam on a subject that's never been run before (and it shows). It's also closed-book. Normally you can use previous exam papers as guides to what will be asked, and how much each topic will be worth so you can slant your study accordingly, but for this we couldn't do that. We've all been madly trying to memorise the entire textbook. Then the lecturers came up with a revision exam for us to look at, so we thought we had something to go on. But no. In the last revision lecture, we were told: "Everyone (lecturers) thought of questions to ask in the exam and drew it out of a hat. What ever questions were pulled out are going to be in the exam. The questions that weren't were put into the revision exam" Well, that helps!

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Yeah, you can try meta-gaming that. Reduce the course to the important core topics. Check off the ones on the revision exam. Engrave the rest on the inside of your skull. Sort of a big-risk strategy, though.

Assuming the test is not poorly written it should be a more than usual measurement of how well you learned the topic, rather than how well you take tests. And we are assuming the test will be poorly written based on our experience with the tutorials and assignments
Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I've heard from three people now that grades have been turned in. Two of them are reasonable; they're a couple of folks who suffered blowouts on the final and so their course grade was a couple of notches below what it was before the final exam. In any course, disappointments like that are bound to happen, and I don't begrudge anyone asking questions when that occurs. The third is more than reasonable; he sent a begging note immediately after the exam asking me not to flunk him. My last reply noted that he'd done decently on the final and he'd earned his C+ for the course quite fairly. (His first exam had been catastrophic, but he'd done all the work and his subsequent scores showed monotonic improvement.)
