Re: More space news!

How does the motion of the pair of plates rotate the Casimir effect's force 90 degress from one that pushed the plates together, to one that pushes the plates (in unison) in a certain direction?

Re: More space news!

Not exactly space, but close enough IMO.

Want to own a piece of history, like, say, one of the tail rudders from an SR-71 Blackbird? Got a million dollars?

Holy ****.

I really can't think of anything else to write. I really hope this comes through.

I hope it doesn't.

I really don't want our first people living permanently on Mars to be because of a Big Brother-style "Reality Show". :P

I agree. And I wouldn't want to be part of a Mars mission if I had to be on TV all the time.

Re: More space news!

I would think that to do any kind of 'Reality' TV show would take sending, housing, and supplying a *lot* of people. Not just the 'contestants', but all the cameramen, gaffers, best boys, etc., etc., etc., that not only needed, but likely also required by union contracts. Oh, and the host.

And what happens when someone gets voted off the planet? "Sorry, Bob, but it's the airlock for you!" o.0

Doctor Who did this one a few seasons back.

Re: More space news!

I guess it'd be nice to try to establish a permanent manned station on Mars. But I'd be even more interested in seeing a permanent manned station in (relatively) deep space, say, 1 light year away, deep in the Oort cloud. It would be a sterner test of our ability to create a long-term self-sustaining environment in the most difficult possible conditions(no planet to draw resources from), to successfully transit a near-interstellar distance with human passengers, and to keep in contact/monitor micro-societal changes over time.

1 light Year?

You know you can do it with just 1 Light Minute, not send anything up and don't have to wait that long for the daily reports?
